Millions of people are going to be evicted come January 1st. They had months to figure out this bill. Pelosi could've pushed several stimulus packages from the house to the senate and made McConnell into the bad guy by forcing him to shooting them down. Instead, she only pushed one bill, let them shoot it down and then refused anything else. As a result, the Republicans were able to spin the narrative that they care about the working man and families across the country, and it's all the Democrats not wanting to pass anything.

Pelosi practically bragged on TV that she shot down Trump's offer cause it would've possibly helped him get re-elected. Then last week after they took the checks out, you had Biden bragging on Twitter that the government isn't supposed to help people and stop asking for handouts. At the rate of Biden running his mouth, the honeymoon phase with him is likely to be over very soon.

We could've had another stimulus many months ago but they wouldn't pass it and Pelosi wouldn't do anything back then. I 100% expect in February after Biden is in office, we'll just get tax credits at the expense of that senile old demented ghoul getting to finally defund social security.

Millions of people are going to be evicted come January 1st.

This is by design, stopping an eviction moratorium from being passed so when Biden takes over everyone's broke and homeless.

It's not going to help Biden at all. He's already going to inherit the worst economy and highest unemployment numbers since the great depression. If anything, the evictions are going to hurt him.

This time around, millions of people voted Democrat hoping these spineless corrupt cowards get off their ass and help them. I have said it on here a number of times and will say it again; Biden will have exactly 1 year to make improvements on the economy and job loss amidst the pandemic. When he fails at that, we are going to witness a reactionary right wing movement unlike anything we have ever seen before.

My guess is that Biden won't fix anything. He has openly bragged that he don't think the government is supposed to help people and made comments about people wanting handouts. All this is going to set the stage for Republicans to sweep big midterm wins and lead the way for a competent fascist promising to fix things.

I agree and knowing Biden, he won't fix the problem. He'll shoot himself in the foot by running his mouth and saying some off the wall WTF things about those evicted people, then will push for ending more entitlements.

Trump differed in that he was giddy about attacking the "other". He was excited to attack Muslims and Mexicans and Chinese. He could barely, most of the time, refrain from open support of racists. Cotton and Hawley will take the same tack, but in a way that is less appalling to the bare minimum of moderates. They'll be less creepy doing it than Cruz. Trump will look cosmopolitan in his attitude toward the LGBTQ community compared to these 2, though they will stress how horribly Christians are oppressed. Trump will too close to death in 4 years.

Only chance for a non-Fash Republican could maybe be if Kamala is running unopposed and the "moderates" are all voting in the Republican primary (as helped Biden this time, with Trump running unopposed)

It's highly unlikely that millions get evicted on January 1st. Mass upsets like that are too risky. Actually evicting millions all at once might push people over the edge. The strategy, especially for the Democrats, is to make people afraid of being evicted and constantly on edge. Lots of people will lose their homes, but as a slow bleed.

There's nothing to "figure out"! The CARES act wasn't perfect, but it was a start. Just do that again, and add in some extras to the extent you can with regards to eviction protections. All of the business bullshit can be sorted out in another bill.

          ·

Yeah, it's been a decade since I dealt with this but you can only be claimed as a dependent if the person claiming you provided like 50% or more of your financial support for the year (you'll have to research the specifics). If they don't meet that qualification, then they're not entitled to claim you.

If they did do that, then they are allowed and it's basically up to the two of you to sort out whether to do that or not. Usually the parent has higher income and thus higher taxes and therefore is likely to save more in taxes by claiming you than you will save in taxes by claiming yourself.

But, again, if they didn't meet that threshold, then they shouldn't be claiming you at all, and if you file a 1040, you can amend those to claim yourself (NOTE: I am not saying that you should do this nor recommending any course of action).

Don't worry there won't be a second check.

But you have to have filed taxes in the previous year basically, even if it was under the taxable income limit.

Bets on what's the scummiest way they can spin this and stop this.

How about 'Bernie is being authoritarian, like Stalin, by forcing his will on other senators'. Then dems and republicans come together with the power of bipartisanship (dudes rock). They just ignore Sanders and fly home, for democracy and for the baby Jesus.

Saying "at least 1200" is more effective I think. Talking about a higher amount turns it into an argument over VUVUZELA IPHONE, but we already had a 1200 check so people see it as possible.

And yes, people are that dumb, they can believe 1300 is impossible while 1200 is possible

That's a good point too. It's just looking like they'll give pennies - whether it's short or long term. Securing the precedent is the only thing I hope for - unless there's another protest movement to force them to do better.

It’s reaching the vital “stable” areas like the suburbs now. If those places start to get spooked and worried that’s their main source of capital. If people don’t have homes they don’t have jobs and then they don’t work and so the middle managers and the the small busines die. Then they are gonna demand support.

Just like how no one cared about opium till it hit those areas they will step in when they fear the class consciousness starts growing between the middle class and the lower class
