Prob cuz of TikTok and Twitter. But I just can admit it, assuming they're not a MAGAt (which we should always avoid).

Kinda? My immediate friends are either anti-capitalist in some way (with a bit of ignorance of history and general political apathy) or "good libs" (working on it). But I dont just say "communist" when people ask about my politics, I usually lead with "left" and then quickly sum up anticapitalism+economic democracy+environmental issues.

Class divide is real tho, some visibly recoil once you push the discussion left enough.

Oh. How big are leftist movements? In US, most of the youth tend to have some aanti-cap stances, especially the ones on Twitter and TikTok

Forgive me for being too paranoid on the internet, smh. But yeah, it's huge. I don't want to give (westerners) the idea that it's one small chunk with a few thousand people. That's how they justify exploiting us.

it's mostly because i'd expect many more bolivians/venezuelans to be leftists than brazilians and colombians, for instance

You have to take in consideration the spaces you interact with. Bolivian and Venezuelan comrades exist in big numbers, so do the gusanos. And in these two countries there is a lot of violence against leftists. Avoid rich white Catholic Latines at all cost.

oh i'm brazilian so i'm aware of that

though i'd say brazilian catholics aren't as bad as the evangelicals (still terrible, but we got some good, reasonably prominent examples for caths, whereas the number for evangelicals is basically 0)

Leftist? It depends on what you mean by leftist. Communist movements and organizations are tiny. Real anticapitalist leftist movements have been replaced by populist center-left politics. Indigenous, feminist and LGBT activism also face a lot of backlash.

same in my experience. being rabidly anti-blairite and salty at labour for being too lib is just kind of expected by/of people under about 30. I don't really like generational analysis, but we all feel betrayed, and that's starting to have results.

There's definitely a consensus that Labour is just shit now, even my lib friends don't like Sir Starmer

Yeah I remember Labour significantly leading among young people. Do you believe it's more popular in Scotland? Ans if it exits UK, could there be a major leftist party?

I think Scotland is probably more left than the rest of the UK so that's definitely a possibility. The main concern I've heard about Scotland is that it wouldn't be able to sustain itself, but that's from libs so take it with more than a pinch of salt

almost 60% for those who vote democratic, and i expect it will only go up as more zoomers turn 18. capitalism dropped 9 points from 2016 to 2018. i hope they do a 2020 poll.

I told a coworker I was a communist when she asked if I voted Tory. She reacted indifferently and told me she once lived in one of those communes in California that ended up being a sex cult.

Prob cuz of TikTok and Twitter.

Idealistic liberals literally think culture is more important than the actual material conditions that affect people's lives.

Do you think there isn't a dialectic between the base and superstructure? Communist propaganda or memes have been upsurging because of material conditions, the propaganda then reaches people who realize the decline in conditions but have no idea what to do about it. Then they make more propaganda etc. I feel like I see this half-assed materialism on here a lot from people just looking to be smug. Culture fucking matters.

The real thing from there though is dissociating communism from just memes. Lots of people like the memes, but tell them you want a communist society when theyll respond that "communism is a meme"
