the bill would finally get rid of Daylight Savings Time. everyone was on board, and then the Democrats just didn't do anything about it.
Motherfucker I thought they actually did it, I really thought we weren’t switching the clocks back this year. Fuck! Im genuinely so upset by this, I just want permanent summer time so bad
that was my reaction earlier today when I realized, haha. which is why I angerposted this
Two days later, BuzzFeed News reported that many senators were not aware that a request had been made for the bill to pass via unanimous consent and were not ready to raise an objection. Rubio's office had notified every other senator's office of the request; however, it is a frequent occurrence for legislative staff to "vet the request" themselves to "decide if an issue is too benign or obviously doomed to bother their boss with". BuzzFeed identified Tom Cotton (R‑AR) as a senator who, according to a member of his staff, was vehemently opposed to the bill and would have objected to its passage had he been informed of it
what are we paying these people for?
if that doesn't perfectly summarize our "democracy", idk what does.
We need whole process democracy!! :xi-vote:
the next time someone criticizes China, I need to remember to pull this shit out.
like, boo China all you want. I've seen what you call "democracy".
:walter-shock: politicians when they accidentally agree on something besides funding police and the military
ah. that does make sense; we can't actually be getting things done now, huh?
Its just sort of a joke that the House wouldn't even touch the bill to vote it down.
Like, I get supporting it. I get not supporting it. I am really sick of a bicameral legislation that can just sit on its thumbs and spin, rather than do even the most minimal act of voting on legislation between chambers.
Good, permanent summer time would be horrible. If we want to get rid of DST, we need to get rid of it properly by making non-summer time permanent.
agree to disagree, I suppose. I would much rather have the sun rise at 7 and set at 5 than rise at 6 and set at 4.
I don't know how you plan on changing the Earth's axial tilt to accomplish that, but you can go ahead and try if you really want.
DST doesn't control how long the sun is out. Changing it won't give you any extra sunlight.
Do you not understand people working day shifts at set hours and that those hours don't change with the clocks
Oh okay that’s easy, I’ll just change the open hours of every business and school in the country, that’s super simple, way easier than hitting the “shift everything an hour” button
Yes but I can’t change when work hours are, businesses are open, or people want to do things. And I’d rather have more sunlight after work.
It does mean that, from our perspective, daylight appears to extend later in the day, though? That's the point?
The extra sunlight comes from the time the sun is up but you're sleeping. It's there for the experiencing.
Yes, I'm aware. But I'd like to come out of work and not have 15 minutes of sunlight left, and that's not something that comes down to my own choices
Yeah but the clocks control when I do my activities more than the sun does, and I want that sunlight to be after I get off work
Yeah but the clocks control when I do my activities more than the sun does
:marx-joker: hmm i wonder why that is
I want that sunlight to be after I get off work
i sleep through the day and work at night so I forgot this was a problem for people tbh :biblically-accurate-kitty:
For sure but until we can dismantle capitalism can I please not leave work in the dark
Go to sleep earlier, get up earlier. Relative to the sun those would actually be at the same time anyway. Yes capitalism affects when you can do such things based on work schedule, but that's what needs to change, not the clocks.

Yeah let's just hit the "change capitalism" button, because that's so much easier
:jesse-wtf:
I want you guys to pass this shit so we can get railroaded into doing the same thing because we have terminal little brother syndrome and just do whatever you do.
same. im not looking forward to it being pitch black by 5pm again :ohnoes:
Yeah I love when the sun sets at 4 fucking pm for months and I get to literally never see sunlight between November and March.
They'd be doing the only thing worse than getting rid of Daylight Savings Time - they'd be making DST permanent. Love to be trying to get my kids to go to sleep at 9:00 while the sun is still out.
It’s already like that though. This would make it so it’s not dark when I leave work at 4pm.
plus making the timezone map look even more disgusting, timezones should be based on longitude only and be immutable
Eh, I can definitely understand stretching the borders in particular places, like if only a small area would get put in a different time zone than the country it’s a part of.
I'm moving to China so I never have to deal with a timezone or DST ever again
hssssssssssssssssssss
THE SUN IS THE ENEMY, WE MUST KILL THE SUN AND LIVE IN ETERNAL DARKNESS
Humanity was never meant to see the sun
That's why it kills us with radiation and bees and two scoops of raisins in every box
Do you mean you like the summer time adjustment or you like changing the clocks twice a year?
What I meant was do you like how summer time is, or do you like that we switch back and forth? Because the bill the post is about would keep us on summer time permanently.
Time zones were invented by capitalist train companies to trick people into going to work on time
I know there are arguments against it but I'm bummed, not having a satanically early sunset during late fall and winter would help make my seasonal depression way more manageable. Morning person tyranny strikes again :owl-pissed:
