Is it? Seems like a lot of words to say, "Mao was right". Western Marxists approach Marxism from a place of moral imperative, not material conditions because our material conditions, while not great compared to the 1%, are vastly superior to those of people in the global south. I don't think it has much, if anything, to do with Christianity. Also, accusations of "centrally planned capitalism" against China are coming as much from Chinese youth as they are from western Marxists.

I don’t understand how this is your assessment of what Beau’s saying. Is it incorrect to say that occupations are more drawn-out operations? If not, then the idea that Ukraine should have just done nothing is inaccurate. He’s trying to argue that Russian occupation would have been worse for the people of these countries.

damn color me surprised that a guy from the south, more militaristic than usual in america, can have culturally ingrained bad takes

though hes probably not cia. the guy has felony convictions for getting fraudulent visas for illegal immigrants so they could get paid more reasonable wages

I just hate anything that tries to be self-serious but is primarily riffing. Love stuff like citations needed, American prestige, and RWN because they're very content or history focused, they're self-serious but they take the content seriously. Love stuff like chapo, pod damn America and stuff because they're riffing, but they're really comedy first. Trying to be taken very seriously but just sort of making it up on the spot is just not particularly enjoyable. It's both less entertaining and less informative than either format, and at that point why bother.

His whole shtick is to appear chud-friendly on an aesthetic and vocabulary level, while telling people to do an anarcho-communism. I'd assume a lot of his subscribers are chuds who fell for it. Never been a fan of his, but I respect what he's doing if it's working.

That said, I've never been a fan of his, so maybe he has a bunch of dogshit takes, I dunno. This one sure is. (Then again, every person has dogshit takes, and hexbear needs to get over thinking that random e-celebs are going to be any different.)

The Mujahideen, but the Taliban grew out of the Mujahideen. I see the distinction because the US directly backed the Mujahideen while the US decidedly did not back the Taliban. Their intervention was responsible for the Taliban existing, but direct support is not the same as blowback

People are getting bused from Mariupol (willingly) because it's a fucking mess. People can stay but very few people choose to because there's a better option waiting for them and transportation is being offered straight to it. Nothing sinister about that and there's definitely no ethnic component, non-russians in the area have been treated like shit by Ukraine too they hate them, the Greek diaspora which represents like 20% of the population in the area in and around Mariupol had entire villages erased and were constantly harassed.

I think he’s finally noticed the amount of revolutionary leftists who follow him and sees us as reveling too much in the concept of violent revolution. There’s definitely been a few videos where the libs assumed he was talking about Republicans but some people asked if he was talking about leftists. No clear response on that, so I think he knew what he was doing.

I had a chat with him a while back when Palestine was in the news and basically what he told me was that he tries really hard not to trigger cognitive dissonance in his audience which includes a whole lot of people across the political spectrum. That more radical people will call him out or dismiss him on certain things and that he doesn't care because most of what he's doing isn't talking to them. He's trying to resuscitate basic critical thinking that is all but dead in American politics.

Do I agree with that tactic? IDK it's worth a shot I guess.

Do I think he could go a lot harder given his cred with libs and maybe even some chuds? Yes.

I think leftists here tend to forget that the point of a pipeline is to funnel people slowly. We are at our various places along the pipeline, with our different perspectives now that we've gotten here. So of course we will notice when someone closer to the entrance has a bad or milquetoast take.

It's easy to forget that the average American has about 17 inches of anticommunist social programming protecting their brains. You have to ease folks in slowly.

I think we also forget that these videos are not entertainment, and aren't for us anymore. So it's perfectly fine to outgrow someone like Beau, and I bet he'd be happy that we did.

Vague illusions to being some kind of "private military" contractor at some point in his past. He does some kinda journalism stuff so maybe he's got enough contacts that he chats with on the regular about these kinds of things.

The full quote is, “There wasn’t a major power supply the Afghans with high-tech equipment. They just had the will to fight. And because of that, it kept going and going and going.”

This is accurate in context. There’s no comparison between the equipment being given to Ukraine by the west and the equipment given to the Mujahideen. You can say he’s talking about the Taliban and that China or Russia supporting the Taliban, but you would be directly citing US intelligence to do so.

This is accurate, but I do actually believe that Beau was talking about the US occupation. It’s the war that his audience would be most familiar with (largely American and skews younger) and it’s also the time period where the US was decidedly not giving aid to the Taliban or any of their precedents

They were definitely hyped up as high-tech weapons in the western press back then. I remember reading articles as a kid how the wholesome mujahedeen fought off soviet gunships thanks to the advanced targeting system. No idea how true that was, given that such articles are practically written by the IMC's PR department and always show everything as the next Wunderwaffe, but it was common knowledge in the West that post-invasion, the USA was arming the jihadists in Afghanistan with SAMs.

Yeah that’s been pointed out. That’s why I crossed that bit out. I was trying to say that, after the US stopped funding the Mujahideen, their access to modern weaponry would have stopped, which wouldn’t make them comparable to modern “military aid”. But then I realized everyone was just assuming he was talking about the Soviet-Afghan War in the first place, so it wasn’t relevant.
