I used to never have any effects from drinking, Then by my 30s I started waking up early with full day hangovers. Learn to drink water before you sleep.. don't drink on an empty stomach.

If you wake up feeling sickly, heavy (and still a bit groggy) Get a cup of strong tea and have something greasy to eat, it can help (reheated pizza, fried bread) usually helps a ton funnily enough Trying to get it down with a hangover can be hard though..

Always eat sonething even if it is something light, start trying to drink a glass or more of water once you stop drinking, if you eat later have water with it and if you take some pain relief (ibuprofen or something similar) it should help prevent a killer hangover. Don't over eat though before you sleep and always sleep on your side.

It can be tough, the pain killers and water before bed is usually what prevents the worst. You're welcome c:

the new alcohol guide in the drugs comm recommends antihistamines, B12, magnesium, and ORS (oral rehydration solution)

Alcohol releases a lot of histamine in your body. This is why people get red and puffy when they drink, they’re essentially having a very minor allergic reaction to alcohol. So anti-histamines really get rid of the worst of the more hangover based symptoms, such as nausea and just that “ick” you get after drinking

so you're telling me there's a drug that makes me cool and normal? and all i have to do is sleep a bunch the next day? why hasn't anyone thought of just doing that all the time?

Been there, done that, seems great briefly then abruptly ends up awful when you want to quit and realize your tolerance has built up to some physical chemical dependency and you feel like when SpongeBob got the suds, would not recommend

                CW addiction/booze stuff

                spoiler

Being briefly Mx. Lahey "right in the slot" 0.12 can be a good time for awhile but using booze as an anxiety treatment is a bad time, especially when "does anyone suspect that I've been drinking?" is also something you get anxious about lmao

Bad feedback loop Never really got sloppy wasted around other people or made any dangerous bad decisions thankfully but yeah that's definitely a slippery slope you don't wanna go down

            alcohol abuse

yeah, it works. but, then you're drinking gin and tonics every day at 4pm after work convincing yourself it's normal and ok actually. trust me

            I'm now thankfully

It doesn't seem worth it ultimately, thankfully. Thus far I've been good at not relying on substances.
