Repairing Existing Public Land by Adding Necessary Trees Act, better known as the REPLANT Act

this backronym shit is insulting in a way that I can't articulate properly

It's very patronizing to think that people can only understand policy if the thing the policy does is the name of the policy

PATRIOT Act shit is a big reason it's hard to do any actual discourse on policy

That douche only planted like 5% of America's annual deforestation metric and called it a day. So just imagine that level of self aggrandizement on a national scale.

"Stalin also actively promoted forest environmentalism for the benefit of the state, establishing levels of protection unparalleled to anywhere in the world... Stalin's environmentalism policies codified into law an assumption that healthy land was forested and that deforestation represented serious environmental dangers to the state's larger project of modernization"

I see where your inspiration lies Mr Biden :stalin-approval:

I am for real curious how they'll fuck this one up. The goal is so small and realistic and within their means in every way that when they fuck this up - because no way does this end with the US actually planting a billion trees - it will probably be spectacular. My money is on them partnering with a logging company for this project and cutting down a forest to make room for the trees they're going to plant.

Also they don't tend to them afterwards and don't put them in actually important areas. Expanding wetlands, connecting different forests to greatly increase habitat range, ect. Planting trees in plains type areas with limited rainfall and water hardly sinks any carbon.

They also don't do the one thing that's needed, which is to reclaim land from private owners to give the forests room to grow. Planting trees is not the important part, they plant themselves when they have room. Planting trees is a product of needing to cram increasing amounts of trees into limited space. "Repairing Existing Public Land" is just a holding action if you aren't also appropriating new public land. Just like building more renewable energy doesn't mean shit if you aren't aggressively shutting down fossil fuel plants.

I think comrade QuillcrestFalconer has the right idea and they'll plant them all in the next area to get cleaned out by a wildfire

      Yeah exactly.

It sounds like they're just replanting trees for the logging industry. Ofc they won't be in any way protected so they'll get logged again in like 20 to 30 years
