I hate Kissinger. I've told this story before so I apologize for being a broken record but my aunt is Cambodian and only survived the Khmer Rouge because her father starved himself to death so she could eat. She was liberated by the Vietnamese. She used to pray she could have children but because of that malnutrition as a girl she was permanently infertile. It's amazing how sweet she is despite that incredible degree of trauma. So my hatred of Kissinger is kinda personal.

I think it's only because Kissinger was one of the architects of modern China-US diplomacy. Kissinger is regarded with a weirdly high amount of praise in China currently, but that praise seems to be limited to his advocacy for the Chinese-American relationship. I don't know how the average Chinese person feels about his role in the Vietnam war or Cambodia.
