Not gonna lie, it really is fucking pathetic how many aging millenials on this site are stuck in the past. Like people have moved on from 90s Simpsons and early 2000s era ebaumsworld comedy, or whatever the fuck. We get it, you thought the dark knight was "sick" when it came out. Yeah you like the "old Kanye" and that "classic 50 cent and Eminem rap." Yeah we get it, Sega Genesis or N64 was the "bEsT cOnSoLe EVER L33t!!!" Yes we know that "FINAL FANTASY 7 IS THE BEST GAME OF ALL TIME!!!" Oh and don't forget: "I remember when it was called 'The' Facebook you dumb zoomers!"

If it weren't for the leftist ideas they were exposed to, I 100% believe they would become reactionary chuds. In fact I suspect there is a slight reactionary element in them because they just can't get with the times. They'll push back and say "hurr durr why should I care about shitty zoomer shit" even though that's literally exactly what their parents said to the stuff they cared about. That being said there are some that realize that they are getting out of touch and are going out of their way to let others claim their own future.

bad take people shouldn't be shamed for prefering the pop culture that they watched as a kid. It's harmless and could not matter less

      also it'll happen to you

Joke's on you. I am a millennial. It's my own generation that I see falling for this nostalgia bullshit. I made a post about a while back: https://hexbear.net/post/247679. TL;DR nostalgia brain is often the first step into reactionary/fascist tendencies from what I've observed (e.g. "things were better back in my day sonny boy!")

Yeah I saw that post and disagreed with it then. For young people to have their cultural space we need to not inject ourselves into the content made for and by them.

I am less familiar with the cartoons and movies aimed at young people because I have less free time available to watch cartoons and movies now and that's OK not everything needs to be for you. I'm more familiar with the music I grew up with than whatever now occupies the cultural niche the Jonas brothers used to fill and that's fine because that's just not music made for me as the target audience

I mean not to knock on HoChiMax, but he was denying that young men needing dating advice was a thing, until he realized he was wrong and made a post about how he is a well-adjusted, fit guy with a healthy partnership, family, and friend circle (I can't search far enough back for his post cuz of the 1 month limit on this site). So if he says something is "barely a thing" then I tend not to agree with him.

I don't think it's the "enjoying things from when you were young" part that's the problem, it's the "and that's why everything that the next generations like suck" part.

Yeah that is out of order. Part of getting older sensibly is realising that music for teenagers, is no longer for you and that star wars and superhero media being childrens movies if you as an adult see them and don't like them it's not a big deal.

Grown adults complaining about not liking the latest star wars films is like complaining that now your 30 you don't find peppa pig as entertaining as you did when you were 3

I will be on TikTok the moment people start posting 50+ minute long reviews and video essays about 20 year old video games there

It'd be neat if they had anything substantive to say about the games, but video game essays are mostly breathless hagiographies about how the game is good and you have good taste for liking it.

Idk it can be nice to have a piece of work you enjoy dissected in a positive light. I do the same shit with my friends when we find a book we all enjoy, or movie, why not games? In depth analysis doesn't have to be critique

i like them because angry ranty man and also it's sometimes better to watch a summary of a game getting played for 10-20 minutes than to be 4 hours into a game and still trying to figure out what mushrooms do

I actually think things overall are getting shittier, but I also notice a tendency of people to not deal with the present and retreat into the comfort of their childhoods. That's mainly what I'm against. People who don't wanna deal with reality and retreat into nostalgia.

Yeah, insofar as nostalgia and those prone to a rose-tinted view of the past can lead to reactionary tendencies. See this post: https://hexbear.net/post/247679

:think-mark: if you weren't nostalgic and didn't read leftist theory you still wouldn't be leftist lol.

but you're mistaken to think nostalgia is blanket reactionary. some things were better in the past. my auntie waxing nostalgic about public transit infrastructure we don't have anymore isn't reactionary.

that's just a second post claiming "bro trust me it's totally happening" but is mostly contentless. it's hard to extract a coherent and principled message beyond "why old people not watch children's cartoons like me".

I mean I could go through every comment and thread on this site and compile the times that references that only millenials know are mentioned and compare it to references that other gens would know. And my hunch is that there would definitely be a greater percentage of millennial references. You saying that "it's not a thing" is also a "trust me it's NOT happening thing" so I'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish.
