"The leaflets reportedly found at the site warned of the “cleansing” of brothels, “degenerate homosexuals”, thieves and informants, and declared “Long Live Marxism-Leninism-Maoism, principally Maoism.”"

wtf is with these psychos?? Would love some Shining Path info because this is not a great look

I'm not a big fan of Shining Path, but this really does seem like an op. The leaflets are a dead give away.

Shit, I'm not convinced that Shining Path weren't an op to begin with.

I doubt they were an op. When they make the news nowadays, it’s an op.

I’ve heard stories of modern shining path offshoots that survive by robbing busses and the occasional hikers; but they just spout off some shit about Maoism and go back into the jungle. I don’t think they have the infrastructure to print pamphlets tbh....

Plus the US supported ultra-sectarian Maoists whenever they were useful, like UNITA and the Khmer Rouge.

I don't think the CIA had to do anything to discredit them more than they did themselves. Some of their worst shit was never denied and instead openly acknowledged by the leadership

Could be. But even if it weren't they were just a vehicle for Guzman to stroke his massive ego.

Okay, let's just be sure we spread the incriminating evidence all across the murder scene.

Remember how CIA shenanigans look different in 2021. The cia is woke now. That’s very important to recognize when analyzing where they may be involved in election interference by putting groups against each other and drumming up condemnation for the left from the international community of globe emoji psychos

To add to this, Castillo is homophobic (so is Fujimori of course) and this is what the woke cia can weaponize about him

In other words, what would Neera tanden do..... if she were running the cia... talk about toxic masculinity and the Castillo bros versus girl boss Keiko

How about Evo literally starting the Amazon forest fire before he got coupd?

There were some very concerned Virginia based twitter accounts about the Amazon in October 2019

While SL were socially-regressive mass moralists, they never did anything like this. They didn’t drop leaflets, they didn’t participate in electoralism at all, and their worst massacres were retaliatory excesses at the height of a brutal civil war.

    This is an op.

95% chance the cia aided and abetted this. Or Keiko did it herself. Actually, I’ll up it to 98% considering how much of a boon this will be for her electorally

Pedro should try to get out in front of this op (and it's for sure an op) and just say that as a former Rondero he has experience combating Senderosos and that he'll bring these people to justice as president. This is such a dirty play it's insane

he did, and this whole thing is incredibly obvious that its an op. They kill those people and leave a warning not to vote for Fujmori in a district that only has 2,500 voters and that went over 65% to Castillo in the 1st round? lol

Thanks. Weird his account isn't verified and Keiko's is. Translation of his tweet for non spanish speakers: "My solidarity with the families of the 18 victims of the cowardly attack in Pichari, VRAEM. I forcefully condemn this attempted terrorism and urge the justice to apply the full weight of the law. We won't tolerate any act of violence."

"In our government we will raise the budget for the police investigation to determine the true cause of these attempts."

Also noticed that somebody in the replies posted about a similar attack just before the 2016 election and many commenters seem to be aware that its probably an op.

Of all the revolutionary movements (I don't include the Khmer Rouge, for the record, because those bastards can all rot in fucking hell) the one that I give the hardest side-eye to is the Shining Path. That said, the right wing has used or directly funded fringe movements as a way of discrediting the left and that is a tactic that is older than the Cold War. Shit is as old as Haystreet.

These people nailed stray dogs to telephone poles with signs of Deng's name on them in like the 80s, this is very on brand with their usual literal terrorist tactics.

I think some Maoism is less terrorism centered but in general it feels extremely weird, I havent read much "Maoist" literature(Mao is not Maoism ofc) but the vibes I have gotten are really strange, there are Maoists in Scandinavia arguing for a Peoples Protracted War, a strategy that explicitly is built on a large rural population that is separated from urban population, which absolutely does not exist in Scandinavia.

You try hiding your guerillas out in some Swedish small town and they would call the cops instantly for disturbing them, they are in no way more revolutionary than the urban working class, its fucking weird.

Lmao surprised they're still trying when German Maoists failed thoroughly in the 70's at doing the exact same thing except they actually had quite some members.

I've heard that some Republican forces during The Troubles attempted to use these kinds of strategies too which is like the only situation I can imagine it working, when there is a new division to separate the countryside from urban centers that isnt peasantry vs bourgeoise.

I can understand Irish Maoists since Ireland has always had a unique dynamic with agriculture. Mostly agricultural workers but not peasants like the rest of Europe, more like an island of serfs, most of whom never got given a plot latter like Kulaks in Russia. Ended up creating a population that was aware of class and hated the men of property for a LONG time. There was not the same struggle with peasants and rural petite bourgeoise as in other places

There was a famous poll in which a shockingly large percentage of Germans said they would shelter a terrorist on the run from the police. I wouldn't say they failed thoroughly, in fact they ran up success after success. They just didn't diversify and grow, and the founders got into petty spats with each other over who was in charge.
