There's no harm in doing it, but also there's no harm in not doing it. Even the cleanest bathrooms are petri dishes, and toilets have gaps in between the lid and bowl where plenty of aerosolized nastiness is going to escape even when it's closed. The best thing you can do is wash your hands properly.

But yeah, arguing that it takes too much time is peak galaxy brain, like literally every other second of your day is perfectly productive.

I would say closing the lid is always good.

"Although there is a potential risk of aerosols spreading from toilet flushing and hand drying, we found no evidence of airborne transmission of intestinal or respiratory pathogens in public bathrooms in the literature we reviewed," Prof Donner says.

I'm not saying to stop doing it, but the presence of pathogens does not equal the spread of disease.

laterally. and 95% of that nastiness is just going to hit the lid.

As far as COVID goes, it can stay in the body for years after it's been cleared from the nose/throat, so now closing the lid is even more important

And don't keep your toothbrush within 6 feet of it.

Seems like a marketing gimmick that lid manufacturers made up so we don't realize that they're job is bullshit

This is something I love about my apartment, the bathroom in my bedroom is weird and the sink is out in the open of the room with a door leading to the toilet and shower, so my toothbrush has a door between it and the toilet

For me, I picked up the habit when I lived in college dorms to keep my toothbrush in my bedroom and just bring it to the bathroom with me when it's time to brush, and I haven't gotten rid of it after leaving college because eh, whatever.

toothbrushes in general seem pretty unclean to me. like i brush my teeth and wash it off and hope its clean enough next time i use it? i swap heads out on it regularly but like theres no way just cleaning it in toothpaste is actually getting rid of all the germs in it right

You gotta swirl it around in the dregs left in the cup of antibacterial mouthwash you use before brushing your teeth then blast it with the hottest tap water you can get from the faucet. It works trust me, it's science and has never steered me wrong

Same but I close it after. I dunno, it seems more hygienic for it to be down. I guess as a kid I had cats and dogs that would drink out of it but I don't anymore and that's just residual feelings.

i choose to believe in fostering a strong internal microbiome. i also can't stand most of the textures of cleaning things because of the 'tism, so it's also not my choice, which is neat.

i am an antigermphobe, germs fear me. still somehow haven't caught the fucking plague, so i must be doing something right in the long run i guess

Bro you can cultivate a strong internal microbiome without also having poop flake spray lol, just eat yogurt - unless you're vegan but if you are vegan, chances are your microbiome is better from all the fiber. It's fair that you have sensory issues with cleaning products but you still gotta maintain a level of cleanliness... whatever, sounds like your system is working for you, so who am I to judge.

my brother in christ, i'm not intentionally inhaling the poo mist or anything. i just think it's like...do people not realize that people are animals? we have mechanisms to not die from being in the vicinity of poop smell, y'know.

I got one of those slow-close lids and I now close it every time. I didn't use to.

I think the act of slowly letting down the lid annoyed me and I absolutely cannot stand the loud noise of accidentally letting the lid slam down.

now that i'm thinking about it, i've realize that i close my lid after the flush, but my toilet is prone to clogging so I have to keep an eye on it while it flushes.

:think-about-it: don't have to lift the seat if you sit down to pee. sitting is always preferable to standing.

yea but women's restrooms need a "clean the seat if you piss on it" sign as much as the men's tbh. upper class bitches can't let their asses share a seat with the plebs, apparently.
