All over the country, in cities big and small, police departments are recruiting tiny fractions of what they used to be able to. Cleveland's graduating class from police academy this year was 9 piglets. In 2000, they had 87. Similar drops are happening all over the country. Cities may be refusing to defund, but their PDs are shrinking anyways because the vast majority of people have realized that cops are basically evil.

Yeah, I said this sth related to this recently in a different thread. The protests have not brought material or legislative change, but they've shifted public opinion.

Uvalde also did a lot for this, I think. Cops are viewed more negatively and not trusted. Everyone saw basically an entire police department sit on their asses while children were massacred within hearing distance.

I would argue that, rather than people thinking "I don't want to be a cop because I realized cops are evil", for a lot of people who would've otherwise become one it's more like "I don't want to be a cop because people don't like cops".

Edit: Uvalde really was a catastrophe for the cops. It was a horrific atrocity, the worst thing imaginable, and completely stoppable. Everyone heard about it, everyone saw it, even the chuds had to condemn the police because of how indefensible it was. And it wasn't just one cop, it was basically an entire battalion. It will be brought up every single time some bootlicker calls cops "brave".

I think a lot of specific types of guy have been caught in their lie that they'd rush in to stop an active shooter. Now they've got plenty of potential mass shootings to stop, like 3 a day, but if they became pigs they'd have to uphold their own bullshit lies. And they're not willing, because they're cowards

Knew a ftm guy that swapped out of policing when the protests happened and noticing that too many people in policing were bigoted as hell. That said the police academy in my hellhole of america is graduating like 60 cops this year

I wonder if they'll copy what happened to the american military over the past 20ish years and shift away from larger numbers of "regular" cops and towards smaller numbers of better armed and equipped "special forces" cops supported by drones and other tech. Less "boots on the ground" and more "surveilling cities with drones" with followup swat raids. I know it's already happening to a certain extent but I wonder if the lack of recruits will exacerbate it

Other option could be recruiting people from abroad to do law enforcement. Historically, many regimes have used "foreigners" for security purposes because they don't have local loyalties or attachments to the population.

That said, this option probably won't happen in the US because of us-foreign-policy

Wars are great at radicalizing people, and azov had a head start even before the war with their "summer camps" so I don't doubt they have quite a pool of recruits to choose from

True, though now I'm curious about what would end the cycle. If the population of young adult men in Ukraine is nearly halved and they're still recruiting willing nationalist zealots, what ends it?

Well in Nazi Germany they got as far as mobilizing the volksturm and the Red Army storming Berlin, so my guess is it'll unfortunately go pretty fucking far before the situation comes to an end

Yes. I think that there is a lot of deputizing of regular people into roles like immigration control and with gun ownership concentrated in a class of people more than willing to use it against others, they may already cover their lost personnel.

They could deputise random people into auxiliary police units with rudimentary training to do stuff like traffic control. Another option is using the military to do stuff

Rural conservative people are somehow convinced that BLM is a terrorist organization that has captured territory in an actual civil war. That's how some of my cousins talk, including a few who wanted to be cops.

They think they'll be sent to active battlefields. One cousin told me BLM uses landmines.

Just up and down delusion. Also I think potential pigs are afraid of sovereign citizens too? A coworker of mine who flunked out of pig academy always talks up sovereign citizens like they're Rambo.

They probably showed them footage of some cop getting shot by a sovereign citizen during a traffic stop to scare them into taking things seriously the same way they show you graphic images of car crashes during drivers ed

They watched Fox News in 2020 and saw riots in places like Seattle and they collectively imagined that all large cities in the north were burned to the ground. It's like campfire stories for them. One of my relatives will say they heard BLM killed 100 cops last week, then the other will say they heard BLM joined forces with MS-13.

One of my cousins tells an elaborate story of how he had to shoot his way out of an antifa roadblock in Colorado one time. They're all making shit up and won't call one another out.

It will be cyberpunk dystopia. There will be flying drones everywhere. Boston Dymanics dogs will do the no knock raids. Drones will be either AI or remote piloted with no face to hold even notionally accountable.

If people are needed, the police will be transformed into the only way to secure a quality living. im-doing-my-part

Granted, these things will be tried but I think capitalism wont even accomplish its own goals of survival due to its ineptitude.

Boston Dymanics dogs will do the no knock raids.

I've already seen this done with a drone. I can't find the video again but like two years ago I saw a video of a drone flying into an apartment and a guy surrendering to it, or it was gonna shoot him. It was in the US I'm pretty sure.

There is also at least a chance that if that starts happening more often, the drone pilot will not be as trigger happy because they won't be personally in the situation. Cops are taught and encouraged to get triggered and act first which wouldn't be needed as much in those situations. Though that still leaves room for an apathetic drone operator that doesn't care/gets off to killing someone with anonymous impunity.

As long as AI isn't deliberately designed to be racist or murderous, I might actually feel safer surrendering to that as opposed to a screaming ape in a the-pigs costume.

I mean, I have to try to find a way to be bloomer about the future.

because the vast majority of people have realized that cops are basically evil.

Tbh I don't think it's the vast majority that think this. Most normies are probably neutral about cops and buy into the "bad apple" shit. It's definintely a huge chunk of people though, enough to scare people away from the "job" because they don't want like half the country seeing you as the bad guy you are. Even a lot of the people that'd argue against ACAB are still pretty uncomfortable by default in the presence of a cop. People want to be liked and respected, the opposite has come true for police.

And you're in your 20's, looking for a future wife or husband? Your chances probably go down pretty drastically if you become a pig. I matched with a bi guy on tinder who tried to hide the fact that he was a cop in training at first, 10 years ago he'd probably have his first profile pic be in uniform.

in my line of (volunteer) work many fellow volunteers are or want to be cops in training, but a few are trying to be firefighters....I always ALWAYS ask the would be future cops, "have you considered firefighting instead? what if everyone loved you instead of hated you" etc and honestly....it's been a not completely ineffective strategy

The pendulum will swing backwards after the next big cop-aganda push. It's super easy to manipulate the public because so many people don't have a coherent political framework. Leftover vibes aren't enough to enact permanent change.
