damn i bet they have some cool history books over there that're not translated into english. i want to hear hot chinese takes on the soviet union, stalin, brezhnev etc.
Somehow that statement awakened a deep nationalistic part of me I didn't know I had. Anyways...
I'll die before being Texan!
Is it true they teach creationism as part of science in some American schools?
I was taught in middle school that abstinence only applied to all areas of life, including abstaining from eating ranch dressing on salad and not playing video games for five hours.
not playing video games for five hour
But what if you wear a condom
I know several bio teachers, while they don't have to teach creationism here they do have to treat evolution as a "story" and really emphasize that it's a theory, though I know at least one of them explains that gravity is also a theory and that theories in science are essentially proven
I low key think that Traditional Chinese Medicine is going to be one of these things that gets "rediscovered". Bring it up with anyone in the West and its "rhino horn" this and "tiger penis" that. But they never acknowledge that the first effective anti-malarial drug was discovered basically by referring to the herb used in a centuries old TCM treatment.
Western traditional medicine also had working stuff along with the poison, for example aspirin. So I'd have to hear more before believing Chinese traditional medicine isn't also 98% trash
Ursodiol is just bile, nothing specific to bears in it. I assume TCM has much broader uses too.
Thank you for astutely illustrating the attitude of "it came from non-whites and hasn't been verified by whites, so it must be trash until proven otherwise."
So I’d have to hear more before believing Chinese traditional medicine isn’t also 98% trash
What does "also" refer to there?
I actually use Chinese herbal medicine in the USA. There are definitely people in the USA who use plant based TCM.
yep. heres an example thats been translated into english. They have very interesting insights especially since their education system shifts the focus from a more individualist examination of the world to a one of collective and systemic examinations instead.
American “Revolution”: The “Black Hole” of American Electioneering and the Lessons China Must Draw JUL 29 WRITTEN BY TU ZHUXI
I read it and it just comes off as saying that having a singular all encompassing state is what is best and having all commands come from the party in charge. Which might work from a Chinese collective culture, but a lot of cultures don’t operate that way.
Also economic texts hashing out the likely trajectory of production.

I strongly encourage China simps not to read books written in China. The Chinese censorship apparatus is not strict enough; you will get triggered by domestic critiques that sound exactly like the commentary you think only comes from Western anarchists on twitter. I particularly warn you against reading Lu Xun and Yu Hua's perspectives on greed and ambition in their respective periods of China's history, and then considering just how little has changed over the course of the PRC's reign.
Yes, exactly. Not only was he a great writer (worth reading on purely literary grounds) he also accurately predicted many of the pitfalls that the left in China would face. The lessons he drew from the Xinhai revolution are useful to understanding the failure of Chinese communism (and a hell of a lot more well written them most texts in that line).
How dare you! Because China has achieved the immense accomplishment of simply not being as bad as the US, China should not be criticised.
I've never heard of them so i'm just gonna assume they work for the CIA
I don't think the person who brought him up was implying his writings were supposed to be contrary to the PRC. I think they were bringing him up to make the point that his critiques are very similar to those of the more modern writer they brought up.
The tower of babel and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race
tbh its working in chinas favor. it helps them avoid having western media pollute the shit out of everyones brains.
is it me or do you guys dickride china too hard like bruh it's a country composed of humans not unattainable gods
100% this, the chapo sub was considerably more critical of China before all the sinophobia took over the website during the HK protests. A lot of western communists were critical of China, just because in some ways it's better than the US, in a lot of other ways it's really not special in any way other than it's size.
Cuba is like actually a model I'd want to see my own country make efforts to adopt, I don't really feel the same way about modern China.
You have to understand that most Western leftists base their ideology on being the opposite of what their country, mainly America likes.
Why yes the future of socialism is capitalism, except it’s based Chinese
"Don't resist american imperialism because China bad" is a brainlet take. Try harder at least.
Did I say China is bad? Lol you and the rest of the users on here are definitely at the head of resisting American imperalism.
I don't want to resist China, I want them to take over and bring over some of their techniques for dealing with troublesome individuals over here.
I think you would be surprised on which one of us would get in trouble with the PAAG secret police.
I can't help but feel that the most effective counter to that would not be unironic dickriding disguised as ironic dickriding, but honest discussion and finally not saying critical support just to seem neutral.
It's mainly just reddit for some reason. The mainstream media to a lesser extent too, but it's only reddit that obsesses over China.
idk man taking a dumb position in response to a dumb position is just multiplying the dumbness
The interest aint the issue, it's the obsessive and fawning nature of every post about china on here
My entire life i've only ever been told about China as though they are some genocidal Nazis, and everything in the west you ever hear about China is how they're evil and shit. People being interested in learning more about the largest socialist state in the world on a leftist site you think is weird? You can find plenty of negative things about China everywhere, how is it weird to actually want to learn and engaged with other things?
My entire life i’ve only ever been told about China as though they are some genocidal Nazis, and everything in the west you ever hear about China is how they’re evil and shit
I mean I've lived in America my whole life and I never got that, so that's incorrect
you can find plenty of negative things about China everywhere, how is it weird to actually want to learn and engaged with other things?
Wanting to learn is fine, acting like China is this magical equestrian where the blessed and holy people dance under the light of heaven itself . I see a lot of that second thing all the time round these here parts
Maybe it's an age thing. There is a little period where the sinophobia cooled down. I grew up hearing China forces everyone to abort their second child. It was common knowledge. I also heard all about the terrible suppression of falun gong. However, I disliked our own right-wing religious fundamentalists so much I couldn't help but wonder if China was on the right track.
this is a site for people to discuss and shitpost about leftist shit, its not a fucking workers international, get off this high horse bs, if you dont like something you go on and ignore it, you dont have to act like your day is ruined cause you saw people talking about China on chapo.chat
EVERY MORNING I WAKE UP AND OPEN PALM SLAM A VHS INTO THE SLOT. IT’S THE LITTLE RED BOOK AND RIGHT THEN AND THERE I START DOING THE MOVES ALONGSIDE WITH THE MAIN CHARACTER, MAO ZEDONG. I DO EVERY MOVE AND I DO EVERY MOVE HARD. MAKIN WHOOSHING SOUNDS WHEN I SLAM DOWN SOME LANDLORD BASTARDS OR EVEN WHEN I MESS UP TECHNIQUE. NOT MANY CAN SAY THEY BUILT SOCIALISM. I CAN. I SAY IT AND I SAY IT OUTLOUD EVERYDAY TO PEOPLE IN MY COLLEGE CLASS AND ALL THEY DO IS PROVE PEOPLE IN COLLEGE CLASS CAN STILL BE IMMATURE JEKRS. AND IVE LEARNED ALL THE LINES AND IVE LEARNED HOW TO MAKE MYSELF AND MY APARTMENT LESS LONELY BY SHOUTING EM ALL. 2 HOURS INCLUDING WIND DOWN EVERY MORNIng
Yeah, it's the thing I hate most about this site for sure. Gotta just ignore all the cringe. They seem to swarm their own posts though--on a thread about a non-China topic, you wouldn't be getting as many downvotes. It takes a special kind of "became a ML through youtube videos" energy to honestly think China in 2020 is "actually existing socialism" that needs to be coddled on chapo.chat. The type of person who enthusiastically defends the economic system that created Foxconn and Jack Ma is not really worth thinking too much about, but my diagnosis would be that they really need to have a hero to root for (natural since many people view geopolitics as a sport) and can't quite wrap their mind around the fact that we are as close to socialism as a peasant in the Great Peasant War was to capitalism [insert Brace rant].
Downvotes below please, thank you!
Yeah like uh, I know china aint the new third reich like some conservatives say but like, it aint all that perfect or good and acting like it is just reminds me of catholic high school kids becoming virulent fedora atheists because they discovered The Amazing Atheist videos on youtube
You and I don't get it. I'm told we're being idealists. If we understood the immortal science of Marxism -Leninism, we would be able to view things from a materialist perspective, and we would understand that socialist states are not judged by their economic systems as they currently are, or the actions that their leadership have taken to date, but instead by the intentions Youtube Marxists and state television ascribe to the country's leaders. Unless we have access to Xi Jinping's diary, we'll never be able to argue that China is anything less than Actually Existing Socialism.
I got an insanely spicy take to counter that assertation:
You can do bad shit in service of a "greater goal". Doesn't make the bad shit not bad
FFS the guys who nuked Hiroshima and Nagasaki and firebombed cities all over the world thought they were doing it for a "greater good". You can do some pretty fucking heinous shit so things will be nice tomorrow
See, the tragedy of this website, is that because I agree with you and have expressed similar opinions before, I can verbatim predict how the Foxconn brigade would respond. (Something like "you're a western chauvinist projecting western imperialism onto China, they would never nuke anyone ever, I know because they said so on the floor of the UN and no one has ever lied there. Here are 500 tweets by Max Bluementhal to prove my point.")
Sigh. Maybe I need to avoid these threads until the average Chapo user is less terminally online, but I'm hesitant to do so because I feel like letting China simps clog up the homepage with CGTV clips without any debate is how sites like this end up being dead end forums with like five Red Guard posters and five FBI agents.
outside of main it's pretty good. Just wait it out most of em are acting up because they feel people are unfair to China so they take up a contrarian position where China is actually perfect. It's like when people discover that like, America didn't solo WWII so they then think that it was entirely the soviets that did literally everything. Second opinion bias stuff
Still hard agree with that - US citizens understand theyre parasites at a material level
Since when was seeking out alternative ideas from other humans not a worthy endeavor? Do ideas have to come from unattainable gods before we consider them?
I prob picked the wrong thread to bring it up but it's something that's grated on me since we moved
speaking as an American, we see China surpassing us as a world power, and we cannot help but feel strongly about it and react
and for most Americans, this is manifesting as sinophobia, but for those of us who hate the US, it's manifesting as sinomania
we cannot help but feel strongly about it and react
ok but like most people don't care. Only the online types and even then only the political types
