I work with some Russians, so I'm getting a lot about it. They're listening exclusively to Russian media because "The American media has no historical context and act like babies". Surprisingly sober takes from them though, all very anti-war and mad at Putin while also understanding why this happened.

One of them was in the young pioneers growing up, said his mom moved to the west because the advertisements made it look great. He's definitely got a more materialist way of looking at things than 90% of people I know even if he hides it under weird mysticism stuff.

Like he talks about auras and conditions enforced by the aura of the collective or something. Really weird to basically hear marxism be completely rebuilt as a spiritual faith instead of a science. Then again, the collapse of the USSR and its consequences

I’m gonna create a model for explaining the material/super structural relationship that describes culture as the “aura” of material conditions. Like how a magnet throws off magnetic waves

What liberation theology did for catholicism, your friend will do for suburban crystal moms. Thus we have no choice but to stan!

I just read some article that said something like "And then after the dissolution of the USSR Stalin gave this territory away" and my brain did the record scratch thing.

Lots of high quality media out there right now.

I was presently surprised by my closest colleagues at uni who turn out to be massively annoyed at the propaganda campaign and at all the hypocrisy. A few of them felt unsure what the correct “left” take should be (don’t know what they meant by “left”). I was too tired and too junior (and also too confused) to share my view, but I told them the best thing to do is to focus their ire on NATO/US and not to fantasize about being “correct” in such a grave situation.

Satellite photos show Russian convoy outside Kyiv appears to have dispersed to surrounding areas.

most people are just changing profile pictures to the ukraine flag or a filter. most people arent saying anything else although im sure most analysis ends at PUTIN BAD. Cause going back further puts the blame on the USA.

Surely you have at least a few Ukrainian SS descendents? I thought they were sort of spread across Canada in a thin, even layer after the war.

Just the boomers, in my case. The type who grew up during "duck and cover".

I've found that to be the case as well. Also people who are on social media a lot and people with a higher income that have more free time to care about this.

Not many, aside from us war nerds, and people I know who have family that is being deployed (likely defensively, I am praying defensively).
