We're a group of people who will sit for hours, days, even weeks on end performing some of the hardest, most mentally demanding tasks. Over, and over, and over all for nothing more than a little digital token saying we did.
We'll punish our selfs doing things others would consider torture, because we think it's fun.
We'll spend most if not all of our free time min maxing the stats of a fictional character all to draw out a single extra point of damage per second.
Many of us have made careers out of doing just these things: slogging through the grind, all day, the same quests over and over, hundreds of times to the point where we know evety little detail such that some have attained such gamer nirvana that they can literally play these games blindfolded.
Do these people have any idea how many controllers have been smashed, systems over heated, disks and carts destroyed 8n frustration? All to latter be referred to as bragging rights?
These people honestly think this is a battle they can win? They take our media? We're already building a new one without them. They take our devs? Gamers aren't shy about throwing their money else where, or even making the games our selves. They think calling us racist, mysoginistic,removed apologists is going to change us? We've been called worse things by prepubescent 10 year olds with a shitty head set. They picked a fight against a group that's already grown desensitized to their strategies and methods. Who enjoy the battle of attrition they've threatened us with. Who take it as a challange when they tell us we no longer matter. Our obsession with proving we can after being told we can't is so deeply ingrained from years of dealing with big brothers/sisters and friends laughing at how pathetic we used to be that proving you people wrong has become a very real need; a honed reflex.
Gamers are competative, hard core, by nature. We love a challange. The worst thing you did in all of this was to challange us. You're not special, you're not original, you're not the first; this is just another boss fight.
Everyone is fooled by his facade until he lies about something they are familiar with.
As a software engineer, it still blows my mind that any software people take him seriously at all after the way he handled Twitter. He literally asked programmers to print out the code they'd written in the last 6 months so he could fire whoever wrote the fewest lines.
Dude has no fucking clue how any of it works.
I have never seen any evidence that he wrote any code at all. I am interested in being proven wrong. I'd want to see a video or picture of him actually typing something. If not that, then at least some commits with his name on it.

Not to be a vulgar materialist about it, but cultivating this super genius inventor image also makes him a lot of money. The brand and the stock price of his companies are tied directly to how much people believe he's directly involved in running them, and how much people think he's "actually super smart you guys, I swear he's like Tony Stark but irl".
If people dunk on Elon for being a reactionary asshole with shit opinions, it barely affects the market. If Elon is somewhat outed not to be the savant he claims to be, the companies he has tied to his myth would suffer for it.

Probably Diablo 2 because that's when ladder got really competitive. You could make serious bank if you found some of the first high runes after a fresh reset. We're talking like $300 on E-Bay for a Jah or Ber if found within the first four hours. That price plummets down to less than $1 by the end of the week.
This is mainly due to dupers being able to make their money back the sooner they get their hands on certain things.

I know a few people who are or used to be fully in the Elon love train, or at least thought the guy was technically capable, and admired him for being "a different kind of tech founder" or an engineer in charge of a company that makes cutting edge stuff, instead of the suits who run all the other companies.
I think it's easy for us (leftists and chronically online) to see him be deranged now and think "how could someone think he is a smart person", because we already distrust bosses, and see through his reactionary bullshit more easily. BUT, he has spent the better part of 20 years building this myth of him being a genius inventor who builds rockets and electric cars with his own hands. He's spent a lot of time and money to build it, and it's very purposeful. To the casual observer who just kind of absorbs the narratives that float around, without paying a lot of a attention, that becomes the default assumption: Elon has paid all these people to make him look good, must be true.

I can confirm that this information is true. After I saw the reddit post, I decided to also trade the account. I saw a trade message that was also in Chinese and when I visited their hideout, it was also on the Hong Kong realm. Unfortunately I didn't save a screenshot of my trade because I had figured that the reddit post was sufficient evidence at the time. Then I made a hexbear post about it on December 22.
