"Oh, shit, the price of beef shot up and we have to put some sort of filler in all the patties we sell? Hmmmm I wonder if we can promote that as a good thing that'll make people pay even more than they would if it was just beef"

Get those beef prices higher still.

I want to choose between 80/20 Vegan, 90/10 Vegan, and "Eat the Rich" grade ground.

That's the same logic as going into a store to buy things you don't need because there's a sale

motherfucker you're not spending 50% less, you're spending 100% more

Eh, if everyone who eats beef patties now switched to this 50/50 thing that would dramatically lower beef consumption, which would be inarguably, enormously good. It'd be foolish to give up a gain that big on the grounds that it could be even bigger.

“if this imaginary scenario i made up happened then…”

Yes, you can't really have a discussion about the future without speaking in hypotheticals. I don't know what's surprising about that.

Flexatarianism, meatless mondays and vegetarianism are are the liberalism of diets. The only leftist lifestyle is veganism.

It might be good if it was operating at industrial scale rather than as a boutique brand.

Compromise? Veganism was the compromise. The real antithesis is to eat non-vegans.

not sure of there still are, but when covid first broke out there definitly was. "Shortage" may be a strong word, but meat plants are not putting put as much beef and prices have gone up, so in comes this cheaper option that still also has beef in it. That's what I'm guessing.

Slaughterhouses are one of the easiest ways for a mass outbreak to occur, so they've had to scale back the killing significantly. Maple's Leaf's plant-based brand (LightLife) tastes like ass, so I'd wager you're correct: they're just blending their bullshit pea protein into their beef to make up for production shortages.

Like, I've done "blenditarian" burgers (half beef, half mushrooms) that turned out really well, but I don't imagine that these were made for any particular reason other than "New product, please consume"

Yep nothing wrong with the concept, but I don't feel like I need a prepackaged version.
