As I lie down on the street (you need to pay $4 a minute to temporarily disable the bench spikes) , homeless, starving, and infected with coronavirus (which never went away even after killing half the country), I mutter to myself: "maybe this communism thing is good". A passerby overhears me. He yells out: "Yo! Hobo dude!" I look up, it is a pig dressed in a stupid fucking vest a cravat and a tophat.

He comes over to me, and, squatting, tells me: "basic economics iphone vuvuzela stalin china 100 billion trillion gazillion dead! If you hate capitalism so much, how do you explain your continued existence?"

I am defeated. It looks like electoralism is the only option after all.

The next day, I walk five miles to my nearest polling place, a dilapidated gym, to cast my vote for bernie, now 102 years old. As I approach the entrance (after climbing a crumbling staircase), I am stopped. A suburban looking woman approaches me. She asks me for my ID. I couldn't afford to renew mine, so I show her my driver's license that expired 10 years ago. She takes one look at it, tosses it to the ground, slaps me, grabs me by the jacket, and throws me down the stairs. As I struggle to pick myself off the ground, she yells at me to never show my face again.

Oh well, better luck next time.

Ngl, this is the most likely avenue of revolution in america I've seen in my lifetime. Like, if it really does play out that way, with millions actually on the street, and all of those investment properties are just sitting empty... I dunno, I can imagine shit getting really real, really fast

Ya it’s true, america isn’t ready. Even as I wrote it, I pictured the armies of chuds that are a thousand times more prepared to rebel, and for what? Rebels without a cause.

Luckily I’m not american, so I don’t have to personally deal with the absolute shitshow happening there. But what you said applies globally: the left needs to organize and activate, and grow. This disorganized apathy will simply not do. Any real, live form of organizing helps the whole movement, so pitter patter let’s get at ‘er

Ah yes, the old american tradition of ‘too big to fail’ haha ;)

I largely agree though. I don’t think ‘collapse’ is very likely, and I definitely don’t think it’s desirable.

The shock doctrine is that, basically, in time of crisis/societal reorganization, people pick up whatever ideas that are lying around. Lately, that's been almost exclusively neoliberalism, with the odd dash of fascism. But it doesn't need to be. In fact, it needs to not be. Everything we can do to maintain leftist ideas, to propagate them and normalize them, every little bit helps so that we're ready, like you say, for the next time opportunity inevitably knocks.

I'll only add that, as we all know, that can happen faster than we sometimes think, and it can be impossible to predict. After all, Lenin famously didn't predict revolution in his lifetime. We should all be ready, always, and always be organizing as if our time is right around the corner :red-fist:

People will freeze in fear and despair, and take whatever hand is dealt them.

This is the sad truth. This is what people do in crisis. And you're right, that's why the bourgeoisie have such an easy time with the shock doctrine.

It's also why I generally tend away from accelerationist thinking. Things 'getting worse' just looks like the very bleak, and very likely picture you just illustrated.

Of course I'd love to see americans revolt and mass squat, but likely they'll do all the more sensible things you talk about here to maintain the tiny shred of security they have.

We need to actually kill these fucking ghouls, dude. They've been complicit in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of our people's lives, it's about time we return the favor.

Maybe when we have actually millions of homeless people we can start making some noise.
