      My understanding is that Alberta’s tar sands are among the most adulterated oil produced. But I don’t think Venezuela has the means to refine oil in-house, which is why they’ve historically done business with Iran (they both have oil, but Iran has the ability to refine it).

      Maybe the increased energy usage to transport unrefined oil really does make the difference. But if it doesn’t, I don’t see how Canadian oil could be less harmful

        Tar sands oil is pretty dirty yeah, and also Canada doesn't have much refining capacity either - it's an Albertan succdem talking point to move more of that process in-house.

            Its why there was the hullabaloo about the oil pipelines a few years back.

            Its purpose was to transport tar sands oil from Canada down through the USA to refineries.
