Used to bust my ass at this warehouse job for $9hr. I genuinely liked physical labor and putting in earbuds and lifting shit to music is very zen.

Got pulled aside by the owner one day and was told I make everyone uncomfortable because I never speak to anyone and I just "go right to work without saying hello like you don't have a care in the world." (This was a small business and I was the only employee that did physical labor and worked in the warehouse alone. Everyone else worked in the front.)

I literally cut my work in half after that. Would go to work and just sleep in the bathroom. Kept that up until I got my last check and just stopped showing up.

Never give 100%. Your normal performance should be 50% so if there's ever a crisis you only need to go up to 60%. I used to work in a warehouse with like 5 people and we would fuck around so much. Sleeping on piles of cardboard, box jumps onto stacks of pallets. The best part was the warehouse manager really just didn't care. He would often be the impetus behind slacking off like one time he said, "I bet you can't beat the forklift in a race across the warehouse." and we stopped working for 20-30 minutes to do a few time trials (I won).

Work can be really fun, especially if it’s something you are really interested in, or have the right people with you. What’s not fun is subsistence wages.

Even uninteresting physical jobs can be fun if its every so often. I used to love zoning out and washing the chromatography glassware when I was a lab tech.

My parents instilled a good work ethic into me from a young age. And every job I’ve worked I always end up caring too much. I like to work hard but I always have to remind myself to ease up.

I was like this my first job. I came in early, they made me stay an hour late every day. I did every extra duty available and came in most off days. They gave me a $.06 raise which is the minimum they can give. I was a bit jaded after that

Yep, you eventually convince yourself you can’t give a shit and look elsewhere.

People at my job are insane. We're paid less than $13/hr and some guy here was bragging about working 17 days in a row, another one for 31. We're fucking wagies earning insanely little but it's like a competition to piss away more of your life for a meager salary and I'm given passive aggressive texts whenever I stick to having my day off when I'm called on my way home from a 12 hour shift to go in on the only day they have me scheduled off that week.

It's not even that I have a life, it's that I don't want my life to be this shitty fucking job.

The people who brag about how much they work are people I never want to talk to. They are almost always insufferable. Like dude, I don't care you slept "only 4 hours" last night, you said the same thing the day before, and the day before that, and the day before that. shut up

I don’t care you slept “only 4 hours” last night

This is one thing I could always "flex" on them bc I have a sleep disorder and so I would just pull the oh I haven't slept in 3 days

I knew a guy who pulled a few 20 hour shifts. Another dude I worked with slept on his off days, because he was in community college finishing up his associates and he was terrified of going into debt when he went to university. His days were class from 9AM-1PM, Homework from 1PM-4PM, our job from 4PM-11PM, ??? from 11PM-2AM, and Fedex from 2AM-9AM

Does anyone else find these people to also be the fucking worst people to work with also? I am all for slacking off at work, as long as your slacking off doesn't result in also fucking over your coworkers. I work in healthcare so like, our work is actually important and the ones who brag about working 15 days in a row and pick up every open shift are always the ones casually browsing Facebook while shit is going down. Like they are fucking blessing everyone by showing up for 80 hours a week so they can just kick back. And they're right cuz managers always fucking love them too.

I loved doing inventory (which people hated) because I never had to interact with anyone for the whole shift. Ruled

I told the two managers that did my interview that I'm ready to lay my ass on the line for this here minimum wage job. Told them give me 40-50 hours a week boss, just give me employment. Every now and then like today, I get a call on the weekend from my manager that I just ignore. He's trying to get me to work OT but fuck all that shit. I could do with the money but I could also do with my sanity. I'm lucky as fuck I got section 8 or else I'd be fucked

The worst part is that the work itself in inconsistent. Some days I'm hauling ass to do what seems like 2 days of work in 1 day, and other days it's 1 to 1. They don't give you fair warning - they just tell you to expect anything. You show up in the morning and get fucked.

the absolute best job i worked for was at a Frozen Yogurt shop right after high school. I somehow became manager within like 4 months, wrote my own schedule, worked however much i wanted (with a min of like 25 hour work week) and my boss was super chill. He was like 32 (part owner) and use to take me out to San Francisco like every couple of weeks to hit the bars and he knew the bouncers so I never got ID'd. Fucking loved that job so much. Plus the tips were solid because I was always so cheerful to customers cause I legit liked what I did back then. So little stress

Every job I've ever had where anyone ever screamed at me for not working hard enough was after about two weeks of working at max intensity because we were understaffed.

Yup. Realized this with my first job making minimum wage. The managers are going to degrade me and not pay me. Yeah I ain’t working for shit.

Yup. First job I had was in a grocery store. Our direct supervisor was a good dude, but the store managers were just micromanaging jerk offs. We once had one of them tell us to move a display to one place in the morning, than the other one told us to move it someplace else later that same day.

First manager also gave us a spiel about how if she went into a McDonalds 1 minute before close, she expected great service. Needless to say, we fucked around as much as possible after that remark

Man my workspace was 3 years out of a collective agreement, my union flustered a 2 year (so still out one year now) agreement with below inflation raise. My back pay is probably a year out and the workplaces only repercussion for missing a 6 month deadline is $500.

I use to go into Whole Foods blazed out of my fucking mind every single day and I got employee of the month one time. I'd go into the walk in freezer and hit the vape at least once every hour, no one knew besides the chill co-worker. All you gotta do is pretend a little bit in front of the right people and be cool with nice customers (since it works both ways.) I hated that job though, always understaffed, constant issues with workload balancing due to their lack of hiring and of course management didn't give a fuck what the night crew did and never prepped stuff for me in the morning so i was always behind setting up the counter. But weed helped me so much to not stress over the small stuffs, but every now and then it was unavoidable. Also: fuck whole foods and fuck john mackey
