I didn’t see the speech but seeing a lot of criticism about it. What’s the criticism for? He didn’t reverse his policy, right? That seems like a win to me.
We’re still pulling out.
Liberals are mad because they think we were protecting women’s rights as we bombed them.
Conservatives are mad because this makes us look weak.
Communists are happy, but scared because we know the war effort’s getting moved to some other country.
getting moved to some other country.
It's South America, isn't it? :(
African Union is way stronger than it was 20 years ago.
Not a chance in hell they let an American invasion happen.
Biden rattled off number of countries where the US is active in "counter-terrorism" ops including some in Africa. So yeah, the AU isn't doing shit to stop the US.
100% this.
I was barely drinking age when the bombs dropped. I'm middle-aged now. I'd be lying if I said, I'm not slightly happy and somewhat relieved this nightmare is over.
But now I'm scared shitless of the next conflict.
I was shitting my diaper when the bombs dropped and am drinking now.
He said it wasn't in "national security interests" to remain in Afghanistan *gasp.
Its funny because that's something that seemed to be a sticking point for some of the talking heads.
Here's a link to the speech (18 min) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTbAyPIwctY
I hate to give him the W, but the world is a better place even if he accidentally did it in a way that there was minimal bloodshed in the talibans advance
was actually very grown up.. imo

Personally I think it's a little weird that he'd say that "the buck stops with me," now, but last week he was saying that he had to abide by the general draw down plans made in the Trump Admin, which I'd say is a passing of the buck.
I think that's how we'll see liberal interventionists cope. Biden will be simultaneously credited as the president who closed this exhausting and sordid chapter of American history, but he only did it because "Drumpf drew down troops in Afghanistan will trying to make peace with the Taliban on 9/11 at Camp David!"
