Points at the megathread "Nationalize it"
- just got done writing a 33-page page report that's already late for my client's deadline, about to package up the file to send to them, lingering feeling that I may have made a mistake
- check input data one more time, realise it's completely fucking wrong
- entire report will have to be rewritten
- I've been working on it for 12 hours
:agony-turbo:
I desperately want to get off of mr. America’s wild ride
The one good thing to come of this, too bad the poor and marginalized will suffer the most.
The very obvious Achilles heel of full-blown capitalism has been exposed.
"ayy girl, you got me wanting to be a petty criminal in the ussr" :pingu-horny:
i cant see how this could possibly go wrong :che-laugh:
"Am I a counter-revolutionary because I could see myself in you"
I don't really have anything to say but I'm early at the megathread and I feel compelled to say something. So here are some emoji that I haven't seen enough on here yet:
:squidward-nochill: :squidward-chill:
the true revolutionary is guided by a great feeling of love ... we must strive every day so that this love of [emoji] will be transformed into actual deeds, into acts that serve as examples, as a moving force

I don't know what to do about the FIRE people that think they have it all planned out, so that if they just save up $1 million dollars, they'll be able to safely withdraw $40k per year forever. That's based off a study that looked at history and said a 4% withdraw rate would, in 95/100 cases, last you 30 years, which was assumed to be the time between retirement and death.
I get the desire to escape the rat race, but like any atomized person living in late capitalism, they think their individual actions will be enough. Even if that $1 million manages to last them as long as they need it to, instead of running out in 30 or 40 years, the bourgeois are going to find more ways to drain down those savings.
And, in the meantime, they are likely to oppose any sort of socialist reform, because it would likely be at the expense of the capital they're drawing their income from.
I had a conversation recently with a fellow new employee about how we should probably skip contributing to our 401k because the money probably won't exist when we get to retirement age because of climate change and it made our older coworkers visibly uncomfortable :sadness:
your wife only communicates in monosyllabic noises and the word "kitty" or ??
preedit edit: im wearing a giant pink t-shirt right now, am i your wife? :cat-confused:
ive said it before and ill say it again:
ACAB means all cats are beautiful, no matter if they woof or purr
HOW ARE YOU JUST NOW SEEING MONSTERS INC??? I mean, fuck capitalism and all, but good God does Pixar make some good shit.
Monster's Inc. and Bug's Life were very important to young Leon_Grotsky. Lion King too, but I always rooted for the hyenas on that one. Bros just trying to work towards a better future getting along with the lions. :(
Whatever you do, don't watch the sequel, it's doodooass
Is there any writing on how the opaqueness of the internet and internet companies forces users to think conspiratorially and (sorry if this is ableist) schizophrenically? Every single shadowban, delisting, etc. feels like a coldwar tactic or gaslighting. Accounts get deleted then reinstated without comment, or maybe with a false comment from the website. Any action could could be automated, or maybe it's done by a human in Bangladesh (who doesn't have a great grasp of English context), or maybe it's from Silicon Valley HQ. The person you're arguing with could be an idiot, a liar, or a bot. People in 4chan threads literally get into arguments over who replies belong to. Digital evidence (screenshots, etc.) can easily be faked a lot of the time.
It's only really through communities that build themselves up despite this that can oppose most of these forces, but it's not enough. You never know if there are outside forces trying to screw with your community. It's dystopic.
this is a topic i'm interested in researching although the process of reading about it makes my brain feel like it's melting.
this blog post from last year has stuck with me although it doesn't go as in-depth as you'd like about the conspiratorial aspect of the web now.
accidentally exposed myself to shudder advertising last night. I haven't seen an honest to god Ad since probably pe-pandemic bc i adblock and have been working from home so this made it extra bizarre. the one i saw was one about how it's time to come together and support each other, but it showed them doing that by sharing... fucking Ritz crackers?
Fuck any company being like "it's a hard time" and offering no solutions but to take your money. I've always hated advertising but jfc ya'll weren't joking when talking about pandemic ads.
Also i'm gluten free so like, get fucked advertisers. I can't even buy your mediocre product.
My favorite are the "lease a new car" commercials, with bravado in their extensive accommodating for people they'll contractually fuck.
0%* financing on all old model year vehicles!
*for bourgeis buyers with a credit score in the 800s. Your apr will have a teen at the end.
I just keep getting Cadillac ads where a woman nearly commits manslaughter
I can't turn my empathy off even for bad people, feels bad
like when trump had trouble breathing in that clip awhile ago after he got home from the hospital after COVID i couldn't help feeling bad for that sick fuck. Throw these war criminals into a gulag yeah, but i don't want them to actually be tortured.
When andy gno, another real actual fascist who has done real harm to my community got punched, i actually felt kinda bad for him while watching the video. He just looked like a sad little defeated child who didn't know what they had gotten themself into. Of course he's now a bigger danger to my community and i certainly would never stop or object to anyone punching a nazi. But damn my empathy is like "hurt human sad" and overrides everything else when i see someone in pain.
At the same time, i'm 0% sad that Trump actually got COVID (i actually laughed a lot and genuinely wished he died) and i think punching a fascist when they are in your city literally just to cause violence is essentially self-defense. But in the moment i see pain i just go ;_____; I guess that's an autism thing idk. Feels kinda bad cuz i don't know if i could ever really be on the front lines but i can help in other ways at least.
this is correct and good.
we should feel empathy for our enemies, but that shouldnt stop us from knowing what needs to be done.
andy ngo is a fascist who collaborates with atomwaffen to make kill lists, and deserves far more than a sock to the jaw.
hes also a misguided useful-idiot who would undoubtedly be purged if such white supremacists held the power they hope for.
people like andy ngo made their choice, and the choice they made was to put your life on the chopping block while they cozy up to people that want them dead. that is sad
this is why the concept "make no excuses for the terror" is an important one. the necessary action may be terrifying and terrible, but the alternative is worse.
the andy ngos and trumps of the world will never willingly stop the terror they inflict, because they have no empathy
Yeah, i actually agree with the "when our turns we will make no excuses for the terror" a lot because of that.
Poverty has killed millions. Capitalism will let change change kill billions. I feel sad about violence but by doing nothing instead of fighting back, we're letting millions more die. Every single day. COVID-19 alone has killed over 200,000 in one year in america because we refused to actually give people some time off work and quarantine.
So yeah idk. That's why i'd happily enjoy trump dying but i don't want to see actual suffering. Because at the end of the day, the suffering we could inflict will be a drop in the ocean of the blood and bones they've been grinding us in since the dawn of this accursed system.
Throw them in the gulag but give them blankies so they don't get too cold
There’s no problem with feeling empathy. Just remember that if the roles were reversed, they’d show no empathy
psychopathy
If I’m the one torturing the fascists, and that makes me feel extremely good, does that balance out in empathy at all? Can you focus your empathy on feeling good for whoever punched out Andy Ngo?
eh doesn't work like that for me. You'll never get me to agree that torture is ever good or necessary, BUT if violence does happen i'd rather be on the side of people who are using it on oppressors and not the oppressed. If someone feels really good punching a fash - it's like i feel the joy in fighting off an oppressor but not the actual act of violence itself?
The CPC says Mao was 70% right, the Maoists say he was 100% right.
As a centrist, I think Mao was 85% right.
I still can't believe 154 million Americans voted for a racist
I'm worried the recent drop in COVID19 cases this last week is an artifact of the holiday and people not wanting to risk knowing about their COVID19, and the next few weeks in going to be a blood bath as all the people that already have it finally get tested this week, plus all the people they gave it to. Plus, the percent of false negatives is comically high, to the point of almost being useless.
yeah, a "real" drop in cases would also mean a drop in the net positive rate of test. it might be real, actually, looking at North Dakota , but even if the number of cases has gone down, it doesn't change the good chances of a massive spike in the next couple of weeks from the holiday break / travel
In america there are only two situations in which people get covid tests:
- They’re at the hospital fucking dying
- Their job won’t let them back in without a test
So yeah, you’d expect a drop in testing over holidays.
Seems like loads of people use tests as an out.
Even if the test is right you could catch it at the store 15 minutes later.
