They (the tankies) were our allies during the Iraq War, so it may come as a shock seeing them become pathetic apologists for Vladimir Putin’s ambitions to reconstitute the Soviet empire.

    These comments holy shit :brainworms:

I’m a peace-loving antiwar old hippie gal (yeah, I like granola, ok?), but I see the need for a strong military (I’m from a total military family except for me, including half-bro/sis, mum, dad, cousins, grandparents on both sides).

The MIC is also the best rationale for just tax policy in the US

Sounds like complete bullshit this person tells themselves. An identity they've invented but don't actually have in any meaningful actual way.

Americans prefacing their bloodthirst is always funny to me. "Listen, I'm as leftist liberal as they come. I hug trees and I drive a Tesla. I was born with a birthmark shaped like Tom Perez. I eat extra vegan tofu. But we really gotta give cops more guns to defend American values."

Nice example of how hippie aesthetics is just that, aesthetics. If you're really generous to them hippies are maybe less openly racist and homophobic than average but that's about it. Smoking weed and eating granola does not turn you into a friend of the proletariat.

Because their activists are paid and funded part of the threat is that any increase in the number of tankies means that they need to increase the size of their paid for base of activists. If they don't, there is a real threat.

One of the key things we discuss behind the scenes over here in the UK is how Starmer showing up to a random town in the UK would get like 40-100 people turnout whereas we could send Corbyn literally anywhere in the UK and have thousands show up to hear him, that doesn't just happen because people like him, it happens because our local activists work their asses off.

A paid for base of activists is insignificant compared to an activated base of unpaid but ideologically dedicated people. They will work their asses off for no pay to make sure thousands turn out for Jez because people believe in him and it activates them.

This is a similar situation with the growing fear of tankies who will do the same thing when you activate them properly. Utterly dedicated people who will spend all day everyday on the cause when it's right. That costs the bougies billions to achieve with money and there's a real threat in it because it will cost them a fortune to fight or actually achieve something eventually.

It really depends on how much they pay staff to work on it. And that's the point, they have to pay staff to work on it or fuck all will show up.

Thousands will show up to Corbyn because people who do not have to be paid a penny will throw their heart and soul at it to make it happen.

This is the same problem the bougies face with the growing number of tankies. It costs them a fucking fortune to equal what we do for free. Every single new tankie created costs them more and more. Eventually there is also a point at which more money will not actually successfully counter us due to diminishing returns.

Tankie is already used widely online to the point libs are saying it now, which is probably the only audience for this piece: Libs mad at things they saw on twitter. That's all the article is about too.

i've also been wondering why terms like Stalinist or Leninist aren't thrown around as much anymore. Probably because they're too specific and are tied to very coherent political stances. Tankie already means anything, it doesn't matter where the term comes from. Tankie is when you say something I don't like.
