I'll start.
There really is no point to monogamy other than to feed one's ego and aspiring to have your own children over adopting is its own form of eugenics.

Wow this is truly quite a take.
Goes triple for white couples who live in gentrified communities.
considering the shit show that is the human body and genetics, thinking you are performing eugenics by fucking is kind of a wild take. Eugenics (at best) would be the guided filtering and exclusion of undesirable traits by design through a master understanding of DNA and its expression and at worst the justification for committing wanton genocide and sterilizations.
It would only be eugenics if you believe you possess superior genes to begin with, lol
I got one that I'm probably going to regret posting. BDSM stuff weirds me out and I have a suspicion that its so popular because society is fucked up and nobody has any real agency.
This was basically the topic of the shitty essay Bernie wrote in college that they tried to smear him with a few times.
Honestly though I think this is probably reasonable; our desires are affected by our social climate, I don't know why sex and kink would be exempt. That being said, having partaken in a good amount of light bdsm, its pretty fun when both partners are into it, regardless of what motivates it.
This used to bother me, but eventually I realized that my entire personality is shaped by the society I grew up in. There's no reason to think sex stuff should somehow be the one magic thing that comes entirely from some concept of the self that's uncorrupted by society.
It's fine, it's just kink stuff.
You almost certainly also have kinks that in other times or in other places would be thought as weird - like, they'd all be thinking "wtf is with these 2020 people and their obsession with tits, tits aren't even the sexiest part of a person". The 90s had a weird obsession with small asses on women and now it's all about curvy ladies for example.
Is BDSM that popular? I don't know the numbers, but I think it's still pretty niche. And then to what degree? Like being blindfolded versus someone stomping on your bits. I always think about this question with pedos. Like is there some trauma that triggers the fetish, brain chemistry, sociopathology, capitalism, or some genetic disposition?
It seems to be pretty popular, lots of folks on dating sites put in their profile that they're a dom or a sub or whatever.
The second one. Extreme pain and the mommy / daddy stuff is not for me.
I'm not married to this take and I'm not fuck scientist or anything so I'm gonna let the last part hang. I definitely don't fault anyone who is into it and I don't think its any kind of "defect" or anything.
I find it to be a good stress reliever and an excellent way to explore and reinforce boundaries/trust. Our fucked up society def plays a part tho, half my fantasies are just me coping with trauma from being treated like a financial object growing up.
I'm confused on your pronoun shifts of who the it and they are in each passage.
there seems to be significant psychological and emotional differences between us and normal “not political” people
I know what you mean, but at the same time I also want to know if you can elaborate
We start with a rancid take. I hope this one takes off, I want to see what you come up with.
Yeah, that's fine. But there's something possessive about exclusivity.
What if both partners want exclusivity because that’s what they prefer in a sexual relationship?
Then they're both self-absorbed into one another. Sounds like everyone's winning.
I don't have the mental or physical energy to have a deep relationship with more than one person. I'm more than happy settling and sharing a bond with a single partner. I have no issue with polyamory if it's your thing but it feels kinda hurtful to be accused of ego stroking for being in love and in a monogamous relationship.
I'm curious if plant-based diets and Communism could ever coexist.
I could imagine such a world. Like, looking at an animal in 2140 with telepathic agency and being like, "Can you believe they used to eat these 100 years ago?" looking upon with the same disgust we currently do today with cannibalism.
I’m curious if plant-based diets and Communism could ever coexist
I'm wondering if you could call a not plant-based society truly classless and thus communist
As a vegan I see communism as the only way to animal liberation. Animal agriculture is generally not great for humans either and from an environmental and epidemiological perspective it would make sense to switch to a plant based society.
Lots of tankies obsess over violent revolution and brutalizing enemies not because they want to do good, but because they belong to oppressed groups, and they want to inflict the same kind of pain on others that they themselves have suffered. Aside from shallow associations with idols and imagery, their identity doesn't extend much further beyond "I want to hurt people I hate."
Nah let them downbear, if my take is shit my take is shit
thanks tho
I think it might be a bit of both. There is something almost inherently appealing about the idea of those who fucked over everyone else finally getting what they deserve. And when you're a leftist, sometimes it feels like you are just helplessly watching as these ghouls actively make life worse for others in order to enrich themselves, and do war crimes in order to support the American empire, and all sorts of other evil shit that they are virtually guaranteed to get away with. And that just kind of causes those thoughts wishing the utmost harm on these people to fester.
But while this is a tendency we should actively try to check (in favor of this), I wouldn't go as far as to say that harm on their enemies is all "tankies" care about.
I don't think this is unique to "tankies" or ML(M)s, anarchists frequently call to put people on the wall or post John Brown memes. Most of it is probably the same hormonal angsty rage most young people who want to fight for something in our otherwise meaningless lives have. The rest is probably the circlejerk. Maybe historical materialism has something to do with it too.
Not to start infighting but I could say the same thing for anarchists
Yeah I don't think we can say whether or not a particular tendency is more "violent" than the other online without either acknowledging that our experience is anecdotal or doing some pretty in depth research on it.
You'd be full of shit if you did. The average internet anarchist is much kess prone to violent fantasies.
Ah yes, Horseshoe Theory rears its ugly head again. When you get to the barebones, both adopt cult-like status and want to regulate and control human agency with austere measures, and slay those who get in their way.
First, I don't think being driven by hatred for your oppressors is mutually exclusive with having a sincere Marxist-Leninist ideology. If you want to take revenge on your oppressors, Marxism-Leninism offers the means.
Second, that's fine, actually. I don't think it makes much sense to only allow the pure of heart in the proletarian revolution.
We have no compassion and we ask no compassion from you. When our turn comes, we shall not make excuses for the terror.
On the other hand, if you're saying that a lot of MLs are just indiscriminately sadistic, that's a load of shit and a repackaging of the anticommunist propaganda line that communists are just bloodthirsty, power-hungry murderers with no sincere convictions.
Zizek and I are the hopeless romantic monogamists. (In reply to the first controversial opinion) https://youtu.be/YTCiVDwmZ6U?t=1205
Okay my stupid and obviously biased take: We should strive to remove gendered pronouns from English. Gendering adjectives and nouns is bad and dumb, and getting rid of that was a superb move on the part of the otherwise vile Britons. Including gender in the way we refer to someone in the third person is as stupid as gendering the adjectives we describe someone with.
That being said until this is accomplished (and with how long it takes languages to shift this wouldn't be in my lifetime) I will vigorously defend my trans comrades' right to be referred to by whatever the fuck pronoun they please.
Also, yall is good. Make yall an official word, with no apostrophe.
I would like to piggyback my unpopular take off of yours. I hate the word yall. I hate the way it makes me feel, I hate the way it comes out of my mouth, but I feel so forced to use it because there is no other alternative that feels as good at what it is. Ustedes and Les feels fantastic, yall or "you all" sucks.
In Ireland we say "ye" for the plural you, but if an American ever said that I think I would shrivel up and die
Certain parts of the US use “yinz” in the same way. I wonder if there’s any connection there.
Looks like it's short for "you ones":
Yinz is the most recent derivation from the original Scots-Irish form you ones or "yous ones", a form of the second person plural commonly heard in parts of Ulster. When standard-English speakers talk in the first person or third person, they use different pronouns to distinguish between singular and plural. In the first person, for example, speakers use the singular I and the plural we. But when speaking in the second person, you performs double duty as both the singular form and the plural form. Crozier (1984) suggests that during the 19th century, when many Irish speakers switched to speaking English, they filled this gap with you ones, primarily because Irish has a singular second-person pronoun, tú, as well as a plural form, sibh. The following, therefore, is the most likely path from you ones to yinz: you ones [juː wʌnz] > you'uns [juːʌnz] > youns [juːnz] > yunz [jʌnz] > yinz [jɪ̈nz]. Because there are still speakers who use each form,[2] there is no stable second-person plural pronoun form in southwest or central Pennsylvania, which is why the pronoun is variably referred to or spelled as you'uns, y'ins, y'uns, yunz, yuns, yinz, yenz, yins or ynz.
oh god even worse, there really is no good English substitute for me
I would be fine with y’all, except that 90% of the time I see or hear it, the speaker is condescending to me or they’re mad at me for something I don’t control.
I like "guys" or "you guys," it's pretty deeply ingrained in me by habit but i think it's probably not the best to use.
yeah, you know what I like guys best too, that's probably what I use the most. Why can't we just redefine the word 'guy' as gender neutral :/
Not really about leftism but chiropractors are not good folks. There is pretty much no evidence that they can help with structural back problems, like scoliosis or kyphosis you can read here. Also I have a rare back problem, imagine if a chiropractor misdiagnosed it as "bad posture" and tried to correct the impossible and injured me? If you want pain relief go to a physiotherapist instead, they at least try to incorporate evidence based thinking
This is correct. It's pseudoscience and they tend to have a lot of other quack beliefs like being anti-vax.
Also, there's apparently a chiropractor lobby, because in my state chiropractors (who are not actually medical professionals) can give referrals to get x-rays but physical therapists can't. What the fuck.
I'm using up all of my controversial takes in other threads, sorry.
