Hot take : Jack Black is devoid of talent and people should just stop talking about him

Well I'm not sure it's that hot here but it certainly is on the mainstream internet

Tenacious D was genuinely good and the little skits they did were funny at the time. He's just been riding that fame for a very long time. Tbh I'm glad he's just a shitlib unlike Gervais who made only 1 good thing and then dive bombed into being an insufferable twat

I take it he's always been that smarmy self obsessed athiest weirdo who thinks he's above everyone else? Like the one true enlightened one.

The office really was an anomaly. The podcast with karl pilkington also but the humour entirely came from karl in that anyway and Gervais just served as a laugh track.

Karl is a naturally very funny guy but the bullying was painful. Much preferred when he got his own show tormenting him for laughs wasn't enjoyable to watch

Young Jake Black was good I just feel now in the era of continual media making and consumption he is now self insert "omg Jake Black!!!" instead of willing or being offered to actually play a character which is horrifyingly depressing. In fact Jake Black and Mamoa are examples of actors being reduced into their names the way capitalist media commonly reduces the arts down into the most easily consumable and marketable pieces like slop sold to readily hungry pigs

eghhh, he's run his course but he had a few good movies where he acted well, and he can play some fun music. I wouldn't say talentless. He's just on a very cash-grabbing run as the gaming movie guy.

he's very one note, and isn't really an actor but more just plays himself. Once that got old after a couple movies, his career should have ended

He was good as a voice actor in the Metalocalpse movie. Not a fan of him in much else. I can't speak to his talent because he just rubs me the wrong way and it wouldn't be fair.

as is well known, it is impossible to grow facial hair or use hairpieces to replicate them. so we can only use actors for this role who are currently sporting mutton chops

also lol at using a man with a gigantic jaw made of titanium to portray Kim, whose main caricature feature is a small jaw.

Also I don't think Jack Black has the acting ability to play Harry, and he's not a good face for such a movie because of the genre people are used to see him act in

I would be much more worried about the writing than the casting. I could just see a situation where they make a rough cut that's really true to the tone of the game, but then test audiences don't like it, so producers take a hatchet to the entire thing and bring in Joss Whedon to "punch it up" and we get a flashback scene with The Deserter where a coalition airship comes over the horizon and he turns to his fellow revolutionary and says "they fly now!?"

daniel dae kim as kim is borderline racist or something because they have nothing in common besides being korean/fantasy korean-new worlder, and having "kim" in their name. it would be like casting harry styles as tequila sunset

Casting aside, how would a game where at least half of the dialog takes place in the protagonist's mind even work as a movie?

The Lynch version of Dune did that for much of the run.

half the movie is cross fades and narration. the 2nd 50% of the plot happens in like 5 minutes. it's bad lmao

it's a bafflingly dull and badly paced movie filled with narration and cross-fades. Everyone I've ever tried to watch it with has fallen asleep

The begining is a chore just because he had to make 1 movie out a very dense book. 30 Minutes in and it's one of the most visually interesting works of the 80s. There is nothing that looks like it. And the story gets better but without the narration you miss a lot. It's unfortunate he did have to use as much narration as he did. They didn't have the time and money to complete his vision. I think what's there is more entertaining than the 2 new films. It's also frankly more daring. It's criminally underrated. It's a lightning rod for crit because it was a box office failure, lynch was pissed he couldn't finish it, and most Americans are too impatient to devote 30 minutes of time for character development. It's by no means a terrible movie. Cats was a terrible movie. Jaws 3D was a terrible movie. Lynch's Dune is facinating and unique.

Lynch wasn’t mad he couldn’t finish it. He said it was the worst experience of his life and he would never do anything like it again. He wanted off the project as soon as possible.

He spent more time on torturing a hairless cat and a minor lieutenant of the Atreides than he spent on the entirety of the Fremen people and Chani’s character. The new films are so much better it’s not even funny.

I heard him talking about it on some KROQ show a few years ago when I was in the area. He said she didn't want to do it the way the studio did and when they stopped letting him do his thing he stopped trying to finish it. It's Lynch so who fucking knows what's true. He speaks in riddles.

I respectfully disagree on the new Dune films. Good director and Hans is always an interesting composer but I just found the rigid blockbuster movie scifi action flick spin on it played out. I really didn't need the drawn out EXPLOSIONS and battles. It get's tedious after a while. I didn't like the choice of actors. All of them. It also just felt too sanitized visually. That's not exactly good criticism but it lacked an edge or something that set it apart. Too clinical maybe? That said, The VFX on a technical level was awesome. I can't deny the skill involved. Like working in Houdini and Blender is already pretty next level human brain shit but also the cutting edge physics involved ... much respect.

I do not get the love for 2nd. They changed some pretty substantial plotlines. Or I should say characters and factions involved in events of those plot lines and their decisions which changes the dynamics of the story enough to make it hard to comprehend their motivations. WTF was that ending. Awful. I don't remember that in the book but I read it a while ago.

It rains at the end of Lynch's Dune, so I don't know if it has a leg to stand on as far as plot changes go.

Give each person in the theatre a set of headphones that will overlay a randomised track with different in-head personas talking for each person watching. A slightly different experience every time.

Jack Black can't play a drunk marxist cop when he's always cast as the utopian anarchist who is suspiciously only surrounded by other white people.

Jack Black is a man with next to no principles beyond making a check. Who better to play somebody in a tabula rasa state.
