yes buses take up less space while driving and don't need to be parked outside of every destination, and in fact they can just keep going and taking more people more places while the first schmucks are still sitting in the library or at work or getting ice cream

... but have you considered that rain and pain?

But have you considered Pain and Gain, the 2013 action comedy film starring Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson directed by working class hero Michael Bay?

i'm sorry i just can't wrap my mind about this. there's just no concievable way with our current tech

what if instead of buses communicating with each other to maximize efficiency in the huge existing transportation infrastructure we already built over decades

we built a huge new network of honeycombed underground tunnels for teslas to travel at high speed without much risk

underground rocket ships but they have little wheels that brace against the tunnel walls so they're safe

"But the bus won't drive me exactly where I want to go!"

In a good transportation system with no traffic and more bus routes, it would.

Actually, it won't and that's cool and good because it doesn't have to drive you EXACTLY where you need to go no matter how weird the place, because that's inefficient as fuck. 99/100 times someone can walk like 100-200 meters to go where they want to go. And either way in dense cities cars won't get you exactly where you want either because it is impossible to park close to where you want to go.

99/100 times someone can walk like 100-200 meters to go where they want to go.

Additionally, in any humane public transit system, there will be dedicated door-to-door bus services for people with specialized physical or cognitive needs.

There's no reason to make that buses, buses aren't better just because they are buses, they are because they carry lots of people. If you want to make a door to door system, it's not efficient to have a bus with 1 person inside, better just make it a car.

Uhh can't the USA afford bus stops, with roofs? And yeah walking in the rain is shitty but so is being stuck in a traffic jam doing fuck all for an hour.

Yeah well wait until the next Tesla model which has no roof but it's alright because you can purchase a Tesla umbrella drone to hover over your car in case it starts raining.

make sure you buy your Tesla Model ACAB (remember, cuz Elon's an anarcho syndicalist and this convertible has to appeal to the edgy youth) directly from Tesla, because if you buy third party and Tesla finds out you didn't pay separately for the drone upgrade it might just fly back to the dealership while you're stuck in a hyperloop traffic jam

Yeah about that time cost, the only reason PT is "slow" (buses in particular, subways are like much faster than cars for most places if the grid is dense enough, even if you need to walk a bit) is because your dumb cars are making it slow by clogging up the streets, Elon.

Transit and walk-ability go hand in hand. When the infrastructure is designed for cars before anything else, it makes it inconvenient and time consuming to walk to a bus stop so people who have cars don't bother.

The class system requires people to be isolated. You don't have to think too hard about how your position is maintained if you rarely if ever actually see the under classes. This is internalized to the point that they are disgusted by the idea of being in a bus with a poor person.

Same! It was a relatively relaxing part of my day. Sure, sometimes some weird shit would happen, but 19/20 I'd just ride and listen to music or read or journal. It was so much better than driving ever was! When I switched to bike commuting I actually kind of missed it.

And aren't you allegedly trying to make public transit Elon? Is there no rain nor pain if you're in a tiny shuttle?
