The contradictions occurring between the West's response and reaction to COVID and the constant propaganda of saying how bad zero COVID China is VS suddenly pointing fingers at China for allowing cases to happen has to be doing something to anyone capable of an amount of recollection and critical thinking, right?

Like I cannot imagine people aren't seeing this bullshit

insert Parenti quote about how western propaganda during the cold war could turn any information about the soviet union into hostile evidence

This is assuming the person is not so completely beat down and exhausted from being worked to death that they don’t have time and energy to philosophize

China just doesn’t really trust the new mRNA tech tbh. They have their own mRNA vaccine that doesn’t get approve yet. But they approve paxlovid so China doesn’t accept western vaccine is BS. They just hesitant on the mRNA and the west vaccine generally more expensive

If you don't speak Chinese, then you can't report on things that occur in China and are reported by Chinese-speaking sources - you can only repeat what you've heard other people say with whatever vibes-based tweaks come to your head.

Of course, nat sec reporting is almost all vibes based, so that doesn't really matter to them.

One of my friends talked to me about China recently, bringing up another friends very negative opinions of China, primarily the Uyghur situation. Its funny because they are completely non connected to the news cycle themselves and I did my best to tell them to just research zenz. I guess it relates bc I told them that the primary "researcher" behind this supposed genocide doesn't even speak Chinese and he literally just couldn't be fucked to look more into it.

The whole thing that sparked this Convo was him dating someone who lived in China previously and feeling like western media wasn't fair based on that interaction. Its hard guys. Somehow everyone knows to doubt the west in retrospect but can't take that idea and turn into scepticism about current western spread atrocities

These are the people who attend Shen-Yun 3-4 times a year pretending that it's not a bunch of religious weirdos slowly walking across stage while free-to-use graphics are played on an overhead projector in order to Own The Communists while the Falun Gong is harvesting their data.

Some of these people are at most three years away from going full "It's not even a real language, it's just chicken-scratch and funny noises."

It would be funny to see them try that, what is the rationale when confronted with the fact Chinese goes back at least 5000 years. 99% of the people couldn't possible understand Middle English today and Modern English is only ~500 years old.

what is the rationale when confronted with the fact Chinese goes back at least 5000 years

        Some combination of:

        • "5000-year-old chicken scratch is still chicken scratch 🤣🤣🤣"
        • "Listen, any eight-year-old Anglo can just about get the gist of Chaucer. If you can't, maybe you need to go back to school"
        • "The purported ancientness of Chinese culture is a CCP hoax", possibly embellished by something like "Well, since Taiwan is the historic homeland of the Chinese people, and since none of the records originating on Taiwan are that old..."

its hard to compare the two. "Chinese" is more of a language family than a language, even within Mandarin there are many dialects. it wasnt until the 1900s when the Qing dynasty attempted to standardize an official "Chinese language". before then, someone from northern China and someone from southern China likely wouldnt be able to understand each other. i dont know any Chinese language btw, im just kinda amateurly interested in linguistics

The language/dialect divide doesn't actually exist in linguistics, which has long since moved on to calling things "varieties" instead. So, you have multiple varieties of Chinese just like you have multiple varieties of Arabic or multiple varieties of Romance.

Reminds me of how I used to pick female characters in fighting games because they tended to be faster and more responsive, which was my jam. People gave me so much shit about it that I pick female characters in video games to this day out of stubbornness.

All accounts with OSINT in the name should be viewed with suspicion. I have never seen one that isn't pro-imperialism behind the scenes, they purport to be "open source intelligence" but I am pretty sure a lot of these accounts are run by actual feds and are used for the distribution of propaganda content.
