I, John Brown, am now quite certain that the crimes of this guilty land will never be purged away, but with blood.

Whenever people begin their Trump Derangement meltdown I always remind them of this.

Or, as Bernie himself has said, to expand voting to a full weekend or as a national holiday in which everyone has off.

      “But, but….”

It’s so obvious the ruling class want none of this. They need it just as it is, to keep the private grift going with just the right amount of public squabbling.

Was there ever a thorough assessment of what happened in the primaries?

From what I can remember, in the first few states, when Bernie's staff was allowed to monitor everything, he absolutely crushed it (ignoring the Pete/Shadow Inc. rat fucking) and then as soon as they reached states where their team could not see the whole thing Biden started winning by absolutely insane margins (at least for a guy who lost a tooth and whose eye exploded on national television).

But I guess the complete opacity of the process is the point. We'll never know if people truly went for safe ol' rambly pull-my-leg-hair Joe or if he had a little help from the DNC (y'know, apart from Pete and Stapler-throwing-lady dropping overnight while Elizabeth Warren stayed in the race).

Bernie should have stayed on topic and stopped calling Biden his friend and saying he was a good man and would be a good president.

Sanders was a fucking idiot and threw the primary. He was probably gonna lose anyway once the centrist blob blobbed up but he should have gone out swinging, especially because we see now he would have been proven right and it would have helped solidify a counter-narrative.

I ask this. Do you think Trump would have won his primaries if he had said "my good friend Jeb Bush, he'd be a good President but I'd be better"? He won because he smacked the shit of loser neocons and called them out for the huge fuck ups they are.

I'm not sure there was ever some super fancy rigging or anything, beside maybe in Iowa. All it took to beat Bernie was Obama coordinating the most popular centric candidates to all drop out while leaving Warren in to take votes. Also, the media's relentless pushing of electability and white Bernie Bro narratives turned just enough liberals off.

Aw damn, I see what you mean. I actually first saw the actual site linked in a post on here when it still worked/hosted the content about the DNC rigging the primary.

Another facet of this we will never be able to quantify is how much the media getting all on the same page of who to back affected things. They all decided to push Biden as the electible one after all picking their own favorites.

it was said in another comment, but young people came out at high levels to support bernie while old people got very scared by the young people and came out in record breaking levels.

Isn’t this the exact same argument trump people made “proving” that the 2020 election was faked? Pointing at rally crowd sizes as proof?

I think the problem for the Trump people was the fact trump's crowd weren't all that big looking at just photos, so trumpets made up conspiracies about it

Bernie's crowds were just genuinely gigantic

I don't remember that tbh, just infinite screaming about mail-in ballots. I do remember them pointing at crowd sizes in 2016 to anyone confused how Hillary lost.

That the media and the party leadership conspired to manipulate public opinion and the conditions for voting in a way to prevent Bernie from winning. It's more about everyone in authority uniting to stack the deck before the election instead of outright stealing it.

Except in Iowa. That shit was sus

Do you not think the enthusiasm for Trump was bigger than the enthusiasm for Biden though?

Like, elections aren't won through vibes, but he genuinely energised people in the same way that someone like Obama did.

Do you not think the enthusiasm for Trump was bigger than the enthusiasm for Biden though?

Sure. But enthusiasm doesn't equal votes. Trump significantly increased his turnout between '16 and '20, but a lot of it just went into states he'd already won four years earlier or states he was hopelessly behind on. Florida went from swing-state to landslide. He added over a million votes in Texas. He added an extra 300k in Ohio. He added 1.5M votes in California and 400k more votes in NY.

He also lost the two critical historically hard-red states of Arizona and Georgia (not something you can really blame the Democrats for) and despite adding over 400k in Pennsylvania it still slipped through his fingers by about the same margin he won it against Hillary.

I think the enthusiasm around Trump was double-edged. He provoked historic turnout by raw numbers nationally. And this backfired in a bunch of states that had historically kept control by tamping that turnout down.

In the same way Obama '08 gave Dems a landslide victory by raising turnout across the board (and lost it all again in '10 with a historic turnout sag), Trump fucked the GOP by causing entirely too much enthusiasm.

At the conclusion of this amazing event (remember it was Bernie’s first back from his heart attack, for which AOC visited him in the hospital) I was walking across the street to my bicycle. See Michael Brooks but at first it doesn’t registers, just a sort of familiarity. He smiles and starts moving in my direction for a moment. But I’ve got the kid with me and the crowd is pulsating, so I just give him the thumbs up and call out for him to keep doing what’s he’s doing. Kind of wished I had stopped. Miss him lots.

Yeah, the crowd size of Bernie’s rallies in both 2016 and ‘20 are irrefutable evidence of his clear dominance over all candidates. I mean, no Dem since Obama had that kind of gravitas and clout. Only Drumpf had it also. And those candidates win. They don’t lose.

Trying to convince the goons on r/politics of this is such a chore when they’re so fucking delusional about it. When this shit comes up I like to contrast the day that Bernie spoke in the S Bronx (which I was also at) Her was at a small college upstate speaking at an auditorium to 500 people (mostly rich Neoliberal alum), 50 of whom were students who stood up in a coordinated protest and said, “if she wins we lose” - and walked out. It’s like politics 101 that the candidate who can consistently draw these kinds of crowds means he/she energizes (electrifies) the voting electorate. To say nothing of the record-breaking amount of small donations, thereby circumventing the bribery of corporate “donations” that is the crux of American governance, or the fact that for years running he was by far the most popular Congressmen.

Taibbi was just taking about this in an interview just recently. How there was really what could only be described as unspoken collusion between the press who knew she was having a problem turning out people to not report it. But it was considerable news that your average MSM-watching bourgeois Neoliberal didn’t want to know about. It was a certain bellwether of what would happen.

just wanted to throw out there that young people turned out to vote for bernie in the primaries in the highest numbers on record (for those who say young people sat it out). however, olds showed up in even higher numbers than usual and diluted the dem base to make youth turnout look lower than usual by percentage
