      You’re right that communism is never coming to America with it’s current material conditions. The heart of empire very likely needs to collapse first. Anyone not in poverty is too separated from the realities of American imperialism.

      For the sake of working people and families in America, I hope it’s not a century of humiliation, but the American ego needs to be shattered. The culture is far too proud of its violence, privilege, and ignorance.

        A period of stagnation would help as well. Just economic growth slowing down for a long period of time while other countries surpass the US could possibly wake it up slowly, but that never really happened to the UK. The US may indeed be too far gone.

          Stagnation might do it. I hadn’t considered that as a possibility since that seems more likely to result in an overt fascist gaining power than an expedited collapse / balkanization.

          Off the top of my head, we have historical precedent for that with Carter’s shit economy setting the stage for Reaganism.

          If there’s a way that Americans can get a firm reality check without the majority of them turning into blood suckers for a while, I think we’d all prefer that. I’m not sure how to deprogram chauvinism that runs as deep as it does in Americans.

            Stagnation wouldn't really be enough. You'd need major decline in both economic power and state power. The US state is WAY too powerful for anything resembling a revolution to take place, even if the population was sympathetic to communism.
