Really drives home how Americans are completely stuck on "two" party politics. Policy doesn't matter it's just who's implementing it.

garrison's political development is really a great cautionary tale. he used to criticize the "two party duopoly" from a right wing conspiracy theorist perspective, but then right wing conspiracy theorists became the Republican party (again. cf. John Birch) and now he's another cheerleader for the system

Oscillates between it was a good thing he did it and the deep state forced him to do it (which defiantly doesn't make Trump seem like he can stand up to the Deep State).

To be fair it was probably John Bolton's idea and Trump just didn't give a shit one way or the other

He still did it though and it really doesn't matter which genocidal racist old man wins

It's for the American Kamikaze Corps. Enough US planes fall out of the sky anyway, may as well pretend it's intentional.

The cartoon isn't wrong, but didn't his boy Trump bomb an Iranian official in Iraq? Seems a bit hypocritical to not call that out as well.

Let me walk you through Ben's logic, it's a bit complicated so bear with me:

Everything the democrats do is evil.

Everything the republicans do is good.

Not only did he assassinate one of Iran's top generals while he was in Iraq, our nominal ally, on invitation from their government (forget why exactly he was there) without telling Iraq any of this was going to happen, but he was also fully ready to go to war with Iran and had to be talked down by his generals. That was how 2020 started, although it very quickly got overshadowed by other world events. But I remember the chapo boys saying "this is one of those events where in a decade documents will get declassified and we'll see how close we were to starting WW3 in January 2020."

It's weird when he still maintains the vestigial traces of libertarianism. Hell, ben, might as well just want the place nuked and turned into a parking lot at this point.

This is the most infuriating thing to me, all these goddamn hogs with their brains drooling out their ears going "Biden's horrible he wants to bomb Iran!" TRUMP FUCKING ASSASSINATED SOLEIMANI IN COLD BLOOD I ARGUED WITH THESE SAME PEOPLE IN 2020 WHEN THEY WANTED TO GO TO WAR WITH IRAN AND LEVEL THE FUCKING COUNTRY NOW THEY TURN AROUND AND ACT LIKE THEY WERE AGAINST IT THE WHOLE TIME not that I should expect any logical consistency from the dumbest fucking people alive, nor should expect them to remember anything prior to March 2020, nor should I expect them to be unaware of the absurdity of these arguments, being as this is just blatant opportunistic propaganda, but seeing the just naked contrarianism of the same people who argued FOR assassinating Soleimani in 2020, arguing it was a good thing, arguing we should have gone further, acting like they have ever in the span of their useless pitiful lives been against going to war with Iran is fucking disgusting. I mean the dude they want to install in office is literally the same guy who had us on the brink of war and had to be talked down by his generals. Yet they're against Biden bombing, as I understand it not even Iran (yet)? Just amazing.

I feel like the Matt SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP thing, and honestly what should I expect from these people right? But like I can remember, I mean one the biggest events just before Covid was Trump assassinating Soleimani. And it's not even like some smug "oh your guy actually attacked Iran first." The same people in my life who were like "oh that was actually cool and good" have now adopted some principled anti-war stance? Even though it's not like any of their positions have actually changed, since they still want the guy who murdered Soleimani back in office. Fucking dumbasses.

Don’t expect consistency from these folks. Words are for wielding power, not for communication. Requisite Sartre quote.

Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past.

Democrats are also surprisingly inconsistent when the White House changes parties. For some reason AOC isn’t crying at US concentration camps anymore.

no I mean true but I don't see what that has to with this above? Leftist rhetoric has shown itself to be popular these days, so they're all using leftist rhetoric while going about business as usual. When Trump was in power we had the #resistance and a bunch of leftists thought hey maybe we can push the dems left, now we have the GOP branding themselves as antiwar and working class and some leftists think that this nominal turn can somehow be turned to communism. The hypocrisy should be called out.

They are different kinds of hypocrisies. When you call liberal hypocrisy out, they will sometimes actually care. But reactionaries usually DGAF if you call them out, and often get off on owning the libs in this way.

You’re right, though, that the radlibs who think they can ally with the disingenuous reactionary “doves” are a confused lot.
Case in point: WSWS, Feb. 2023: The “Rage Against the War Machine” rally: A reactionary political freak show

[Chris] Hedges, along with Max Blumenthal of the Grayzone, Jill Stein of the Green Party, and comedian Jimmy Dore and a few others were there to give a progressive gloss to the “left-right” coalition and legitimize the extreme right. Their principal message was that unity with the fascistic right was permissible and should be actively pursued. Those who oppose collaboration with the right are viewed as political enemies.

I love how the plane vaguely looks like the SBD Dauntless because Ben's boomer brain probably thinks we still fly them.

No shade to the Dauntless, BTW. They put a lot of Imperial Japanese in very watery graves.
