Sputnik 1 was the first artificial Earth satellite. It was launched into an elliptical low Earth orbit by the USSR on 4 October 1957 as part of the Soviet space program. It orbited for three weeks before its batteries died and then orbited silently for two months before it fell back into the atmosphere on 4 January 1958.

It was a polished metal sphere 58 cm (23 in) in diameter with four external radio antennas to broadcast radio pulses. Its radio signal was easily detectable by radio amateurs, and the 65° orbital inclination and duration of its orbit made its flight path cover virtually the entire inhabited Earth.

The satellite's unanticipated success precipitated the American Sputnik crisis and triggered the Space Race, part of the Cold War. The launch was the beginning of a new era of political, military, technological and scientific developments. The word "sputnik" is Russian for satellite when interpreted in an astronomical context; its other meanings are spouse or traveling companion.

Tracking and studying Sputnik 1 from Earth provided scientists with valuable information. The density of the upper atmosphere could be deduced from its drag on the orbit, and the propagation of its radio signals gave data about the ionosphere.

Sputnik 1 was launched during the International Geophysical Year from Site No.1/5, at the 5th Tyuratam range, in Kazakh SSR (now known as the Baikonur Cosmodrome). The satellite travelled at a peak speed of about 8 km/s (18,000 mph), taking 96.20 minutes to complete each orbit. It transmitted on 20.005 and 40.002 MHz, which were monitored by radio operators throughout the world. The signals continued for 21 days until the transmitter batteries ran out on 26 October 1957. Sputnik 1 burned up on 4 January 1958 while reentering Earth's atmosphere, after three months, 1,440 completed orbits of the Earth, and a distance travelled of about 7.0×107 km (4.3×107 mi).

So a couple of winners for last friday's one. Everyone :rat-salute: comrades @SteamedHamberder, @XiJinpingOfficial, @femboi, and @LeninWeave for getting the answer.

Previous answer

18 x 4.5 = 81

More reasoning with out equations

The product of four consecutive integers is 3,024. What are the integers?

  • None of the four integers is 10. (Or the product would end in 0.)
  • At least one integer is less than 10. (Or the product would have at least five digits.)
  • Then all four integers are less than 10.
  • none of the four integers is 5. (Or the product would end in 5 or 0.)

Complete the solution.

Like usual good luck :soviet-heart: and remember to dm @Wmill the answer.

The comparisons of China to Nazi Germany are so fucking disgusting. I genuinely think most people are so politically/historically ignorant and illiterate that they don't realize how destructive Nazism is as an ideology. I mean you can fucking read the violent sickos like Lenin, Stalin, Mao and then compare it to nice, peaceful, respectable people like Hitler, Mussolini, Richard Spencer, fucking shit like Harassment Architecture or the Turner Diaries and see the difference between the two.

They're all explicit about their end goal being extermination of lesser races, and what's more is that a lot of their analysis has no material basis. When all your critiques of the world are based on ephemeral, non quantifiable things such as Aryan morality or a "loss of values" it's very hard for me to see how they wouldn't immediately abandon the majority of their promises for a better, more equitable society. When Ukraine underwent a Nazi coup the first fucking thing they did was take in a shitload of IMF loans....like what.

Drove down an eight lane stroad in the worst kind of sprawl lined with the most generic trashy stores and vile chain restaurants. Like do people seriously like living like this? They like driving a pollution machine on dangerous roads from their cookie cutter house to eat fried meat glop in various shapes after spending all week driving the pollution machine to work at their shitty job? Drive a truck so you can feel better about your fragile masculinity and take your shitty overpriced camper to a glorified parking lot or go murder some wildlife.

twitter is fucking unusable anymore. If a tweet has like 240 replies, it only loads the first 6 replies. Then it puts up some bullshit "HERE'S SOME OTHER TOTALLY UNRELATED TWEETS YOU MAY LIKE". In order to read more of the original conversation, I have to click 'load more tweets' but it only loads like 4 tweets at a time.

I'm so tired of this gamified attention hacking bullshit. "Oh, we have this person's attention! Let's shovel some bullshit in their face!"

Most of what I do on :reddit-logo: at this point is post agitprop and bait, but some chud interpreted some of it as genuine and invited me to his private 'good-faith' debate subreddit. It's got less than 1000 users, and as far as I can tell, no comrades.

Anyway, I think this is a hilarious opportunity to clown around. Anyone got any topics I should post? So far I'm thinking:

    • Capitalism is not equipped to handle climate change.

    • If you value democracy you should also value democracy in the workplace - Unions are good, actually.

    • Poor Americans dying due to lack of food/housing/healthcare is a form of systemic violence, and violence can be justified in order to correct the situation.

    • Just post about the Labor Theory of Value and explain what it actually is to people.

    Give me your suggestions!

How out-of-touch do you have to be to not realize how utterly fucked the market (TM) is? Housing prices are through the roof, used cars are APPRECIATING in value, pokemon cards are traded like gold, bitcoin is at 40K and has been at that exorbitant price for months, minimum wage is still 7.25, and that's just off the top of my head

    Like holy shit dude
