[Bernie voice] Every day you do not meet my demands, I will execute another congressperson.
Millions of people are going to be evicted come January 1st. They had months to figure out this bill. Pelosi could've pushed several stimulus packages from the house to the senate and made McConnell into the bad guy by forcing him to shooting them down. Instead, she only pushed one bill, let them shoot it down and then refused anything else. As a result, the Republicans were able to spin the narrative that they care about the working man and families across the country, and it's all the Democrats not wanting to pass anything.
Pelosi practically bragged on TV that she shot down Trump's offer cause it would've possibly helped him get re-elected. Then last week after they took the checks out, you had Biden bragging on Twitter that the government isn't supposed to help people and stop asking for handouts. At the rate of Biden running his mouth, the honeymoon phase with him is likely to be over very soon.
We could've had another stimulus many months ago but they wouldn't pass it and Pelosi wouldn't do anything back then. I 100% expect in February after Biden is in office, we'll just get tax credits at the expense of that senile old demented ghoul getting to finally defund social security.
Millions of people are going to be evicted come January 1st.
This is by design, stopping an eviction moratorium from being passed so when Biden takes over everyone's broke and homeless.
It's not going to help Biden at all. He's already going to inherit the worst economy and highest unemployment numbers since the great depression. If anything, the evictions are going to hurt him.
This time around, millions of people voted Democrat hoping these spineless corrupt cowards get off their ass and help them. I have said it on here a number of times and will say it again; Biden will have exactly 1 year to make improvements on the economy and job loss amidst the pandemic. When he fails at that, we are going to witness a reactionary right wing movement unlike anything we have ever seen before.
My guess is that Biden won't fix anything. He has openly bragged that he don't think the government is supposed to help people and made comments about people wanting handouts. All this is going to set the stage for Republicans to sweep big midterm wins and lead the way for a competent fascist promising to fix things.
Yeah that's what I'm saying, the current government is GOP and trying to delay evictions until a Bidet presidency.
Bidet presidency
I'd vote for a bidet over either of the two major candidates we got in November
I agree and knowing Biden, he won't fix the problem. He'll shoot himself in the foot by running his mouth and saying some off the wall WTF things about those evicted people, then will push for ending more entitlements.
It's probably me, but I'm not sure what your point is?
Trump differed in that he was giddy about attacking the "other". He was excited to attack Muslims and Mexicans and Chinese. He could barely, most of the time, refrain from open support of racists. Cotton and Hawley will take the same tack, but in a way that is less appalling to the bare minimum of moderates. They'll be less creepy doing it than Cruz. Trump will look cosmopolitan in his attitude toward the LGBTQ community compared to these 2, though they will stress how horribly Christians are oppressed. Trump will too close to death in 4 years.
Only chance for a non-Fash Republican could maybe be if Kamala is running unopposed and the "moderates" are all voting in the Republican primary (as helped Biden this time, with Trump running unopposed)
It's highly unlikely that millions get evicted on January 1st. Mass upsets like that are too risky. Actually evicting millions all at once might push people over the edge. The strategy, especially for the Democrats, is to make people afraid of being evicted and constantly on edge. Lots of people will lose their homes, but as a slow bleed.
If millions do get evicted January 1st, we better hit the fucking streets and make Biden's inauguration very uncomfortable.
It already is for many of my black friends thanks to that leaked audio from the talj worh black leaders. They are realizing Biden is just gonna do nothing fir them either but with a smile
There's nothing to "figure out"! The CARES act wasn't perfect, but it was a start. Just do that again, and add in some extras to the extent you can with regards to eviction protections. All of the business bullshit can be sorted out in another bill.
Bernie demands 'pay the people or the govt shuts down'
I think 'this the closest we got to any general strike event in the US'
Come on Bernie, let's get it up to $5000, christmas is around the corner, that money is going to spend almost immediately.
Give everyone infinite money, but also inflate all prices to infinity
Abolish money via math technicalities
yo, did a doctor change his meds? where is this power coming from? Would have been nice if he had it at any point untill now.
Probably because he’s old and doesn’t have anywhere further up to move in the party.
He’ll never lose in Vermont so he pretty much has free reign until he chooses to retire.
He did something similar to get the $600 unemployment on the CARES Act
our berniebucks are going to buy my partner a new set of teeth so i find it hard to hate the guy
the Berniebucks get remarkably little mention, kind of a shame considering he single-handedly tanked Number for a day by threatening to amend the CARES act to fuck corporate "aid" if Republicans wouldn't stop trying to take out the $600/week addition to UI
That $600/week is the reason my girlfriend, me, and her disabled mother are still alive.
Trump is out and he's not getting a cabinet seat. He's back to being his best self
He finally got the message that Biden didn't want him anywhere near a position of power
This is the deadliest year in American history, and millions of people are being made homeless, unemployed and hungry. It took a hell of a lot for this guy to grow a spine.
I haven't lived with my mom for three years but she still filed me as a dependent last year so I didn't get a check. Shit fucking sucks.
Yeah, it's been a decade since I dealt with this but you can only be claimed as a dependent if the person claiming you provided like 50% or more of your financial support for the year (you'll have to research the specifics). If they don't meet that qualification, then they're not entitled to claim you.
If they did do that, then they are allowed and it's basically up to the two of you to sort out whether to do that or not. Usually the parent has higher income and thus higher taxes and therefore is likely to save more in taxes by claiming you than you will save in taxes by claiming yourself.
But, again, if they didn't meet that threshold, then they shouldn't be claiming you at all, and if you file a 1040, you can amend those to claim yourself (NOTE: I am not saying that you should do this nor recommending any course of action).
same shit happened to me, even though I had a job for about the last quarter
Don't worry there won't be a second check.
But you have to have filed taxes in the previous year basically, even if it was under the taxable income limit.
Same situation, I read that on your taxes next year you can claim you didn't receive your check, your parents just can claim you again for 2020 tho
See, I thought that was the case but I got the first check anyway despite being in the same situation
Bernie finally grew some balls. Now hopefully he uses his new found iron balls to crush private property.
punished bernie arc would be fucking based, like imagine how much it would own if he was actually a secret commie and just casually revealed his power level one of these days
Bets on what's the scummiest way they can spin this and stop this.
How about 'Bernie is being authoritarian, like Stalin, by forcing his will on other senators'. Then dems and republicans come together with the power of bipartisanship (dudes rock). They just ignore Sanders and fly home, for democracy and for the baby Jesus.
Saying "at least 1200" is more effective I think. Talking about a higher amount turns it into an argument over VUVUZELA IPHONE, but we already had a 1200 check so people see it as possible.
And yes, people are that dumb, they can believe 1300 is impossible while 1200 is possible
And yes, people are that dumb, they can believe 1300 is impossible while 1200 is possible
America is the scary tilt-a-whirl that had me screaming, "STOP THE RIDE" when I was five.
I'd agree to something as low $100 if it was made monthly. That sort of thing would be harder to take away once granted.
Monthly forever would be maybe worth it, but upfront money is needed to cushion people through the current emergency
That's a good point too. It's just looking like they'll give pennies - whether it's short or long term. Securing the precedent is the only thing I hope for - unless there's another protest movement to force them to do better.
FUCK AROUND AND FIND OUT
The elites are so fucked, if they don't agree to this, millions of people will be homeless.
Because the elites hate making people homeless and therefore easier to jail or murder? :bean-think:
It’s reaching the vital “stable” areas like the suburbs now. If those places start to get spooked and worried that’s their main source of capital. If people don’t have homes they don’t have jobs and then they don’t work and so the middle managers and the the small busines die. Then they are gonna demand support.
Just like how no one cared about opium till it hit those areas they will step in when they fear the class consciousness starts growing between the middle class and the lower class
