    Zelensky told ABC News that he had "cooled down" on Ukraine's bid to join the alliance "long ago." He said this came "after we understood that NATO is not prepared to accept Ukraine."

    Ah. That's why he's been demanding NATO institute no-fly zones and shit. Of course. Long ago...like maybe a couple hours ago?

    Whatever. The dude is desperate and will say literally anything at this point. He's about as stable in the moment as Trump is generally. Whew!

    Hope this'll materialize into more useful and concrete diplomacy, but it's difficult to be too optimistic about it.

      this is silly? dude was hoping for assistance from the west, which has continued to leave him out to dry. changing course and capitulating on nato admission, in order to placate and negotiate w/ putin, isn't unstable-- it's completely reasonable.

        That by itself would be completely reasonable, yes. Notice right next to that that he tries to claim it's been his position all along, though (the part I quoted), and also says shit like, "Our people understand this, and we are beginning to count on our own strength." Still sounds pretty aggressive/chauvinist IMO. I'm just saying that both here and in general the guy seems all over the fucking map. On the one hand "We're CRUSHING Russia!", on the other "Send HELP!", now "I understand we'll never be part of NATO", yet just a bit ago "Why isn't NATO swooping in to destroy Russia?!" Etc.

            Okay. Which is a desperate position and one that IMO looks unstable as fuck, whether that's due to some personal failing or pure systemic pressure or (most likely) some combination.

          he's saying the fight is worth supporting (as opposed to giving up quick) and also asking for that support, I don't see any flawed logic here.
