There's plenty of good non-MSM stuff out there and it's not exactly hard to find. My film recommendation is A Touch Of Sin. It's by a Chinese director, all in Chinese, and apparently Xi Jinping is a fan, despite the fact that the director sometimes critiques the state in his films. The first act is fucking awesome - some guy takes revenge on his corrupt boss.

Well, it's not western MSM so much. It did well at Cannes and the NYT loved it for some reason, but most people won't have heard of it. It was funded by China, but then they hampered it's release and distribution because it was a bit edgy for their liking.

Anyway, I thought you just wanted some variety and escape from shit western media that's mostly comprised of sequels, requels and prequels.

Gonna always recommend Ursula Le Guin's The Dispossessed to any leftist looking to read a good (anarchist) book to read

Also Takiji Kobayashi's The Crab Cannery Ship if you want some good proletarian stories

The culture series by Iain M Banks is dope as hell, it's set in a highly advanced society with fully automated luxury gay space communism. I find it's a good complement to Ursula Le Guin's sci Fi series The Hainish Cycle.

#1 we need a piracy sub #2 premiumize has many stream/dl hostern (they dont show all of them any more, but it's prolly around 50 by now). It also has a torrent could, so you can copy a magnet link into their downloader and download it full speed from their server. So no connection between torrent host and you.

Pretty sure he means just like a quick and easy how to guide. A "piracy" "primer", not a "piracy primer", it's no specific term for something.

For a live action remake of a cartoon, no less. Why would anybody watch this or the aladdin or lion king remake? The cartoons were so good. It seems like they are meant to appeal to millennial nostalgia, but I fucking hate having my nostalgia used against me like that

Don't get me wrong, I'm all about seeing Chinese actors in Chinese roles, and I think the kid from aladdin was actually from Agarabah, but maybe we could do some new stories set in those places instead of rehashing the same old movies again and again?

I think Mulan definitely could work better as live action, compared to Lion King, that was very weird.

My favorite Disney OG cartoon is still Robin Hood I have to say, I love it so much. Just one of the best movies ever IMO.
Edit: Also ideologically the best one, take from the rich give to the poor. I don't think they'll remake this one for some time.

Great movie. Plus I'm convinced that reusing the animation from the jungle book is praxis somehow.

Actually, the most messed up part of that movie is when you realize that Sir Hiss has fur all over his body https://images.app.goo.gl/YNATbAFgNqWqTGWa7

I Just hate how cynical it all is. I mean, they're not remaking these movies because they think they can tell the story better or with a new twist. They are remaking them because people with kids will gladly pay $30 to share some of their childhood memories with their own children.

Has human creativity really stifled so much under the thumb of capitalism that the only acceptable kind of movies to make anymore are either sequels to star wars and marvel or Disney remakes?

Yeah jungle book is great as well, I think in general the old OG cartoons are pretty based(not you Aladdin)

Oh god I will never unsee this, typical spez ruining things tss tss tss

          Edit:

I Just hate how cynical it all is. I mean, they’re not remaking these movies because they think they can tell the story better or with a new twist. They are remaking them because people with kids will gladly pay $30 to share some of their childhood memories with their own children.

Yeah its just a moneygrab, they already own the story, they just need to slightly adjust it and rendering gets cheaper by the day. So yeah, fuck Disney.

It's don't believe that it's (just) nostalgia, I think it's something far more insidious, and I doubt that Disney is doing it consciously: Neoliberalism (or postmodernism or whatever) has robbed us of our cultural capacity to create the New. Like Fredric Jameson prophecized back in the 80s, late capitalisms culture is characterized by repetition and pastiche, with old forms and old content being recycled, the only new stuff we get is technology. Mark Fisher argued that the movie Children of Men is also about a society like ours, where the catastrophe that made almost everyone infertile is a metaphor for the inevitable end point of our own slow decline of collective imaginative and creative ability. That's why all those Marvel films suck so much ass - they're obviously competently made, the actors are good, the music is alright etc. - but at the bottom, they're really only rehashes of stories that came out as comics like fifty years ago, only the technology is now better so we get cgi animated Hulk instead of some dumbass in a green onesie jumping around a set made out of cardboard or something.

They need to keep reusing content so that they can push out the copyright expiry date (won't expire if they're actively using it), same reason mickey mouse has been used everywhere. A little more boring than what you said, but it's not inaccurate cause it's the same result either way. If I was a lib I'd definitely fight to curtail copyright for that reason.

I would generally agree....but this is the first of those remakes since the Jungle Book i'm kind of interested just because it seems vastly different from the original More of a Wushu/war epic then the typical disney paradigm. They even (wisely) cut out the comic relief eddie murphy sidekick who was nothing but a cynical attempt to recreate the magic of the Genie and Robin williams anyway.

Also...while I have mixed feelings on China, them casting a pro communist party actress triggered a ton of people and that owns...so yeah...I'm kinda interested in watching it.

You're going to need the popcorn to watch the lib infighting about weather they should boycott Mulan or not, because on the one hand strong women lead character, but on the other hand CHYNA!

Disney, having their corporate tentacles everywhere, conspires to cancel the election after economic indicators in the lead up to the election show a recession is developing. A bipartisan amendment is passed giving the leader of Disney all power, because of course a corporation can be relied on to be a modern-day Cincinnatus. The masses fill with despair, as the leader of Disney is set to make a first public announcement... but then Bernie Sanders walks up to the podium wearing one of those Mickey mouse hats and starts to speak. It turns out that Bernie Sanders engaged in covert operations to seize control of Disney from the inside. Yes, Bernie Sanders did a Blanquism, and managed to install himself as the leader of Disney behind the scenes. The masses cheer, we are liberated! Within weeks, Disney is broken up and nationalized, and the good comrade establishes socialism

I am reading this list from Wikipedia correct? Are there three (3) live action Mulan films coming out this year?

    Films

    • Hua Mulan Joins the Army (1927 film) – a silent film released by Tianyi Film Company and directed by Li Pingqian.
    • Mulan Joins the Army (1928 film) – Mingxing Film Company production, directed by Hou Yao. The film was unsuccessful, in part due to the Tianyi film that was released the previous year.
    • Mulan Joins the Army (1939 film) (original English title Hua Mu Lan), available on YouTube with English subtitles – popular Chinese film made during the Second Sino-Japanese War, directed by Bu Wancang and written by Ouyang Yuqian. The film also created a large spark of popularity, in terms of literature.[15]
    • Lady General Hua Mu-lan (1964 film) – Hong Kong opera film.
    • Saga of Mulan (1994 film) – Film adaptation of the Chinese opera based on the legend.
    • The Secret of Mulan – A 1998 animated film by Hong Ying Animation, in which the characters are anthropomorphic animals.
    • Mulan (1998 film) – Disney animated feature, and the basis of many derivative works. Disney's version of the Mulan character has subsequently appeared in other media and promotions, mainly as part of the Disney Princess product line.
    • Mulan II (2004 film) – A direct-to-video Disney animated sequel, set a couple of months after the events of Disney's 1998 film.
    • Mulan (2020 film) – Live action film from Disney that is a remake of the 1998 animated film, which is meant to better resemble the original tale.[16]
    • Mulan (2009 film) – Chinese live action film.
    • Matchless Mulan (无双花木兰) (2020 film) – Chinese live action film.
    • Mulan (2020 film) – produced by Sony Pictures and directed by Alex Graves.[17]
