Hell yeah this is why you see marathon runners grabbing milk out of those little paper cups

All joking aside it’s been a depressing realization that msm will just write any story about anything as long as somebody pays them

I've seen marathons where they handed out chocolate milk instead of electrolyte drink at the end. There was a (probably dairy funded) study arguing that chocolate milk was a better post workout drink than Gatorade because. Turns out it was because it had carbs and your body needs carbs after a marathon. Anyways, a little later they came out with "post workout" Gatorade, with extra carbs in it, so now everyone's a winner.

My biggest criticism of water is that it just isn't quite good enough for hydration

Have you tried adding a bunch of sugar and salt, two ingredients famous for improving hydration?

salt helps a lot actually. i had issues with dehydration because my salt levels were so low. would cause headaches all the time. fixed that and they went away

That'd be hyponatremia, which is also extremely common in runners, has similar symptoms as dehydration, but is more accurately thought of as over hydration. It sounds a bit ridiculous but it's pretty common and quite dangerous especially because most people will drink more water when they really need electrolytes/salt and having more plain water will make it worse.

yeah i exercised a lot. would really fuck me up and i was so confused. docs didnt know either, only thing weird with my bloodwork was my salt was on the low end of normal. so i figured id just eat more salt, and voila. was weird that they never suggested that imo.

Salt and sugar do improve hydration by activating the sodium-glucose cotransporters in your intestines, google oral rehydration therapy...

If I'n drinking something for hydration my top priority is that it also has a ton of sugar in it.

When you drink water, it pulls electrolytes out of your cells due to osmosis, dehydrating you.

    alternate writeup from ChatGPT

Olive oil, while not traditionally considered a beverage, possesses exceptional hydrating properties that make it a unique and effective choice for maintaining optimal hydration levels. Firstly, olive oil contains a significant amount of monounsaturated fats, which are known to promote healthy skin and retain moisture. These fats help to reinforce the skin's natural barrier, preventing water loss and keeping it hydrated from within. Consuming olive oil regularly can contribute to the overall hydration of the body, making it an excellent choice for individuals seeking a hydrating beverage.

Secondly, olive oil is rich in antioxidants, particularly vitamin E, which plays a crucial role in maintaining skin health and hydration. Antioxidants help combat free radicals and protect the skin against damage caused by environmental factors. By consuming olive oil as a beverage, these antioxidants can work from within the body, promoting overall hydration and helping to maintain the skin's moisture balance.

It tacked a disclaimer on after the part I copied, but I appreciate that everything before that could be directly used on a bottle of extra-virgin drinkin' oil to sell in an "alternative wellness" store

To its credit I guess, it refused to give me anything usable from my first try, which was the same prompt but with "Coca Cola™" in place of olive oil

When you drink milk you're also imbibing all the hydration the cow had too.

To stay ultra hydrated I just blend a school of fish into a smoothie because what animal could be more hydrated than fish

Neoliberalism is about grindset and making teens burnt out due to overexertion so actually a fluid designed for people who do strenuous exercise for more than two hours is good praxis :agony:

I've realised I take in sugar at a far higher rate than an animal my size and lifestyle should. Some of this is just because I've grown accustomed to it with an american diet(:amerikkka-clap:) but I think it's also because I need my brain running so much with so little sleep it needs a lot of readily available energy constantly. IDK, maybe that's no how nutrition works.

Yeah you really just need water and maybe a little salt if you're really sweating up a storm. Sugar and flavors just make it more palatable and marketable as a beverage that can compete with soda.

Gatorade was my go-to hangover cure. Now I just make my own with salt and sugar, maybe some lime juice if I have it.

bro my vegan nutritional shakes have more calcium, protein, salt, and vitamin D than milk and now when i poop its like shooting a lubed up potato cannon

and its cheaper than milk and tastes better than it. when it finally got cheaper, i made the switch. for me veganism is mostly a material thing. if science comes up with something indistinguishable from a certain kind of meat, has similar or better nutritional properties, isn't super expensive, i will eat the shit out of it instead

i mean, almost all the powders of big brands are like this. orgain, ensure, huel, soylent, etc

find one whose taste and price you like

some brands have bulk pricing when you buy direct from them. i bought a fuckton of powder and froze it like a year or two ago before inflation really took off. since its all powder it keeps forever when frozen. i totally recommend a good mixer too

Following the rabbit hole of the study cited shows it being funded by the "European Hydration Institite", which has a website that hasn't been updated since 2014 but is headed up by someone with 3 decades of dairy marketing experience and some of the coauthors of this study. Fairly transparently a way to funnel dairy industry marketing money to the primary authors who then, conveniently, find greater hydration from dairy under very specific setups.

The study itself is from 2015 and is the centerpiece of an article... 8 years later, for no reported reason. The actual reason, of course, is that the dairy industry is currently doing a rebranding of their marketing and is having a predictably easy time getting US media outlets to provide them with free advertising. There are even articles that are just about the rebranding effort itself, with no bullshit "science" excuse.

Edit: this article is originally from 2019 and has been "bumped" for a 2023 re-release for, again, no reported reason. lol

Gonna drink a gallon of milk to rehydrate from diarrhea now instead of that loony liberal "oral rehydration therapy" stuff my lying doctors are trying to give me. Now where can I buy the raw stuff?
