Plus Catholic Joe Biden knows he's gonna die soon so he figues he has a better shot of getting into heaven if he doesn't try to influence the Pope.

He also came out and said both presidential candidates fucking suck.

The catholic pendulum on hexbear once more swings towards "Pope's okay". Can't wait to see what news comes when it swings the other direction

Never forget that the pope is head of a worldwide child abuse ring with national sovereignty.

I am in my mid thirties and every pope within my lifetime has been the woke Pope and it has never been true, I'm not falling for this shit and neither should anybody else

I can only speak for myself, but I grew up evangelical and the worst bigots I knew hated Catholics for being mostly non-white and constantly implied that they were cryptopagans who worshipped saints.

Anti-Catholic (as opposed to general anti-religious, or even anti-Christian) sentiment will probably always trip my "This person might be a radical right wing prosperity gospelist" alarms.

Francis is like Socdem, but he doesn't have much longer to live, let's see who the next pope is. Colossal religious institutions like the Catholic Church, with its immense wealth and a strong conservative wing, should not be allowed a foothold in any Socialist country.

Well, that's not what the pope is saying when people ask him about it

Asked by CBS News what he would advise a Catholic voter forced to choose between a candidate who backs abortion rights and one who has said he would have 11 million migrants deported, the pope said: "They are both against life — the one who throws away migrants and the one who kills children."

Francis also reiterated the Catholic Church's position that abortion is murder.

"Whether you like the word or not, it is a killing," he said. "It is an assassination, and on this we should be clear."

It should be permanent "dude, fuck the pope" because regardless what he says, that does not have any consequence, he's just an empty baloon or a monkey with typewriter that just by the sheer accident says something not horrible once in a while.

    "TradCaths" are probably raging.

Hilarious how they either don't believe in or sometimes don't even know one of Catholicism's main tenants, Papal supremacy.

Technically that only applies to statements made ex cathedra, the pope can say whatever he wants on and Catholics can disagree with him, so long as he's not sitting on his special chair.

On one hand that sounds like hilarious cope, on the other hand it sounds exactly like the kind of arcane rules the Catholic Church would have.

ex cathedra literally means "out [from] the chair" but it's a figurative statement that just means "speaking as the holder of this position rather than as a private individual"

He's only God's handpicked representative on Earth when he's on his special chair, otherwise he's just a sparkling priest

Yeah, I think I might be transphobic too though.

I try to get trans all over me, but instead they're repelled!

Disclaimer: The prior joke uses the term "transphobia" in a manner similar to "hydrophobic," wherein it describes a physical property of molecules which are repelled by water. This use of the term is intentionally detached from its commonly understood definition related to negative attitudes or behaviors towards transgender individuals. The intention is to create a play on words by leveraging the concept of "transphobia" to humorously describe a scenario where I get no removed. I recognize the sensitivity of the term "transphobia" and assure you that the humor is not intended to offend or undermine important issues related to gender identity and discrimination.

Point is that the pope is probably more chill with how China handles the issue than how liberal democracies do. It's weird

Is Xi explicitly transphobic, or transphobic in more of a "Say nothing about trans people and do nothing to improve their rights" way?

I don't think he's personally said anything about trans people but China has been improving wrt trans rights and most of the things reported on as "anti-LGBTQ+ crackdowns" in China have been nonsense.
