The ETR 600 is a class of trains built by Alstom, and are used on the routes between Roma-Bolzano and Roma-Trieste. The train tilts, using Pendolino technology, allowing higher speeds to be maintained through corners without causing discomfort to passengers. The trains are operated by Trenitalia, originally under the Frecciargento (Silver Arrow) branding used for trains capable of travelling between 250 km/h and 285 km/h, In 2022 they were rebranded under Frecciarossa (Red Arrow) after the Frecciargento branding was retired.

The ETR 600 has also been adapted for use in China as the China Railway CRH5 Hexie. Initially 60 sets were ordered, of which nine were manufactured by Alstom and 51 by CNR Changchun Railway Vehicles. Since, another 80 sets have been created for a total of 140, operating across China's north from Beijing to Ürümqi.

so if Galar is supposed to be Britain, and Unova America, did Unova fight for independenc against Galar? did Kalos help them out? this leads me to furtther thinking... what the actual fuck is a pokemon region? is it a nation state? is it a smaller administrative unit like a county or US state? some of them like galar and Kalos seem like entire nations, but are Kanto and Johto one country or two?

A region typically seems to have an elite 4 and champion and that has its own professor and villain group. Johto has night and day while Kanto does not, so they're probably on different planets, where Kanto is tidal locked with a magical cave teleporting you between the two planets. They do seem to share the same villain group though, so maybe that makes them kinda like the EU?

I love the immediate jump to yes they must be different planets lmao. not all of the regions have seasons either, so Unova must have an axial tilt like earth

Kanto being on a different planet from Johto sounds ridiculous but I'm pretty sure ORAS made it canon that the Pokemon timeline is split into different realities, so its not that unlikely

If Alola is Hawai'i, does that mean Alola was colonized by Galar and Unova? Did Unova nuke Kanto and Johto? Was that the war that Lt. Surge was in?

        New canon just dropped :centrist:

        Although...

This could either have not happened (boring), or it could have happened. In the latter case, Pokemon would be the peak idealized version of a neoliberal rules-based order, where everyone gets along under capitalism somehow, and the only enemies are organized criminals.

the universal healthcare in every region makes me debate the end of history neoliberal victory. they're some kinda bland social democracy if anything. there are big companies like sylph co and the pokemart chain, but also a lot of independent small businesses

why do you think they only form their own leauge during the plot of the game? recently gained autonomy or independence from Unova ofc

Unova is just the NYC metro area turned into a region (so less urbanized and bigger). Anyway, Pokémon doesn't really have much worldbuilding. You're not supposed to think about this (but you can if you want to critique obviously).

Kalos matches pretty cleanly with the terre d'oïl whereas some future southern France region would be Occitania (in much older time European regions were named after how they said yes for whatever reason, Occitania says Oc and northern french France said Oui).

If it's anything like real life, what makes a region is some squishy stuff between linguistics, geography, modern cultural rewriting, historical conquests and oppression etc.

The Pokémon world went through some horrific war, partially this is a fan theory but people like Lt Surge ARE veterans of some war that used pokemon. Unova has, like, what is obviously a radioactive wasteland. Could be like Star Trek where nation states just stopped mattering as much after some enormous social upheaval and revolution following such a global conflict (perhaps Poké Stalin didn't stop at Berlin and backed the Greek commies). Perhaps to the poké citizens, some still hold onto the old lies like Nation State citizenship but most think of themselves in terms of occupants of a particular bio-region (as if Cascadia ever became an irl thing with hegemonic power, and whatever other bioregions) and borders don't really exist

it is weird they don't have mediterranian France in Kalos. I guess northern France is most famous, but like Marseille is pretty well known. na just slap a big mountain rang there, keep the Provincals from Northern France

Call me lame but personally I think Lt. Surge exists b/c American occupation of Japan is a significant characteristic of the region, and Pokémon regions are partial reflections of real-world places. If you try to put together a coherent timeline or even multiple timelines for the games it all falls apart. The worldbuilding isn't consistent, which isn't bad per se but in my opinion means you shouldn't overthink it b/c an overarching world wasn't an intention in the creation of the series.
