For some reason, animation in "the west" is seen as something exclusively for children, so obviously if we want to sell something to 12+ plus crowds, it has to be live action.

Something about the framerate of them is off, or maybe not even that, maybe its just missing frames of scenes so it feels choppy. I can't tell if it's better to watch sober or not

well something makes them feel like I'm opening a cognitohazard, like no one was supposed to see this it was just filler for netflix to put between the Office

Every time something gets made I just assume it's some sort of tax grift or laundering money really. Like if we had the financial record we'd see some ceo or company is making a lot in gov tax refund or something.

Or it's just an incompetent executive looking to cash in on nostalgia and save themselves finding a cool new thing. No reason to assume malice when incompetence and/or laziness is a perfectly adequate explanation

Maybe it's just that I remember :parenti: saying something like we need to assume the worst in the rich because they can and do scheme to their benefit. Labeling it as just incompetency leaves a lot of things unquestioned you know?

Yeah but if you want to launder money and avoid taxes while being rich you would just get your accountant to do it. schemes are quite hard

True guess I'm using launder in a more vague sense. With the tax laws heavily in their favor I can see them making shit and writing it off as a tax write off or collecting a lot of money from the government through this somehow.

Surely this children’s television show that was a product of the expansion of kids cartoons into the hands of creative individuals with a vision in the 1990s will translate perfectly when it’s taken out of the medium that made it good and also has already been soullessly copied and pasted once before.

90s kids have serious income now and the kids will love this soulless corporate product!

As young adults are realizing how badly their material conditions are degrading in the US, they cope by getting nostalgic for an earlier time in their lives when they didn't have to worry about material conditions i.e. childhood. I don't judge, I do it myself. It's an opportunity to let people know why their life sucks.

Yup, that and the fact that the ballooning cost of entertainment means that executives are increasingly more likely to just revive old franchises rather than risk trying anything new

Implicit to all of these remakes is companies now think Millennials have enough money to be worth marketing nostalgia to. We made it! It's like how every Ford commercial has some 60s song in it.

So did the suites just PRETEND that Sheera wasn’t a major success and that you can do bright colorful fun and get the young demographic without making it into a dark sex romp?

Seriously, also I I just looked it up the fucking writer for Juno created this, so like maybe it won’t be that bad?

But then again they describe bubbles as “ still sparkling as an adult, but her charming exterior belies an unexpected toughness and wit. She’s initially more interested in recapturing her fame than saving the world, but she just might surprise us and herself.” So like I’m bracing for shit

That was because they did the meme path. Modern kids animation seems to have 2 paths: heartfelt genuine stuff (gravity falls, sheera, Kippo, Amphibia, lady bug, Craig or the creek) and meme path (teen titans go, thunder cats)
