Sweeping anti-terror laws and taking all the guns away from poor people (what's it going to cost to get psych evals and training like this? What's the licensing fee? How many guns will this take away from well off white people?)
"Oh shit, we accidentally won control of all levels of government and have no more excuses for doing nothing, quick, think of an idea that will galvanize the republican base in 2022!"
its almost like they want to lose the senate and congress so that they can go back to being opposition :thinkin-lenin:
It will never happen, if it some how gets enough support to make it a law(it won't) it would be instantly challenged for being unconstitutional and the courts are packed all the way up with republican political appointees. The worst effect this act will have is causing the price of guns and ammo to sky rocket for a while, but that happens during the first term of every democrat so meh.
bet this won't be an easy layup for a conservative SCOTUS
Getting mad at democrats for pretending that they're going to try to do gun control is a waste of energy. Democrats aren't going to enact shit. I know it, you know it
You can replace gun control in that sentence with a free space on a bingo card and it's still accurate.
I mean, Democrats very clearly COULD enact shit if they wanted to, they just almost never do. This law really screws over poor people and minorities so I could see this getting unanimous approval amongst Democrats and getting passed in 15 minutes
And immediately gets incinerated by the reactionaries filling every judicial seat
This shit was being posted all over /r/liberalgunowners and the consensus is that it will never make it out of committee. The House has a slim enough majority as it is and Democrats' hold on power in the Senate is incredibly fragile
It also requires 800 dollar insurance fees and the license must be renewed every 5 years.
Are you fucking kidding me they're trying to charge people for owning guns? This is so stupid I have to wonder if it's deliberate.
Also if you have had any problems mentally you can't have one.
Fuck the democrats.
So my paranoia that ever getting my mental health issues clinically diagnosed and on record might actually save me at some point in the future? :agony-turbo:
defining a military style weapon:
(B) a semiautomatic rifle that has an ability to accept a detachable magazine and has at least 2 of—
“(i) a folding or telescoping stock;
“(ii) a pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon;
“(iii) a bayonet mount;
“(iv) a flash suppressor or threaded barrel designed to accommodate a flash suppressor; and
“(v) a grenade launcher;
“(v) a grenade launcher;
this one is ironically especially bs, a grenade launcher is basically a tube
damn really? i don't know much about guns but i know that the laws are always asinine around them. here i was thinking, hey maybe i can't have a rifle with a folding stock or a pistol grip, but at least they allow you to have 1 (one) grenade launcher.
That's basically every gun control law's definition of an assault rifle in the past 40 years. That's actually more permissive than NY/NJ's laws, and probably a few other states.
Complete shit, of course, but also not beyond the usual bounds of idiocy that creeps into these bills.
I think it refers to the ability to fit and fire rifle grenades , which is just them copy and pasting the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban.
Not to play this card but this is clearly unconstitutional, especially with a conservative neo-Scalia court that will stick to the letter of Heller. Love to see Dems waste time on something that will piss people off and ultimately be worthless. :deeper-sadness:
