I don't have specialized knowledge (feel free to ignore), but I think that without sanctions it's basically a given that a top three military will be able to invade Ukraine at will, even with all of its issues (and it seems that many issues have been exposed by this conflict, will be interesting to look at it all retrospectively a year or two from now). From what I've seen, about 10% of Russian military resources have been dedicated to Ukraine, not sure if that has been increased in the last week and a half.

With all the sanctions, which allegedly were expected, although I would have to doubt that this scale was not quite planned for, things are more interesting. Success will probably work out based on Russia's ability to form new trade relationships with China, India, and others without using USD or anything else Western. Unprecedented in modern times, but surely possible, and the demand from developing countries is surely there to build alternatives to US/USD centered trade systems. If Russia can't swing it they will probably have a lot of issues domestically to sort out and may need to pull back from Ukraine without fully completing their mission.
