I’ve been on an unintentional break from hexbear over the past 10 months since the redesign broke it on my phone and school started. But I have a new phone now, so what’s been happening? Are we finally blocked by everyone except lemmygrad? Any new struggle sessions? Fill me in!
UlyssesT went off to touch grass on a farm upstate, and Kissinger died immediately afterwards.
The defederations tapered off. We had a really funny tension with dbzer0 a few months ago, where instead of defederating, we banned just their admins, and nothing further happened.
The special relationship with Lemmygrad is as strong as ever.
BMF was banned for doing a very superficial sectarianism. It had happened a dozen times before but this time they haven't been spotted since.
DayOfDoom, one of our most entertaining posters, turned out to not be doing a bit and was really that perturbed to the core, and got banned for it.
There was a micro struggle session about olibe oiol, and something bigger about... I forget what.
We took site surveys and 104% of us are queer as fuck.
We've had a lot of "posting X every day until I don't" streaks, plenty of megathreads of all shades.
The site has been utterly overrun by beanis, and there's no going back.
Forgot the one thing that has not tapered off much to the amusement of the rest of the sane fediverse: lemmy.world still cannot stop making hundred comment threads about how mean and bad the hexbear is and pretending to be ignorant of what we actually think despite every single time someone from another instance that's still federated there painstakingly explaining exactly what our party lines so to speak tend to be.
Also the Aaron Bushnell struggle session
Wherein some (probably mostly white folks) did performative slander on their character ("muh they're still a troop") meanwhile the PFLP literally posted a statement honoring and recognizing Aaron as a martyr.
Oh yeah and then you missed that time I pulled the uno reverse card on the little shit that kept trying to get me evicted https://hexbear.net/post/1732105
The olive oil struggle session was so funny. More theory came up on that than most posts on the site
I still can't believe there was an argument over fucking olive oil.
Like the indoor cats vs outdoor cats and stacking rocks were pretty incredulous, but come on how do you end up on the wrong side of the olive oil argument and still double down when proven wrong.
I’ll still never forgive the morons who insist on stacking rocks after I demonstrated the many ways it is objectively bad for the environment. Like I thought I was making a friendly PSA to help give a quick tip on how to help people who didn’t know they were disturbing fragile ecosystems
Can I stack rocks if it's the chunks of asphalt and concrete from decaying infrastructure, or is that forbidden as well?
I would say making any physical contact with grass is bad. People should be confined to the arcology until we digitize our minds into a single hivemind and become transhuman.
You should make as much contact as possible with nonnative grasses in order to eliminate them from the environment.
You know what you need to do to stack rocks, or have an outdoor cat, or go shooting a Tsesarevich?
You have to go out.
or go shooting a Tsesarevich?
Oh yeah I forgot about that one
It is obviously that simple. No need to rehash this. The science is that stacking rocks is bad. I made the post because the science is that stacking rocks is bad. The national parks ask people not to stack rocks. Every scientist who works in the field knows stacking rocks is bad.
To argue it isn’t that simple is straight up climate change denialism levels of ignoring science.
I'm certainly not rehashing or arguing either way. But if it was 'obviously that simple', it wouldn't have made for a silly struggle session.
It was obviously that simple, that’s why it made for a ridiculous struggle session
Not trying to restart a struggle session, but I completely missed the stacking rocks argument. Can someone give me a quick rundown on why it's good/bad?
wait i missed the olive oil one, is there a link somewhere
Death to America
uncannily fast reply but thank you for your service :07
Death to America
I mean I was the one who brought up Mao, I can't say I'm not proud of it lol
DayOfDoom, one of our most entertaining posters, turned out to not be doing a bit and was really that perturbed to the core, and got banned for it.
uhhh, context? I did not realise it wasn't a bit
I often wonder if we are linked because of how often you end up having posted the exact same thing I'm thinking about.
uhhh, context?
no, fae is cool, totally separate user.

@Ho_Chi_Chungus@hexbear.net i stopped pretending to be cis. also RIP Biggs
the zionist entity's response to the heroic actions of the inmates of their concentration camp during the Al Aqsa Flood have sharpened awareness of settler-colonialism and imperialism, resulting in an uptick in the use of Maoist Standard English
I joined Hexbear two days before your last comment so that's something
Most everyone defederated. .ML are still the good guys. .world is basically just reddit now.
Lots of wreckers/libs
That's about it I think.
This is definitely not true. Melina has used many different usernames. I have a pretty good idea what their current username is.
That Melinda is out there! She can't be bargained with. She can't be reasoned with. She doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear! And she absolutely will not stop—ever—until you are !*
The name Melina was a reference to the character named Melina in Elden Ring by From Software, the same game studio produced Dark Souls. Melina once told me that they had other usernames in reference to Dark Souls as well.
Please go to my profile and review all comments and posts made since your last activity on the site. This will be your only warning
All the mods signed a joint letter declaring themselves liberal. Everyone (but me) supported it
People were disturbed by a downwards trend in non-news-thread effort posting so a public works project was enacted that resulted in the creation of c/badposting
Badposting exists, yet I still see bad posts outside of it. Curious.
An irony poisoned anti union comm was made by me and melina and approved by the admins, then we got accused of being crypto fascists trying to spread reactionary ideology and the comm got banned within the space of 16 hours after it was created
this is me when i heard the news that anti-union-aktion was kill:
Maybe if you tried being funny instead of just ironically posting fake anti Union news it to would have survived.
What was up with that I only ever paid attention to their posts in the megathreads and they seemed pretty chill
They had 7 pages of modlogs on them. Also on the post I talk about starting to go into AA for alcoholism, they did a "well acktually" on AA instead of showing any support.
You don't have to reply here, but a gentle check in from one recent non-drinker to another.
Not well friend. I'm still drinking less, it's not totally dictating my life, but this breakup has been rough. Been with her since I was 19 and I'm 23 now. I relapsed on Friday, but plan on going to a group with my sobriety coach on Monday so that'll be good
Don't beat yourself up, relapse is nothing to be ashamed about, just part of the process. Wishing you well, and proud of you! Hope Monday is beneficial
Feel free to hit me up if you ever need!
What corgs said, just keep committing willpower to putting down the bottle and you'll steadily go longer periods without drinking until you reach your goal. You've already come so far from where you were and put in so much effort, so don't even think for one minute that any stumbles are anything other than speedbumps on your journey towards sobriety.
Just remember anytime you get knocked on your ass it's always okay to take a minute to sit there and process things before getting back up and trooping on.
I appreciate it a lot. Sometimes it feels like I'm going to be stuck like this forever, but it's really helpful remembering that this doesn't have to be forever. I really appreciate the support
Same...not the first time a user whose posts I've enjoyed has gotten banned and probably won't be the last. I guess part of it is that I don't really post anything of substance so I'm unlikely to come into conflict with even the most combative posters, and I somehow manage to miss most of the struggle sessions even though I spend a good amount of time on Hexbear (not that I'd participate in them, but I don't even see them)
The first year or so of ChapoChat was leagues worse than this. We kinda had our own Great Purge for a while, and then the site culture stabilized.
I've actually been here since basically the beginning (besides the Discord lifeboat), so I do remember the struggle-sesh-a-day era. Glad we embraced TC69 thought and purged all the transphobes (among other things).
Also a few months ago he was removed from all his mod positions for sharing dox info about a user and then doubling down on it not being doxxing, so it was kinda a matter of time
fuck you get out of every comm i mod
fuck yeah go off leylawasn't love
i thought u were the mod that banned Pluto from all thier comms, my mistake
edit: wording was sloppy
I wish, I took down their posting in /c/drugs though because listening to people who haven't even smoked weed yet talk about what does and doesn't work for recovery is shitty. I only ban people in /c/traa for blatant shittiness.
well then i rescind any cool points i gave u earlier, i'm sorry but i'm sure you understand. you still have all your usual ones though so nbd.
pluto was a bigass dork, i was surprised he got modded rly quickly
Operation "get Pluto to read some fucking theory, literally any theory" was a failure.
What does that mean? I still talk to him on comments here and there.
