there's a lot of random funny hexbear lore out there, like rock stacking, but that's not what I'm asking about. I'm more asking about the really huge stuff, like the transphobe purging or the r/vcj onboarding that apparently almost ended the site. has anyone done any good writeups on those? really hoping for one about the r/vcj onboarding but I'll take any i can get my hands on

When we had downvotes and users got banned for downvoting trans comrades was funny.

Some guy on here his boss Dave found the site and we all clowned on Dave for the day.

It was always weird to me how people took classic BMF posting. Maybe I'm just too situationism-pilled, but I largely found myself understanding/agreeing with the points they were hitting. Very distinctive rhetorical style, but not at all the incoherent foaming implied in most off handed mentions of their corpus.

Yeah part of the magic is they weren't nonsense, they just required knowledge of both theory and internet memes to (sort of) understand. And deliberately leaned into obscure references and figures of speech.

But if translated into common language most of them wouldn't look out of place in leftist discourse, if maybe a bit extreme sometimes.

Yeah. I felt like BMF was esoteric and hard to parse but could after a re read (or ten, am adult baebee). I think there was like two or three that I didn't want to be bothered with and or had no frame of reference and couldn't understand

I think it all happened some months before you created your account back in 2021 lol. The guy wanted to debate some Hexbear user on twitch but then we all went there and begun spamming him with "Can't Corner the Dorner" memes since this guy was like very anti-change and hated BLM.

There are still some posts here. She got really pissed at an user named Comradebongwater for whatever reason, and wanted to sue him. Even though pretty sure they were American and were protected by free speech lol. She deleted all the tweets about it.

        CW: Suicide and Guns

People sent her a bunch of "Lol, Die Terf" memes from that Anime girl that is from that zombie anime. AKA stfu-terf and Grover from sesame street killing himself which got her really anger.

Then someone made a bit account pretending to be her here, at that time Hexbear dot net still was Chapochat and we used to hang around Cytube to watch Godzilla movies at 2:00 AM, and this bit account was like very cartoony and evil. Pretty funny tbh.

What was the main reasoning of the Chapo vs hexbear naming debacle? To get away from the pod or to not meme el Chapo and glorify drugs? I was lurking then but more focused on the funnis than paying attention to drama...

To get away from the pod

Pretty sure it was this one. I will never forget that one user said we should have renamed the website to Lib dot Rehab. I think at the time most people kinda tired of the podcast and the people that didn't even knew there was a podcast were confused by the website name.

Once a youtuber came here, I think it was internet etiquette guy (Internet Comment Etiquette with Erik, I believe) and he basically joked saying that we were trying to sell him cypto.

will have to write about what I can when I get home, so watch this space, I’ll prob write it in a different reply, not under this

VCJ doesn’t get brought up because it effectively ended in a stalemate and there’s a sort of gentleman’s agreement not to agitate the wound after the fallout caused a group of sitemods (including me, initially, partly because I was overwhelmed and in high school at the time) to quit or temp-quit the site.

Its also strange. I'm 26 now and cannot imagine even being close friends with a 19 year old. We'd have nothing in common. I don't wanna talk about moistcritical or whatever streamer garbage drama is happening. I just don't care.

The focus on age of consent in the comments is also weird. My area has a 16 age of consent but few people would argue it'd be normal to fuck a high schooler.

i've read this post before, another top tier one but like see liberal socialist is someone who needs a full writeup done on them, from what i can tell they were the main antagonist of the site for nearly half a year before they got banned

I never minded liberalsocialist but yeah for some reason there was a lot of antagonism towards them. I think probably because they'd constantly enter threads and just not know what they were talking about, and because they explicitly identified as a "liberal." A lot of people also thought the whole account was a bit.

i really hope someone does it was the whole reason I made this post and out of all the super major events on the site I feel like i know the least about it, all i know is somehow the vegan comm went from dooming saying that the mods were all out to destroy them and the site and then somehow ??? vegans make it onto the admin team (i think to the point where they were the majority?) leading to the status quo today

There was an informal rule for a long time that mods would remove the comments and possibly ban (if you kept doing it) any comments relitigating it. And any comments about what happened tended to cause relitigation

yes I've read that post, that's what I'm referring to with the dooming, I assumed this was in the middle of the worst of it, but from my perspective it seems like most of the site's vegans ended up feeling like the site was in a better spot? or was this a post mortem on everything that went down? at least that's been my impression, i constantly see pro vegan comments and you have to cw pics of animal products and what not so if it was after everything went down I'm not sure what the poster meant by "The draconian measures against talk of veganism never went away."

This was a post-mortem, from someone who had originally left the site during the struggle session, so it's a weird thread in that the post is from someone with still-raw wounds and the comments are from people who had experienced the evolution of the site since that time.

ahhh i see that explains it although there is an interaction between a former admin and a couple vegans where they're still talking like you cant talk about veganism on the rest of the site

I definitely couldn't do a neutral write up but I can drop a few points that I think are often overlooked. I've been on hexbear since before the vegan comm existed (on other accounts) so while I haven't always been the most active, I've seen the whole history.

One key point is that hexbear vegans weren't content before VCJ joined. We already had the sense that hexbear was anti-vegan but we were quieter about it. Example (EDIT: fixed link).

There was already a strong cultural overlap between c/vegan and r/vegancirclejerk before the lifeboating. For example, dog diet crossed over here, and was to my memory the precursor to the VCJ hostilities. (c/dogdiet comm request, negative reaction to dogdiet posting).

But I just noticed who I'm replying to so idk why I'm even bothering.

BMF: He is everything I want to be when I grow up (nonsectarian tho)

After their death, attempts are made to convert them into harmless icons, to canonize them, so to say, and to hallow their names to a certain extent for the “consolation” of the oppressed classes and with the object of duping the latter, while at the same time robbing the revolutionary theory of its substance, blunting its revolutionary edge and vulgarizing it.

(I am kind of joking, but I do feel like the sectarianism was kind of inherent to bmf-posting)
