I don't listen to much Punk (I've always been more of a reggae dude) but you couldn't be more correct in that it's impossible to distill 40 plus years of music into one band. Also, even if you don't like Punk the impact it had in the post punk world is undeniable. New Wave, Goth, Industrial, Electronic Dance, and New Romantic were all directly birthed from the Punk movement. Previous generation styles like Ska, Rockabilly and Folk were also revitalized by adding elements of Punk either musically or just in ethos (though some could debate this was de-evolution like in the case of 3rd Wave Ska which often is just Punk with Horns).
Anyhow, I urge everyone to listen to London Calling all the way through before closing your minds to what a Punk band could acheive sonically. Or just listen to Youth Brigade and realize that the same shit people are bitching about now (cops beating on people, fascism, dystopian future) were pretty well covered 40 years ago.

It is a bad take. Maybe one of the worst I have ever seen ever. What punk music have you been recommended before, and what sort of music do you like regularly? Its a very broad genre and we can probably find something there aligned with your tastes, even if you hate guitars, or fast music.

I think I'm forgetting like 10 other bands I listen to, but I don't follow english bands as much. I have 10 more singing in German I could recommend, but currently I'm more into folk punk when it comes to english.

I'm not really personally a fan of a lot of punk rock, but Nomeansno and Propaghandi are pretty awesome (and their politics seems to have remained good), even if neither is really a "pure" punk group
also I'd be pretty bummed if we never got post-punk bands like Talking Heads and the Cure, and all of the genre's derivatives
Maybe punk as a genre is like Dadaism. It might be useful in challenging what is considered "art" but beyond that... there's not much else behind it.

The higher minded punx may be influenced by Dada but there’s also just a lot of dumb guys writing songs about some goth lady they have a crush on and the cool thing about punk is it’s all equally valid.

Punk is reactionary by nature. It basically started because a bunch of pissed off teens didn't have the attention span for prog rock, and formed a reactionary kind of music based on that.
I'm not saying that somewhere out there, there isn't a good punk band. I'm sure there is. I also dig the anti establishment angle of punk. But over all, it's not my thing.

Finding the roots of punk is like trying to herd cats. I am very into garage rock and Detroit rock, so I have an appreciation for the roots of punk. I don't know where they lose me, but where I pick it up again would make punk fans cringe. I like MXPX and old Green Day. That's kind of about it.

Thats because 'good punk rock' isnt easily accessibe, you wont find it on the radio or at virgin records or wherever else is selling popular CDs now, you have to actively seek it out. Theres tons of great punk bands both musically and lyrically. Heres some that verys from very hardcore/crust, to melodic.
