Lmao dude it's not a sleeping tablet, it's just a way to relax your mind.

There's nothing innately special about chamomile other than it's a nice flavour and it's a hot drink that doesn't have any caffeine in it, so you can slowly sip it before bedtime as part of an evening chill out ritual

Lmao I just noticed the "I used 4 bags at once" part, something about someone trying to OD on camomile is extremely funny to me.

lol definitely a bad habit of mine after having spent a few years addicted to opiates. trying to od is basically my modus operandi at this point when it comes to trying new substances

Surprised about kava considering that it's psychoactive and has a mechanism similar to alcohol's.

I think most sleep aids are most effective if you actually try to go to sleep. That means putting on your jammies, getting into bed, turning off the light, and putting on a podcast or audiobook on low volume. Chamomile specifically usually just makes me chilled out, not sleepy.

how much are you taking? It's active at 100MICROgrams and I usually see it sold in doses of 50 to 100 times that.

Idk about chamomile but valerian root will hit you like a Xanax if you take it like it's real medicine. Whatever you steep in a cup of tea is going to be fairly weak. You're looking for a concentrated extract or tincture you can eyedropper into a drink. I have found it in stores with very large vitamin sections (expensive) and in little Russian groceries (cheap).

That said, if you take it this way you do need to treat it like real medicine. It can be addictive. There are side effects (I wake up with headaches f I go ham.) There are drug interactions. Of course, dosages aren't regulated in the USA. I never had capsules that seemed to work. I figure the tinctures must stronger or easier to absorb.

same for me on the melotonin.

it's too bad that all the stuff proven to work is illegal. i guess we can't have people feeling good without permission

This is one of the biggest arguments for the legalization of all commonly used street drugs. Having them illegal only causes harm by putting them into the hands of the totally unregulated and dangerous black market.

Heroin being the biggest example in that the black market is the reason it keeps getting laced with fentanyl, but also smaller things like the inconsistency in marijuana strains. People are gonna smoke weed and do other drugs, might as well make sure it's as safe and consistent as possible.

Yeah you can find it in supplement sections at the store: The antioxidants and vitamins in papaya also prevent chronic inflammation. The choline content, for instance, helps to strengthen memory pathways, and muscle development. It is also important for cell membrane integrity, nerve impulse transmission, fat absorption (and therefore fat-soluble vitamins absorption as well), and for good sleep.

thanks, i'll try it out. Trying to find something to replace taking diphenhydramine every night. So far it's been the only otc thing to work, but i've read it's very bad for you long term.

yeah there's definitely merit to the idea that i fucked myself on this one by starting to use it. Though there are so many other dumb things i've done like getting addicted to opiates and using marijuana as a teenager, it'd be impossible to know for sure.

I swear by melatonin! But it only works if I take a tiny amount, like literally 1/2 of a 5mg pill. Counterintuitive dose strategy

Used it many times and yes it does work. It's not Xanax though

If you get some nice fresh loose leaf chamomile that's flowers only it's got a more noticeable effect than your run of the mill celestial seasonings tea bags from my experience

The blends tend to be really low quality, buy some chamomile and valerian root from somewhere like Fronteir Co-op and blend them yourself. Some other good herbs for relaxation are lemon balm, lavendar, and hops. They really do work, it's just pretty subtle. It almost pre-disposes you to sleep and relaxation, but won't force you into it like an ambien or a benzo.

Yeah? I'll look into that. Makes sense that the quality ain't too great considering this isn't medicine and isn't subjected to any regulation most likely.

yeah, I wish herbal medicine was taken more seriously and incorporated along with existing healthcare practices with regulations and proper education and training. That sort of thing kind of exists right now with small independent herbalist schools but it's very marginal, underfunded, and understudied. One other reason we need to free medical research from researching only what is profitable.

iirc supplements are regulated fairly well in Canada, so I buy Canadian brands when possible. The US being an ancap hellworld, you're at the mercy of third-party review organizations. Look for companies that hire third-party analysis of their products; They're usually quite proud about it on the label because they fucking paid for it.
