Mine is loving dumb pop-culture shit.

MCU specifically, I LOVE that shit, LOVE it.

Every lefty on my TL is making fun of those movies and labeling people who enjoy them as mindless consumers or whatever, while I'm like "FUCK YEAH THREE INCARNATIONS OF SPIDER-MAN & DAREDEVIL ARE IN THE NEXT SPIDER-MAN MOVIE WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO."

Like, I know it's dumb, but it really brings me that immense childish joy that I get nowhere else.

Anyone else? Or do you have some other dumb shit you love?

    Grand strategy games probably

There's some horrific implications to all of that shit even if it's usually portrayed cartoonishly

I have exterminated my ancestors in EU3 because I didn't think about what 'attack natives' really meant and it only occurred to me recently

This is the true danger of weed

One of my first proud moments in EU3 actually

You can play as a peasant commune of Dithmarschen in EU4; theyre literally communists. I like to colonize (I know, but at least I put the Native policy to coexistence so no native killings) modern US as them and establish a egalitarian peasant society

Don't get me wrong, I love media critique. The lib shit is when people act like consuming media with problematic elements is inherently immoral. If ethical consumption exists, then let's hand-wring about things that actually materially matter, like the conflict minerals in the devices we're all using to browse this site. Anyone who thinks I'm a bad person for liking The X-Files but not for buying a smartphone from Samsung is a lib.

(to be clear, I'm not advocating for hand-wringing over phones either. we need revolutions in the countries where they extract these minerals, not better consumer choices.)

At least you can pirate media for the most part, so you don’t actively contribute to its reactionary parts or whatever.

I'm gonna invent a new type of leftist take that's something like "actually the most leftist praxis you can do is purposefully watch reactionary media"

Buying less than you otherwise would have because a brand is not ethical is still good. Letting them know you would have bought more if they put more effort into the working conditions of the people that grow and sow the clothes is better

      I too have this weakness

      Enjoying art is human.

Being a "collector" who buys as an investment or for tax write-off purposes, or just owns stuff to show off how much $$ they have is bourgeois.

There's nothing wrong with liking the MCU. They're fun movies with a big, satisfying story arc executed on a large scale. And to everyone else in this thread: don't be ashamed of the things you like unless they're straight up reactionary. It's fine. It's all fine to like.

        except for this one

"We couldn't reconcile the unreality of this international organization and our place in it," Phil Strub, the Defense Department's Hollywood liaison, tells Danger Room. "To whom did S.H.I.E.L.D. answer? Did we work for S.H.I.E.L.D.? We hit that roadblock and decided we couldn't do anything" with the film.

I can't find the tweet, but someone discussed that while Captain Marvel was aesthetically pro US military (and it definitely was funded by the airforce🤮) , its plot details were about a soldier breaking programming, deserting her imperialist army and siding with the enemy- who was represented in the propaganda as terrifying infiltrators who could be anyone and hide anywhere, who turn out to mostly be refugees.

    Other leftists.

i like anime, but i dont make excuses for it. I just really like that fans would create and publish their own takes on existing works, even it's just porn in the end. Some made comics, some even make their own animations that eventually land them jobs. BUT MY GOD ARE THERE PARTS ABOUT IT THAT MAKE IT DIFFICULT TO TALK ABOUT!! :( Doesn't help that anime fans have become so reactionary over the years, part of that i blame by not having much presence from the left, for some obvious reasons :(

Also punk music. Something about it seems to be wrapped in the failures of the left from 70's on. Listening to Against Me! again for the first time in a while, i recognized the melancholy in LJG's voice on Crimes EP as that helplessness in leftism around the 00's. Like we were already dead, and we were just waiting for things to end. that stench of death is still on us.

i speak super generally when i say punk, so i'll say bands like Against Me!, Thursday, Off Minor, Converge, Against All Authority, Rye Coalition, Kid Crash, Dead Kennedys, I Robot, Orchid, Nine Eleven, Melt-Banana, On The Might of Princes, Moss Icon, Ostraca, Senza, The Blood Brothers, The Locust etc. A lot of these are hardcore, screamo, and emo bands, jsyk.

For Blood and Empire - Anti-Flag

The Body, the Blood, the Machine - The Thermals

I really like these albums. They do a good job of capturing the "idk what's going on, but war and evangicals suck" vibe of the mid-00's.

Deviated Instinct - Terminal Filth Stenchcore (hence username)

        Plutocracy - Snipin Pigs

Chumbawamba - Pictures of Starving Children Sell Records

        Skaven/Dystopia split

        The Cure - Seventeen Seconds

        Crass - Penis Envy

        The Endless Blockade - Primitive

        Discharge - Why?

I used to want a truck, badly. Hell, I even convinced myself that I needed a truck - ya know, for that one time a year I move a couch or buy some mulch.

Now? I know I don't need one, at all. But what's really interesting is that I can't even bring myself to want one. In fact, I loathe the idea of wanting a truck. All I can think about is the chuds driving around in blacked out window death machines with punisher stickers and truck nuts on the back. And I think about the cost of owning such a display of American pseudo-bougie decadence; the gas, the tires, the insurance. And to top it off, the price for these things is just fucking insane. Makes me sick just looking at the price.

Keep in mind, the truck I used to want was like a $40k toyota tundra, full size, 4 doors, backup camera, bluetooth, etc.

I could make due with an S10 or something, but I'm still throwing a mental tantrum about not getting my bougie truck so I've convinced myself to not a get a truck at all.

Damn that's a load off, thanks comrade.

It's not really something I have or do but just a thought. I do like playing the lottery and thinking about being wealthy in that context. I don't think people should be able to amass much more than a few million but goddamn would I enjoy suddenly having $100M+ I sincerely would try to funnel it towards some political cause. But I think I would also be a filthy bouge at least for a little while. Just the sudden and immense release from material concerns would be intoxicating. I can really see why rich people don't want to give that shit up.

What baffles me is people who have millions and still want more. If I had millions I would live the same middle class life I have now, just with the relief of not having to work.
