    US warns China of consequences if it helps Russia evade sanctions

    Sullivan has warned Beijing that it will “absolutely” face consequences if it helps Moscow evade sweeping sanctions over the war in Ukraine.

    “We are communicating directly, privately to Beijing, that there will absolutely be consequences,” the US National Security Adviser said in an interview to CNN. “We will not allow that to go forward and allow there to be a lifeline to Russia from these economic sanctions from any country, anywhere in the world.”

    Sullivan is expected to meet China’s top diplomat Yang Jiechi in Rome on Monday as part of a broader effort by the world’s two largest economies to maintain open channels of communication.
