I used to be really into collecting games, but when it came time to move out I realized I had way too much stuff lol. I also didn't even want to play half the shit that I have, so I got rid of a lot of it. I probably buy a couple games a year now, but if it's a console game I'd much prefer it to be a physical copy

I'm sure that I'm in the minority here, but for JRPGs in particular I think I'll always want a physical copy. Last year I bought 13 Sentinels, SMT Nocturne, and SMT V. I wish physical copies for PS2 era games weren't so ridiculously expensive, cause there are a lot of hidden gems I never played. I can emulate them, but I want the cool box too 😞

physical is nice but an advantage of non-physical is you might not be paying for it

the amount of things ive read or watched or played that would simply be impossible if i stuck to physical copies is unreal

just try getting a physical copy of the single translation of The Life of St. Andrew the Fool outside a very major metropolitan library

I stopped buying physical media when the amount of books I had started costing more to move than everything else combined.

I kickstarted the Trogdor board game years ago and still haven't found someone that will play with me :(

Digital seems more and more appealing since you always have to contend with failing hardware to play it on. My ps2 tries it's best to play some games but sometimes it's just like dying laser scanner noises :yea:

emulate instead, then you get to play at a higher resolution. it really makes ps2 and gamecube games look so good.

        Seconded.

A Mediatek S905x4 TV box for $50 running EmuElec can handle almost anything.

It is not too bad. I just like having a small device that plugs into my living room TV without fans that can play games and stream movies.

makes sense. id thought about making a Pi setup of some kind, but a lot of what i emulate requires too much power now. i like my upscaled PS2 and GC games, and ive started emulating PS3 now that i have a better video card

The next gen Mediatek processors for TV boxes based off the Dimensity phone SOCs will be coming later this year. So if you want to wait you can.

The 2.5mhz+ ARM Cores combined with the Mali G77/G78's GPUs - around a NV 1050 TI to NV 1060 in performance - should be enough for most PS3 emulation.

Should be gettable for under $100 by next Xmas if the chip shortgages work themselves out somehow.

If you have a fat PS2 you can slap a hard drive in there and load everything off that instead.

Nope. A few years ago I got rid of my entire media collection and cut the cord on cable. I have a few things I've kept for collector purposes (Halo Games, Myst, etc.) but the only thing I want physical copies of for anything at this point is books.

I agree with everyone about the problems inherent to digital storefronts under capitalism, but that's what we have piracy for.

I'd imagine you can burn an iso to a CD and buy an empty box online. Maybe even just buy a blank reproduction case and have the cover printed at a print shop.

I got a cover print of a game I got used from GameStop (in one of those shitty replacement cases GameStop uses) and it turned out pretty good (well, I think I didn't quite choose the right cardstock, but it works). They even folded it for me.

I like physical cos i can keep my media and not rely on an online service that gets shut down. But saying this its basically a solution to a problem that capitalism created and I'd rather reduce the amount of unncessary plastic used in my pointless media consumption.

I used to have a pretty extensive game collection; nothing terribly rare, but I was somewhat proud of the stuff I'd collected for my XBox, PS2, Gamecube, etc.

Over time, they just took up a shitload of room and I never played them, so I ended up selling everything. I might make an exception for some older PC games that had unique packaging, etc, but for the most part, I don't really care anymore. What with emulation and all, those same old console games can now be downloaded and played for free, so there was no real incentive to keep them.

I pretty much did the same thing. If I buy games now, it's stuff I'm super interested in (like JRPGs) and even then I'm picky. I saved games from my two favorite franchises and one or two stand alone games, but that's it. It's much better

Piracy broke me of the need for physical copies. I can always steal stuff again if something happens to it.

Plus, I've had to rebuy at least one game because scratches made the game disk unplayable. Significantly less danger of that happening with digital copies lol

I make fightsticks sometimes just because I do want something physical and chunky that I can put stickers all over. All the games I play now are digital or emulated.

I own a few physical games, but they're entirely decorative and I don't play them. Just a few games that are important to me, like I've got an Earthbound cartridge, some Genesis and Saturn games, some Gameboy, a couple of rarer neogeo games, a few PS1 and 2 titles. I have a wonderswan too that just sits around. I have a couple of controllers for consoles I don't have too.

I've been thinking about gutting the insides of a Dreamcast, putting in some compact PC parts and making it into a little media station full of movies and games. Put some USB ports on the front for controllers, maybe connect it to a projector. Wanted to do that for a while.

I like to display stuff in my home. I have a need to put lights and stuff everywhere.

Hardware good, software bad. I have a bunch of consoles and pirate everything I can. Flash carts, CFW, etc rock.

This may make me sound like the world’s silliest doomsday prepper, but I specifically got the PS5 with a disk drive with the possible upcoming collapse of society/America and the idea that I might not always have consistent internet access. Although literally the only game I’ve bought for it is Demons Souls. I do have a good number of physical PS4 games though.

Was that a silly reason? Probably. But oh well

I mean it depends on whether you have a plan for providing your own electricity. And if you want to use that limited resource on replaying Demon Souls.

I was picturing a medium collapse world, like a “you have electricity for some hours each day, but internet is even spottier” situation? This was more for the civil-war-US-basically-looks-like-Syria situation than the “climate change destroying most life on earth” situation

I prefer the physical copies because the short history of digital stores shows things can just go away.

But also I made a spreadsheet of my game collection and I've got too much shit, mostly ps2. I rarely buy games anymore so its like 75% ps2/3, 10%xbox/360, 5%wii/gamecube/ds, then like 5% ps4/switch.

I mostly like the old hardware though so I'd never play the games just emulated.
