On this day in 2012, 100k-200k protesters took to the streets in Athens, Greece, as workers carried out a 24-hour general strike to protest against the policy of austerity. At the time, unemployment was ~25% and minimum wage cut by 22%.
At the time, the conservative coalition in government was calling for a $15 billion cut to pensions and salaries. Official unemployment in the country was around 25% and the minimum wage had been cut by 22% that year. Those Greeks still working would labor six days a week under the new plan.
When some protesters hurled molotov cocktails at the finance ministry and parliament, police responded with tear gas. The strike was called by the country's two biggest unions, which together represented half of the workforce. The general strike was just one of several that had taken place in Greece since 2010.

I don't even know what it is, so I'm good with this :blob-no-thoughts:
Watched A Field in England tonight, would give that one a 7.5, higher if the treasure plotline didn't resolve with a cliche. Watching the original REC now. Hope you're all well!
I hope the examples set by Vietnam and Cuba in LGBT and gender issues inspires CPC members to drive back the socially conservative elements in their party.
The new constitution of Venezuela also grants rights to lgbtq+ people, most of PSUV and even Maduro supports it. :chavez-salute:
Too bad it was postponed after some idiot tried to coup the goverment.

Is the vote today finalized and the bill passed?
preliminary results will be announced today (monday) with final vote counts released in 5 days
Top ten worst work night ever. There was a hurricane Friday night, we were closed yesterday but most of the city still doesn't have power. The building we're in has a generator and it's a gas oven, so we were pretty much the only place in town. One cook was sick with covid and one recently got illegally canned (the chef also has been lying to us saying he quit). So we were 3 cooks and no dish washer. Another cook who is my favorite did come by to sort of save the day at 5, but she wasn't scheduled and didn't have to. With just 3 of us it literally wouldn't have been possible andnibwould have walked out, with 4 we all had to work way harder than anyone should for literally 7 straight hours with no time for breaks at all. Kitchens, just say no folks.
Adhd fucking sucks. Another bunch of deadlines, another bunch of unfinished work.
I’m trying to stay positive - I’m so surprised with how much I’ve accomplished so far and this is only my first full semester back and my first semester diagnosed. Can’t help but feel totally crushed though.
If you were waiting for a sign to drink some water, this is it 💦
Work moves a lot faster and you look a lot busier when you're running to the bathroom every 30 minutes
Got drunk and cried with a friend about how we should spend more time together which I think is a productive weekend activity if I've ever seen one
What if Disco Elysium is just Don Quixote for zoomers :thinking-about-it:
Don Quixote: a noble who deludes himself into thinking he's a knight goes on wacky adventures and makes an ass of himself with his straight-talking "squire" who's actually just his neighbor. His commitment to the bit unmasks issues with the surrounding society or his own values depending on interpretation.
Disco Elysium: a detective with mental health issues and amnesia goes on wacky adventures and makes an ass of himself with his straight-talking sidekick. His commitment to the case unmasks issues with the surrounding society and his own values.
Intoxicated internal thoughts that I share with you all because it’s one step above not saying it:
I think my ideal gender expression is “AFAB non-binary person.” I often feel like NB is seen as “woman with extra steps” if you’re AFAB, vs “Man” if you’re AMAB. And while “woman with extra steps” is deeply problematic in many ways, I kinda like “woman with extra steps” for myself personally
Unfortunately as an AMAB person to get anything even slightly close to that would require so much dedication and cost that it’s just not worth it and I’m just gonna try to stick by “man-ish” :stalin-bummed:
"Putin grants Russian citizenship to U.S. whistleblower Edward Snowden"
:yes-honey-left:
I haven't even read comments about it yet. I just preemptively know how they're going to make me feel.
Death to America.
Lotta scratched liberals calling for Snowden and Putler's heads I imagine.
scratched liberals
Added to my list of leftist dogwhistles, thanks! 😁
But yeah, it's exactly that.
Snowden is a traitor for going against the state...
Snowden was a FSB spy all along trying to destroy our democracy...
Russia is evil for acknowledging the evil the US has done...
Russia is the real surveillance state (not whataboutism apparently)...
Snowden chose to exile to Russia, it was his plan all along...
And finally some seething about Assange.I cannot stress this enough again, Death to America.
Its funny how they always phrase it as if its Putin himself from on high doing this, as if all of Russia's government is just Putin
I mean it very well could be but every headline is this way
I keep telling people close to me, "it's probably a very good idea to stock up on essentials and shelf stable dry food stores" and they keep looking at me like I have 3 heads. Most people here can't fathom going to the grocery store and not buying exactly what they want. It's disheartening, but some people just have to learn the hard way I guess.
Not personally a car guy, but I really wish cars would change from that shape they have now and in particular go back to using analog buttons.
apparently touch screens are cheaper than analog buttons so everything is going over to touch screens. Touch screens are, of course, objectively the worst input device yet devised.
