I am hearing that on his deathbed Colonel Sanders received the light of Islam and unhesitatingly recited the Shahada. Even now he looks down on the Ummah from the gardens of Jannah. Truly there is no god but Allah, and Mohammad is his prophet!

I am sickened and ashamed that my country has lowered itself to inflict KFC upon the innocent muslims of Ontario.

they are functionally the same in terms of what animals are allowed for consumption. the slaughter rules are all functionally the same, except that to be kosher the animal must be slaughtered by someone who has been specially trained and knows the laws, while islam only requires that it is performed by any sane muslim who knows the rules. so, for an orthodox person, one seems to preclude the other. sometimes there are dispensations for islam that says anyone of an abrahamic faith counts. there is also some quibbling about inspecting the animal vs. inspecting its removed organs, and wether or not the name of god is said before the slaughter.

what this probably means is that they paid up with some consultants endorsed by a large enough muslim organization to modify the existing process to achieve a halal cert without losing their kosher cert at the plant.

its super obvious if you ever look up the rules that they came from the same cultural origin, and are only different due to time and space. the people who argue that there is a true difference in the two are pedantic dorks, even in the eyes of hashem/allah.

My friends and I, while abroad, would eat so many meals at "the halal place" (we didn't bother to learn the restaurant's actual name). If we didn't want to get something more signature to the country, we'd order their fried chicken over rice. I don't actually have anything more to contribute nor can I justify this story with relevance.

I thought KFC was also on the BDS list, but I guess this decision was more future-proofing.

Notably, maximization of animal suffering is a key element to both.

It's not literally that. Back when these methods were written down, they were thought as minimizing suffering because you had to make it quick. A non religious farmer who wouldn't care could torture the animal for dozens of minutes by doing it carelessly while halal / kosher farmers would use proper methods

Now technology evolved so there's debate to be had but the initial intent wasn't cruelty, quite the contrary

This implication that Halal slaughtering processes purposefully maximize animal suffering has real "those savage bloodthirsty arabs" vibes. The methods may not be particularly kind, but let's not pretend what happens to animals in the west is any better. And it's particularly gross and inaccurate to say that religious food laws purposefully maximize suffering.

damn you managed to slip both Islamophobia and antisemitism into the same comment. Wild dude.

Also Kosher and Halal have more rules than just around meat dipshit.

Please tell me what animal slaughter was involved in my jar of Kosher dill pickles you edgelord reddit atheist?

Outside of a handful of franchisee markets, KFC Canada hasn't had pork products on the menu since the Double Down was a thing over a decade ago.

I thought I read that the Halal method hits some important nerves that at least lessens the agony of decapitation, but I never checked to verify that. I get your annoyance. A lot of the libs were suddenly crawling out of the woodwork to scream about animal rights during Ramadan and Eid before going back to their usual shit of doing nothing about anything ever.

The problem with this way of thinking is if you have a problem with halal slaughter then you have a problem with the entire meat industry. Why single out one specific method of animal suffering and ignore everything else?

Animal suffering is animal suffering you either are ok with it or not there's no middle ground pick and choose what kinds of suffering you're ok with

You can say that having meat is more important to you than animals not suffering but you would still prefer to minimise that suffering where possible.

but the second part is so crucial. given that meat is always depraved murder, any special concern from a carnist about halal/kosher meat is just islamaphobia/anti-Semitism

And no I don't need to be told "well eating meat anyway is fucked carnist " as if that would be helpful

Well clearly you do need to be told that if you still don't see why it's correct
