as a spice aficionado, totally agreed with regards to capsaicin-related actual burny-burny spiciness, like it sucks for you if you can't tolerate it but it's not like that's a personal failing. If by spice you mean seasonings, though, that's a totally valid criticism of white people food (i.e. blandness). Like is it possible to cook something so properly that the flavors of the base food stand on its own? Varying degrees of yes. Would it be improved if you put like, even a single herb on it? Always
idk I kinda like very plain food sometimes. Even when the food itself isn't particularly flavorful or nice, I like very simple meals a lot of the time.
Pretending his hog reduction surgery was a heart attack was a bad move electorally for Bernie.
There is actual substance to “Russiagate” despite that fact that the neoliberal media hyped it up to an unimaginable extent. The Trump campaign did indeed act improperly.
No one thinks otherwise. It's just negligible interference compared to the influence of the neoliberal media itself.
Perhaps I'm wrong, but I like to believe that this isn't an unpopular opinion here, at the the very least.
How do you feel about people who are totally turned off by a certain set of genitals?
I know gay men who try to pull this shit and the second they see a hot trans man they forget all about their genital obsession and dive right in. I think it's possible, but so exceedingly rare as to be an edge case.
Whoa now hold on buddy. That’s a ban-worthy offense right there. I’m gonna have to write you up.
The adults had it coming. Can't really argue children who had no choice to be born into that system and position deserved death.
Not a lot of other options, monarchists would have banded behind them and propped them up as the rightful rulers no matter how old they were
The kids had to be killed because monarchists will take whatever inbred next of kin who exists and call them the new king. Gotta pull the weed out by the root. This is more to blame on monarchists, I think, than people who had to do the killing.
Current Affairs is actually very good. NJR might be a sectarian clown with incoherent beliefs, but the journal itself isn't only him and it gives platform to very good writers, stellar articles, amazing illustrations. It promotes anti-capitalism, our common main goal, be you tankie, succdem or anarkiddie. As someone succinctly put on this very website - all flavours of leftists share 90% of the path and our opinions only diverge in the very end. Anti-capitalism and anti-imperialism should always go first. Current Affairs is anti-capitalist and anti-imperialist.
Current affairs is what started me on the track to leftism, so I’ll always have respect for them. And their reporting is always pretty damn objective imo. It can be a little succdem at times but in general I totally agree that it’s good.
We should critically reflect on the handling of slurs, rather than trying to knee-jerk impose the N-word model on every slur.
I like a tiered approach. Like personally I wouldn't mind some cishet person using some slurs i've been called in a neutral context, like some straight 3rd party saying "it's okay that crime calls herself a dyke because she's a lesbian and she's reclaiming it" or "last night someone called her a dyke so she punched them in the mouth". like if someone were to try to dance around saying the word it would almost be more uncomfortable imo, and like saying "the d-word", I wouldn't have any idea what that means. That's obviously not at all the case for the n-word.
Or like cishets using the phrase "the queer community", totally fine in my book (or like, saying "oh yeah, they're queer", provided the person in question identifies that way) vs like calling someone a queer.
Yeah, this is the sort of thing I was angling at.
Using slurs in a dehumanising way is obviously never good, and should be combatted.
The question is whether the model for the N word (where it becomes taboo to even use the word) is preferable to reclamation, de-stigmatisation, or disassociation.
‘Idiot’ and ‘moron’ are good examples of that latter model. They’ve been thoroughly de-stigmatised, to the point where if you directed them at someone with a learning disorder, it wouldn’t even make sense.
On the other hand, banning entire words is a pretty good way of signalling society-wide that certain approaches and views aren’t acceptable.
I don’t have strong views one way or another here. I’d just like to see this discussed in left spaces from a strategic perspective, as usually when it’s discussed outside of left spaces it becomes a shitshow of litigating the basic existence of the targets.

I'm not really here to dive into a conversation, I just wanted to point out that I think this is wildly far from the truth. Not to say anything of your over-arching thought here or anything o7
yeah I guess "tiered" isn't really the right phrasing so much as "nuanced" — I'm totally with you, there's no sense in keeping a strict ranking or whatever about which is worse. Mainly that context matters and blanket bans of most slurs aren't necessary (the main glaring exception obviously being the n-word)
Militarism is good, and if the left wants to win it should become familiar with it again.
Also sausage biscuits. Once I figured that one out I never went back. It makes sense, since hot dogs are basically sausages too.
Yellow mustard is the only good mustard. That brown stuff may be the "original," but it was only used because they didn't have capsaicin, which is the only good spicy. Fuck that nose burn shit, gimme my smooth mellow yellow mustard. If I want a good burn from my food, I don't want it in my nasal mucous membranes.
Your arguments boil down to reactionary dreams of an imagined mustard past, a stone-ground ideal, yet fail to mention taste even once. You drown in grey poupon propaganda, associating mustard choice as a simulacrum of refinement. You name-drop Baudrillard yet fail to realize that it is YOU who is using mustard as a building block of your own personality.
capsaicin, which is the only good spicy
someone pepper-spray this revisionist until he begs for wasabi
okay maybe im bad at reading comprehension but at least im not using ableist slurs like calling me a petard smh
capsaicin, which is the only good spicy
this is mala erasure, gimme that hydroxy-alpha sanshool
The biggest mistake of American cheese is calling it cheese. When you realize what it actually is, a perfectly textured cheese sauce that has been stabilized as to not break or get greasy, formed into a slice-able form factor for ease of deployment, I don't think there is really much to fight about.
Many of the BLM protests have spiraled for the most part to pure revolutionary adventurism and though socialist parties should still engage in the BLM and anti-settler project, awkwardly fighting cops in the street with our current level of organization, or worse providing cover for lumpen and radlibs to violently vent without any organization, is detrimental to the socialist project as a whole. We need to organize and direct the discontent and rage, not merely express it. By way of analogy, without the organization to back up the pressure of the protests, its like one unarmed guy trying to bash down someone's door and at the same time trying to text and wake up the rest of his friends to help, but while that is happening there are twenty people inside with shotguns trying to decide whether to shoot him now or later.
I don't think people are going out there just to fight cops except for the first few nights after a murder when it's still viable.
Most of what I've seen has been regular protest paired with institutional pressure and lobbying.
I think our main material interventions should be arming ourselves, building logistical capacity (medic collectives, food distros, war chests, jail support orgs, etc.) Which is exactly what I've seen anarchists doing.
Film, television, and literature is becoming too proscriptive and overly concerned with appropriate morality rather than presenting interesting and realistic character psychology. A good story requires nuance and that's getting lost in a society that's undergone rapid social change in the past decade.
No, you hold that ice cold glass in your hand for hours on end like a man.
Don't you just hate it when it gets stuck in the sewer drain after flushing?
