Tyrant originally meant something close to populist. They’ve been at this for a while.
It basically meant someone who derived their power from the masses instead of the ruling elites iirc.
/edit - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tyrant#Populism
They also mean usurpers in the sense that they did’t come to power through the usual channels.
I mean, it is kinda stretching it matching it up with populism, but the usual channel was through a popular uprising, and it’s why Plato thought democracies necessarily “devolved” into tyrannies. The rabble get a taste, and because they’re ignorant, easily-swayed rabble they support this asshole tyrant’s claim to power. Otherwise, it generally had neither positive or negative connotations, while today it’s universally used negatively.
Can even find a hundred articles making the Plato connection with trump, when we’d mainly just call him a populist.
They think the president has way more power than he actually does
How much power did they think trump had? Wasnt that why I was supposed to vote for biden? Has the office of the presidency shrunk since november?
it's funny. originally they were on board with 2000 checks and a 15 dollar minimum wage because it was promised and if you make promises like that you need to meet them. but the propaganda is working overtime and they've switched to this bullshit instantly
Why can't you just want dead brown people halfway across the globe like a normal person?
Is there any more condescending way to express the thought "YOU SHOULD BE WILLING TO SACRIFICE YOUR HEALTH AND WELLBEING FOR THE GOOD OF THE STATE"?
I just can't imagine the sort of brain-disease necessary to think that 1.) the State, as it exists, is worthy of sacrifice 2.) imperialist war good 3.) you should be willing to suffer discomfort or death so your masters can prosecute a war on the other side of the world against a people who are not remotely a threat to anyone living in this country.
I can remember, back in middle-school, when they taught us the difference between liberalism and fascism (or maybe it was democracy and totalitarianism) they said fascism is defined by "the glorification of the state above the individual."
Real making shit up hours over there, the US attacked an "Iran-backed militia", i.e. literally a Syrian militia allied with the SAA that defends territory along the Iraqi border, an area that is one of the most heavily attacked regions in the country by ISIS remnants
Fuckin dipshits can't even bother to read the state departments own press release
for liberals, it is. you must be willing to follow the enlightened ruler of the leader of our blessed nation, Joe Biden, and not complain about it you fucking serf
I don't see how unilaterally deciding to murder people in a sovereign nation is suddenly cool and good if they were also foreigners.
I also made the mistake of going into the thread, and they are incredibly horny. Neolib influencer seems to be an untapped market.
Neolib influencer seems to be an untapped market.
Their horrifying system is not delivering the results they dreamed of so they need someone to keep the fire going

People who have been knocked down by a troubled economy, a difficult past, an unfair system, or a personal tragedy.” Her work was recently featured in a Huffington Post article.
Holy fuck you're right :JB-shining-aggro:
War Studies Program
How does a non West Point university have a program literally just about war, the fuck
I mean in principle I'd say it's a worthy area of study in general, but I'm 100% sure that programs just a factory for the blob
Love how /r/neoliberal interprets "demanding Biden to deliver on $2000 checks immediately" as demanding that Biden (with a majority in both houses of congress) be a dictator.
They also always ignore that it was literally something that Biden promised would happen immediately if the dems won Georgia. Which they did.
Those dastardly leftists holding the president to his words, surely they just want a dictatorship.
They've never heard of a synecdoche.
Yeah, big brains. People are literally asking Biden personally to give them money. Not his administration which promised to give people money.
They're being disingenuous on purpose.
They literally always twist the words of their critics to spread ridiculous smears like this.
EDIT:
I mean the stimulus checks and Syria airstrike are good examples of this.
"You want the Democrats to fulfill their
liespromises and send $2,000 checks immediately? Do you think the President is a dictator, he's actually powerless! You're saying Trump exercised such power regularly and we're just choosing not to? Do you literally want Biden to act like Trump, a fascist?""Oh you're against dropping bombs on Syria? Well we didn't drop bombs on Syria per say, we dropped bombs on Iranian-backed militias." (The way they're spinning this is to make it seem like these are Iranian-based terrorists or w/e who have entered Syria to fight) "Also this strike was retaliatory for their attacks on American Troops. Are you against this country defending its soldiers?"
Both of these arguments are willfully ignoring the actual arguments left-wing critics are making. Those being "The Democrats have the power to fulfill their promises, they are just consciously choosing not use it and were lying the whole time" and "They're attacking US troops because the US is doing imperialism and destroying and occupying their country. You can literally just leave and these attacks wouldn't happen. Stop destroying Middle Eastern countries" respectively. They know these are the arguments, but they have no real response to them, so instead they ignore them and argue past them to try and portray left-wing critics of the Democrats as fringe loonies.
Is this the Afghanistan war definition of "combatant"? You know "male over age 13 regardless of occupation, affiliation, or access to weaponry?"
America is more feminist now, so we belive women can also be considered "combatants". It's so great to see the military respect girl power.
Which was also the same criteria when they blocked "military age males" from leaving Fallujah before pummeling it.
And wasn't it the same basis for bombing Awlaki's teenage son?
What does it mean when libs start calling your desire for individual well-being egocentric? I know this is kind of pedantic, but I thought the whole bedrock of liberal thought - at least what we’re told it’s supposed to be - is the individual and ego-centrism?
Basically it’s them saying you are too stupid and emotionally compromised to understand how politics work.
And Libs will become ever-more psychotic every foot of the way down
If they're Iranian "proxies" doesn't that mean that they aren't Iranians by definition? you know what? I'm going to post this to r/Syriancivilwar and see what engagement it gets.
Hey, we're non-partisan! We really have no goals or broader vision for the future as long as we make money blowing people (preferably brown) up...
wait, they actually made all of my satire redundant in the wiki :deeper-sadness:
“The Obama administration said that all civilians were deemed actually not war crimes after that fact so stop with the gas lighting sweetie :)”
Wanting vaccines to be administered more efficiently so that people can stop dying is egocentric. The selfless thing to do is to desire that nothing is done so we can stretch this out for all eternity.
