the PPB twitter account is truly a marvel. they're the ones who perpetuated the quikrete milkshakes rumor last year with NO evidence. they say they're going to declare protests as riots in advance of the protest beginning on "rumors of explosives," it's a really irresponsible emergency services outlet.

It's the obvious outcome of having one of the most compromised and openly racist/fascist police forces in the country. It's actually kind of impressive how often Portland comes up if you are doing research about fascist and white supremacist movements in the US.

Remember this was the state whose founders were so racist they were against slavery because they wanted it to be illegal for black people to even exist in the state.

Yeah I know it's pretty much the default here but there are degrees of shittiness between departments. And this isn't a some cops are good post AT ALL just saying the ones in the PNW are a very especially bad subsection of an already bad institution.

The whining is the point. And anyways more of this stuff against them means they can whine more and get on Fox News about the "dangerous escalation from far left antifa", they think this will help their side of things and perhaps bring federal help or get liberals to agree that the protestors are all violent terrorists and that they need to give them back their riot weaponry. It's about creating a narrative that it's the forces of good law and order (cops) against the violent forces or destruction and disorder (the protestors who for the most part just want the police to stop brutalizing black people and want some sort of reformation). And that's the point really, obfuscating the actual reason these protestors started in favor of turning it into another culture war item of whether you're for police or protestors. Thus protecting the current status quo by removing the original reason from the conversation.

Maybe it's made up? Your average demonstrator doesn't want to use these tactics, but that's how they want to paint everyone.

I think if the hole is big enough, there's no way some fix-a-flat is going to block the puncture. These rebar rods look pretty thick, and as soon as they rip out of the tire those things are probably done for. Good points on the welding though. Gotta use the right tool for the job. Tubes are also an interesting thing to try. They sell various kinds of plumbing pipe at hardware stores, or you could literally rip it out of the walls as the empire continues crumbling.

solid core caltrops get pushed out by the air pressure alone. there's a decent chance hollow core would stay embedded because the forces involved are so much lower. certainly, they're likely to stay in long enough for the tire to significantly deflate.

The mythbusters did an episode on "Spy car" stuff, and when I watched it years ago I noted it down because I thought it'd come in handy

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zAMjkR1lrI

They made them out of hollow tubing, so the air flows out when the caltrop is in the tire and even if it flies out, the air will continue to leak. Only thing needed should be a decent vise and a spot welder, among other welding tools.

This is yet another reason why we need a DIY community. Any way we can make this happen?

Great way to get infiltrated quickly. Mass dissemination of easy to read infographics is the best. Hard to find the source and impossible to silence. Memeify insurgency tactics

I do like your idea, but I also still think a dedicated DIY community would at least be great for sharing and learning basic skills for things like welding, 3D printing, electronics, etc. There is a lot of useful general info that can't be shared easily with just infographics.

I think that it's easy to build a spot welder and a thing to bend nails to make these. But be careful they seem harmless but I think people are heavily persecuted for having these.

Fuck yeah rebar caltrops. Are these hard to make? Just wondering how much effort someone put into making these. Seems hard to pull off.

    • GrouchyGrouse [he/him]

Actually it looks pretty easy. Rebar is usually pretty easy to bend, especially if you have a blowtorch, which you would need to weld them together. A little heat to fuck the tempering and you can bend it with a vice and a hammer.

      • Downanotherday [he/him]
        ·

You don’t even need to heat it. #5 or 6 (1/2 - 5/8 inch)rebar fabricated in the manner shown in this pictures would fuck up a tire good.

You can easily bend it 45 degrees with a good vice and piece of pipe.

Oh fuck I forgot about the pipe trick, and that's what we use at work to tighten this big ass vice with a spoked wheel. Instant leverage boost, I love it!

You don’t even really need a vice or pipe.

My concrete kids forgot to bring fucking every tool to a site. I just lifted a skid steer bucket off the the ground, put the rebar in between the ground/bucket and used the length of rebar as leverage.

You would waste a bunch of material building them this way. But that shit is pretty much free at every construction site after hours.

Probably not. A diagonal cut would be all the "sharpening" that would be necessary, but even that it might not actually be necessary. The weight of the vehicle is probably enough to pop the tire under the stress.
