How would one go about making their handwriting prettier?
Writing forlorn and fatalistic love notes and poetry to their lover
I did and sent through snail mail.
INCREDIBLY GAY
You could smell my perfume from it too ^^
I don't know but when you find out lemme know, writing dysphoria SUCKS
The secret is to write so messily that no one can read your writing, let alone gender it
ok so infodump time
i write exclusively with fountain pens. learning calligraphy, and teaching myself to write slower, and using a fountain pen all the time prettied up my writing.
some muscle things: don't write with your wrist, keep it stationary. when you write, try to use your shoulder muscles. believe it or not, this gives you more control over what you're writing and helps you to even out the shapes.
having a nice pen to write with that feels good is really important imo. i use fountain (with ball tip so that i can go in all directions, which is cheating, but i still trained myself to write in one direction, did things like splitting out the 'o' into two strokes due to that), but i used gel pens for a while. also i use nice notebooks that feel good to write on, that's a big plus too.
if writing feels good, it'll look good, imo.
Heyo thanks for the infodump. I'll be looking into it.
Thank you for the advice! I was never really taught good handwriting practices
This is super helpful, my cursive is pretty sometimes but often sloppy.
Could take up calligraphy, I was taught how to write with a fountain pen, so I can do cursive.
there's subreddits for handwriting and calligraphy that are pretty friendly in my experience
I can't believe you have me considering dusting off the ol' reddit account
I changed my handwriting in high school because I was bored af. In primary school I learned a little bit of cursive and we were required to write with fountain pen back then so I thought that’s what I had to do to fix my writing in high school.
I bought a fountain pen and started writing the alphabet in cursive and trying out different cursive styles to find out what I liked. I fully personalised my alphabet and then I started practicing with the letters I found most difficult to train my muscle memory. Just write the same letter 100 times over with intent. Start really slow and speed up when it starts to look better. Keep focussed on your goal of improving though because if you just write in autopilot then you’re not actually training your muscle memory. I had to change my script a little bit because some letters were just impossible to keep pretty in my preferred style while writing fast. So that’s something to keep in mind too.
Guidelines were pretty important for me to keep a consistent letter size, but I also practiced on paper without lines whenever I felt that my letters looked good enough with lines.
You don’t need a good pen and paper to write nice but it helps against cramps and it looks a bit better. They also can make practicing more fun and easy because you can feel how smooth the pen glides.
I love oxford and clairefontain notebooks because their paper is extremely smooth. So smooth that fountain pen ink can take a while to dry on them which is not nice because you don’t want to wait every time you need to turn to a new page. So I no longer use a fountain pen and switched to a €20 rollerball pen which also writes very smooth.
